I'm a well-seasoned armchair traveler (!!!) and would love to share some of my favorite videos from Youtube and Vimeo. If you've been to any of these places, please share your experiences and perceptions and even if you haven't been, share your thoughts anyway!

We'll start our travels in Moscow:

I would love to visit Russia. Too bad I did not take advantage of some of the lessons my parents had in university. I remember coming home for a holiday to discover sticky notes on everything! The only word I recalled for several years was 'candle', completely gone now.
It would have pretty neat to have shown my father China and help him with the language barrier (his reading of characters was eventually better than mine) then he could have taken me to Russia and dealt with the language. (Although once again I believe his reading/writing was strongest - he did have a hearing aid). Sadly, he never made it to either country.
On my to visit list, besides a year travelling in China without having to stop to work this time, are Italy, Russia, several countries bordering on all three; South Ameirca, New York again, and more of Canada - norther regions.

That sounds like a viable wish list, blizzard and a year in China would definitely have you well acquainted with the language, both spoken and written. Supposedly there are so many dialects in China that it adds to the difficulty in learning the language. That's true somewhat with all languages to a point though!

Here's a time lapse of the Alpine night sky ... so beautiful!

The Alps at Night - Timelapse - Vimeo

I'm unable to figure out how to embed a Vimeo video like I did the YouTube one in the first post so I'm just adding the link. Is there a way to embed Vimeo videos?

Whimsy, Mandarin is the official language in China so I wouldw most likely get by. However, adventuring out beyond major cities is my goal. Did not see as mush as I would have wanted.

Whimsy, can I ask why you are an inveterate armchair traveller?
Our philosophy is 'Do it while you can ... you're a long time dead!'

With Vimeo it is probably best to copy the URL and post it as a link ... that enables you to view the screen enlarged.
