You don't know what you've missed until you've seen the North Island's East Coast beaches, Gisborne through to Te Kaha. (Plus NZ's xmas tree the Pohutakawa.) |

I consider Piha one of the most beautiful beaches ever. But that said, beach access by all in NZ is to be envied. One is never very far from a beach in NZ. Camping on the honor system for paying was often encountered. The joyful aspect of freedom was most attractive to me. |

Haumoana through to Napier around Hawke Bay are IMHO great beaches for surf casting (fishing on a long line from the beach), but a bit too dangerous for swimming. Gisborne's beaches, Wainui, Midway and Kaiti are great for surf and swimming. |

"So many beaches, so little time!" We were in Tarunga/Mt Manganui for 2 months and saw only 1 beach on the list.
Walked to the top twice/week while Ray golfed - the view was more than spectacular. Doubt if I can do this easy walk now. Edited by erka, Jan 1 2017, 02:52 PM.

Given the increasing rate of skin aging I am seeing, beaches have been stricken from my Websters. To me the word "beach" has become synonymous only with "regret." |

Have to admit to being a beachbunny but N.Z. is a bit far to try out.. :)- Spent the afternoon at a local beach but sadly we will not be going back for a while. Vandals stole the taps/fittings in the washrooms and smashed the toilets. Don't know how long it will take to fix them but they have the Johnny on the jobs there which I hate... |
