I tried this one and it worked out great. It's easy to make and it means you can leave the salt out. It also states it can be formed into hot dog or hamburger buns or dinner rolls. One loaf is all I need. I have been looking for a non bread machine recipe like this one for a long time. Tip. I package of yeast is 2 1/4 tsp for those who have the yeast in a small jar. I use the instant fast rising yeast. The water should be heated to 110 deg F. This is important. http://www.food.com/recipe/one-loaf-white-bread-34620 |

3 cups bread flour? $.35??? I doubt that I can get the YEAST for $.35. Parchment? Maybe if I use loose leaf paper instead. laugh123 (Or the TIMES) Make this loaf for $.35 and I'll nominate you for a Nobel in Economics. Edited by Trotsky, Oct 26 2014, 03:02 AM.

But those loaves look so pretty that IF I can find some reasonably priced "bread flour" I'll give it a try. If I can get anything that looks like these, I'm all in. https://www.google.ca/search?q=no+knead+bread+pictures&authuser=0&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=4MFLVIzSCqrksATU24CwDQ&ved=0CBwQsAQ&biw=1536&bih=788 What is BREAD FLOUR? I know from AP (all-purpose) flour, and cake flour that is lower in gluten? Are bread flour and AP flour synonymous? Edited by Trotsky, Oct 26 2014, 04:31 AM.

No, but I don't remember why. Got a bulk food store near you? |

I use all purpose flour in Canada, but think it is harder (higher in protein) than us all purpose. You may want to find bread flour. We buy 20 kilos of flour at Costco for about 15 bucks. The no knead bread requires an eighth of a teaspoon of yeast, which we buy for bupkis at a bulk food store. Salt is practically free and water is. Edited by heatseeker, Oct 26 2014, 10:30 AM.

Here's a picture of the one loaf white bread. The texture is really nice and toasts beautifully. I added one egg to the recipe. My sister who is a great baker told me that it gives the bread a nicer texture. |
