Bird Flu has devastated much of the Central and Western states with IOWA alone losing 25 MILLION laying hens. Prices are soaring and I am always adamant to cut back when these episodes occur. I do it for coffee when prices soar, I got rid of the car when gas soared, I rarely eat beef and now we have cut back drastically on eggs. I feel that if all consumers do this, that when supplies are normalized the price gouging will stop and normalcy will reign in the marketplace. So we have added a cold cereal breakfast, a bit more steel cut oats breakfasts and a continental (bagel only) breakfast atop a weekly lox and bagel breakfast. We are doing eggs only once a week instead of 4 times...last a ham and cheese omelet. (Today's breakfast: Special K and Milk.) How about you? Are you seeing super-high egg prices? Are you cutting back? Gotta learn to make a congee. Edited by Trotsky, Jul 8 2015, 02:33 AM.

Eggs are usually in the $3.50 per dozen, large size here. I grumble about it then continue to buy them despite having several places nearby to buy from. One of these years I will pull over to check out what is available other than a sign saying sold out! |

Seeing such a low price at Shoppers Drug Mart is surprising since they're now owned by the Loblaws group. I know ours are about $2.75, the same price and brand as the Superstore. Walmart is about the same. This may sound weird but I hate the sight of bright yellow eggs. I'm not even too keen on looking at a soft runny egg in the morning. Mostly eggs are for baking and egg salad sandwiches. They make a very reasonable priced lunch. Once I squeezed fresh key limes to make my husband his favourite pie. The eggs I'd purchased at the SS were bright yellow. Thinking it wouldn't matter, I used them. Gross. I couldn't eat the yellow pie. He did. |

The colour is influenced by the feed. Maybe they are getting yellow squash in their diet. |

Dark yellow yolks indicate that the bird has been eating grass etc. So, I guess they were free range. I don't like them either they have a stronger flavour. |

We walked 1.2 miles in spite of my not wanting to walk today to get a dozen large brown eggs (or at least what is CALLED large) for $2.50. Best price for a while...maybe they are coming down a little. Downstairs they are $3.99 today. So we have 25 eggs and that should hold us for awhile. |

Even at a higher cost, they seem to be good value for the amount of protein they supply and the endless ways of enjoying them. I like the yellow omega eggs and I wish my daughter liked them and would share the large packs from Costco. Now the pale eggs look insipid to me. |

I find the pale eggs gross, I have been known to throw them out, luckily it is not very often. They are $2.29 at Shoppers for large, I bought a dozen extra large at Metro for $2.84. I agree OO that they are excellent value for the protein you get, and they are versatile, you can make a whole lot of different dishes with them. |

Lovely to see Donovan Bailey and the boys! What a pity that the girl to whom he handed the torch was not given a more attractive uniform, instead of extremely baggy shorts and T-shirt. Thought the opening number was great, where else could you see Samba dancers, Bollywood, belly-dancing, Thai temple dancing, Ukrainian dancers, West Indian etc. etc. all performing together? |

I thought I had posted this, but when I looked in the PanAm thread it wasn't there, how odd that I put it in the egg carton! Right Helen, she was a lovely young girl but the photos will not be something for her to treasure. when I saw the great designs of the uniforms of some of the other countries I was ashamed of our. They looked like Walmart specials. |

Before I left London, large eggs were $2.29 at Shoppers, here at Super C, discount store for Metro they were $3.39. Of course all food is higher in Quebec. Bananas, 79 cents rather than 57 in London. Same brand Bacon I paid 5.79 today and $3.89 in London just before I left (froze it) |

Yesterday I made "eggs over light," one of my favorite breakfasts, and I have decided I HATE large eggs, they are so goddamned SMALL. |
