I've got seed from the Butchart Gardens of the Blue Poppy (Meconopsis Baileyi). I understand that these are a bit tricky to grow ... any tips greatly appreciated.
I've got some of the red ANZAC poppies flowering at the moment and they're quite spectacular ...

I got some seed from Begete and never got the seeds to germinate. I have tried commercial packaged seeds several times over the years without success.

Well I'm persona non grata with her these days so I can't ask her if she had success with them :nooo.gif:
I was reading they require to be germinated in semi darkness at a temp of around 17°C and to be watered from the bottom. So I thought I'd make this a trial for our winter, or early spring, growing when the temperature can be round that. Semi darkness could be a bit of a problem, but I thought maybe a couple of layers of frost cloth and place under the trees may just be enough.

I've only tried once and was not successful, but I had a friend who somehow managed to grow them. I've lost touch with her so I don't know if they continued to grow.

I once got seeds (not poppy) from Butchart and later did contact them and ask for instructions on germinating. They nicely sent me a whole sheet of instructions. It worked so I would suggest either writing or emailing them - who knows they may still do this.
