Brown Rice

I had a good friend tell me today that he was watching Dr. Oz and heard the following information.

Apparently brown rice that comes from Louisiana, Alabama and Texas has arsenic in it. The rice from California is OK and does not.

Neither does the brown rice from India or Pakistan.

The problem in Canada is that we are not privileged to know what state our rice comes from, after checking four bags it says "Product of the USA" So in order to avoid the rice from those three states in favour of California we cannot do this and have to buy outside of the US. Bummer.

I always buy my rice from the Indian store in Montreal as it just always tasted better as do their spices etc. Many people shop there and there is a high turnover of stock.

As I recall rice pablum was loved by our girls when they were little, and neither have or ever had any allergies. Hey .... I liked it too.

Take care,
Pat

Here's a good LONG look at some of Oz's nonsensical claims:

This is exactly what is wrong with our whole outlook at the world. People want to believe everything they hear or read especially if it has to do with how they were raised. As I understand Dr. Oz he gives you a look at every new idea and protest about that idea. He has said often on the show that he is only showing one what is the going discussion. It is up to me to decide for myself what is good for me in my own experience but sadly too many people want a quick fix.

Religion is the same, there is someone up there in a white gown who will solve all my problems. That is how fundamentalist churches operate. I think come on people think for yourselves. Putting Oz down because of some of the things he presents only show how little we can think for ourselves.

I enjoy his show very much but I do not buy into everything that is presented. He is a good showman and when we look at that with sense and thinking for ourselves we will realize that.

On City TV this morning Marilyn Smith was presenting how good parsnips are for you and host Kevin told they that most of those vegetables taste like soil to him and he can't eat it. Deena tried to change his mind but Marilyn backed him up saying that some people have a gene or whatever in their system that makes reject these vegetables.

It is the same with the discussion about gluten. My sister in law gets right angry with me for not eating these things and the fact that they make me physically sick does not even register for her.

I am sick of people trying to put everyone into the same box, we are all different box. Why do we need to be so stuck in our ways. My parents always voted for such and such a party and so no matter what they do in that party they are right.'

I have never bought into the fact of any religion or political party being right.

However it does make for good discussion on here.

That makes me remember the story about one MIL who put her SIL into hospital because she didn't believe in his allergy to nuts and fed him something containing the life threatening item.

Yes Dana the old saying my parents or grandparents ate it so its good for you still holds with a lot of people. We are not all alike and there has been a lot of bad changes to our foods that is being denied.
