Since I am without a stove currently, I pondered what to make for dinner and stumbled upon this recipe which I enjoyed and will make again. Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken Recipe: (Makes 6 servings) Prep time: 5 mins Cook time: 8 hours Total time: 8 hours 5 mins Serves: 6 I love slow cooker recipes that I can just throw everything in in the morning, and let the slow cooker do the work! This chicken is moist and flavorful. Both my picky eaters devoured it and I am sure your family will too! Ingredients 4-6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (mine were frozen) 1 cup light brown sugar ½ cup honey ⅔ cup white distilled vinegar ¼ cup Sprite or lemon lime soda 3 Tablespoons minced garlic 3 Tablespoons soy sauce 1 teaspoon black pepper 2 Tablespoons corn starch Instructions Place chicken breasts in slow cooker. Combine all other ingredients, except corn starch, in a bowl and pour over chicken. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Remove chicken from slow cooker and shred in another bowl. Whisk corn starch in liquid in the slow cooker. Add shredded chicken back to the crock pot. Serve over rice. If desired, garnish with sesame seeds. http://www.yummly.com/recipe/external/Slow-Cooker-Honey-Garlic-Chicken-677165 For all the other recipes, go to https://www.yummly.com/recipes Looks like lots of good recipes. Take care, Pat |

Looks good. I am into slow cooker recipes now. Pork neck bones tonite. My friend loves them. This is the first time I tried them.. Really tender. But I only have a smaller unit. Have you ever tried Osso Bucco? That's a veal shank with the bone in. Really tender as well and a very inexpensive cut. Served with llinguine. |

I keep stumbling upon skinless, boneless chicken slow cook recipes but then I forget to do anything about it.] Sounds good, Golden Gal with one exception: I would need a substitute for
No way I would waste a 2 Liter bottle of soda for 2 ounces. How about a couple squirts of lime juice (from a lime. :45_yes.gif: )
In days of old perhaps, but not inexpensive any more. There were many many cuts I used to buy because I prided myself on being the only person in my state to recognize the wonders of some of these cuts like Breast of Veal, Veal Shanks, Lamb Shanks, Beef Shins, Oxtail and Tripe, even Lamb and Veal Kidneys. Now everyone wants them and the prices went sky high. Edited by Trotsky, Dec 10 2014, 02:11 AM.

Have to fess up Trotsky that I did not have Sprite so used Ginger Ale which I buy in the tins. It tasted fine to me, but might have had a considerably different taste with the Sprite. Take care, Pat |

O.K. I bought a veal shank. It was 2.65. Enough for one meal for one guy. That's what I mean by inexpensive. |

I would snap them up in a second at $2.65 but I cannot get anything near even DOUBLE that price. (But I will look harder.) How much per pound? Edited by Trotsky, Dec 10 2014, 02:59 AM.

$8 here for a shank of lamb. Mostly bone. Ridiculous. |

Lamb is an import mostly. Trotsky I will get the price. Pork neck bones in the slow cooker and then added to a bean soup are also a good option. |

For pork I don't need neck bones. Regularly I can buy a boneless lean pork loin for $1.99 a pound and a bony shoulder (fatty but delicious) for half that. It's the beef and lamb prices that are killing me and I am sick of chicken. (We won't even TALK about fish.) Gee, Osso Buco by mail: http://www.eataly.com/meat-shop-by-cut-osso-bucco/veal-osso-buco/?utm_source=google_shopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Sh_Generic&utm_term=&utm_content=e-9a73cb35-1e41-4747-a891-0a91313e12c8 Here's Amazon:
So that's about $9 for a single slice serving. Not too generous if you consider it's 6-8 ounces which includes a big bone. Here's a complainer from San Diego:
I will check out Key Food in my building. Probably my cheapest choice if they have it. (I lapsed my Costco membership and ALDI's is too far for me with bronchitis and bad weather.) Checked the website of the cheapest market I know, Shop-Rite back in New Jersey, and they want $12.99 for a beautiful 1 pound veal shank. Posted Image That picture makes me hungry and it looks enough to serve the two of us. Edited by Trotsky, Dec 11 2014, 03:25 AM.

I don't look at the price per pound. I just look at the cut. If it's enough and fits the budget I buy it I think what I am getting is off cuts. Small portions way at the end of the meat display. This is Metro in Canada formerly a U.S. grocery. I think it was A & P. |

GG, sounds great, I am going to take out some chicken right now as I think I am doing the cooking tonight. A bit late, but we tend to eat a bit later these days. My slow cooker has two pots, did have 3 until we moved and one snapped in half. (It was my mother's - she loved making meals in te slow cooker as it meant she could freeze enough for weeks to come or invite us for lunch without worrying about 'slaving over the oven'. She was a fabulous cook but understood the joy of shortcuts. |

I used to make veal stew for my mother (a life long weight watcher). Had to get it at an Italian butcher and it was pricey for stew meat. I do not find veal cheap anywhere and no longer use it as I now pass those horrid little cages where veal calves are held on Mennonite farms. |

KEY FOOD was a bust...not a piece of veal in the store and a butcher "as dumb as soup." I think I had veal twice this year, as a Veal Goulash in a Ukrainian restaurant, and as Veal Milanese in an Italian restaurant. Checked A&P for 1 pound veal shank: $14.99 http://ap.grocerydirect.com/pd/Meat/Veal-Shank/1-lb/202788000009/ campy, I think they sold you a HOOF! Edited by Trotsky, Dec 13 2014, 02:27 AM.
