http://www.durgan.org/URL/?IWJZB 21 February 2015 Peas I bought bag of frozen peas and cannot find here the peas were harvested. All the label states is prepared for Walmart. I want to know where the peas were harvested, since I do not want food processed or grown in China. My bitch, this is applicable to most supermarket food today. Time for some truth in the labels and proper information. Posted Image |

I so know where you are coming from. We have at present in Australia an outbreak of hepatitis A from frozen raspberries and other berries from China and Chile. The packaging is Nanas , a local Victorian food company. It's a product of Australia!,!,! Made from imported fruit. It is only because of the outbreak that we found out it was fruit from China and Chile. I used another brand of frozen berries for an Australia Day dessert. Again imported fruit with no country of origin. Fresh is always better but sometimes frozen or canned is more convenient. I'm looking more at the labels now and not assuming that it's an Aussie company so it will be Aussie fruit or veggies. Kahu you may be interested to know that NZ got a big write up on the news as a source of quality food. That was hard for Aussies to swallow! |

There's no getting away from it ... China is becoming more of a seasonal fruit bowl for both Australia and NZ and it pays us both to sup with a very long spoon. Our regulatory bodies are geared to work together through CER but add China into the mix and there's a whole new minefield to negotiate. |

As I read and listen to things on the news this weekend I find ISIS wants to take over the world, The Koch brothers plan on owning all of North America and now Walmart wants to poison the world. Welcome to 2015 we may not be here to welcome 2016, just the way I feel this morning. |

Migrant workers shit in the fields. Hence Hepatitis A. Probably happens no more in China than anywhere else. The only think we can do about it is to make sure everything we eat is thoroughly cooked unless we grow it ourselves. But that makes it tough for fruit unless it comes out of a can. As for GM foods, we are just out of luck. Food producers will not allow proper labeling. Edited by Trotsky, Feb 23 2015, 02:25 AM.

The PLU or UPC code indicates organic, gmo or regular (i.e. with pesticides). Here are two links: http://kblog.lunchboxbunch.com/2009/04/how-to-read-produce-sticker-organic.html http://www.dldewey.com/foodwarn.htm |

What do you think they use for fertilizer on organic food growing? I'll take potash any day. |

http://www.dldewey.com/foodwarn.htm Food Warnings - Foods To Avoid Watch out for packages which state "prepared for", "packed by" or "imported by". These usually means the food is grown and shipped in a foreign country, even though it may say, "packed in the USA." |
