Awesome Orange cleaner

I first saw orange hand cleaner with pummice about 1990 at a trade fair. It was immediately amazing; it worked better than the awful mechanic's hand cleaners like GoJo which just left your hands dirty in a different way. Orange smelled like an orange and washed off completely with water. I also use it on various things like car mats and greasy pants with excellent results. Surprisingly, the gallon jug I bought at Princess Auto is branded GoJo.

Recently I was in Walmart searching for Shout laundry stain remover. I couldn't find it and asked another customer if she knew where it was. We got talking and she said she used Awesome Orange from Dollar Tree. I couldn't find Shout anywhere so I bought a few bottles of Awesome Orange at $1.25. Surprisingly this smelled like orange hand cleaner and seemed to work. In fact, it worked rather well on car mats and even bugs on the front of the car. I know anything works fairly well if you use it after a good rain when the car has been wet for hours but this stuff seemed to work on dry bug scum. I did eventually find Shout in a Walmart over in BC but I think I will use Awesome Orange on my work clothes because I like the price.

We had mixed results on carpet cleaning. Our living room carpet, abused by three dogs and 20 years old still has dark spots, but the bedroom carpet came out better than with carpet shampoo and better smelling than with Fantastik.

What do you use to clean carpet spots?

I have never seen Awesome ORANGE.
I use Awesome (regular stinky spray) frerquently for the worst stains...nothing beats it for grease removal except oven cleaner.
I LOVE the smell of orange cleaners that my last building's staff used in the elevators but I never got the brand.

I will keep my eyes peeled for Awesome Orange.

In the past I have most often used a can of "Fuller Spray Foam Rug Cleaner." I do not recommend it, nor fo I recommend "Bissell Foam Rug Cleaner"

Never had a pet mess on a carpet (cats only)...and my biggest fear is that somebody drops a glass of red wine. (It's reason #42 that I usually drink martinis...gin doesn't stain.)

Delphi,
Do you have wall-to-wall carpeting?

Spot Shot Instant Carpet Stain Remover works great on pet stains and even old ones although it is best to get them asap.

Also, for years I have used this recipe in my Bissell Shampooer and even on Kim's dark blue patterned area rug in the family room with no problem.

1/2 cup bleach
1/2 cup laundry detergent (I use Tide)
1 gal water

Take care,
Pat

Wow thanks Golden girl, I thought that bleach on carpet was destructive. I've also got a shampooer and I would like to get away from Bissell cleaner due to price and the smell. I'm going to try the bleach mixture on an old orange crush stain. . I've got it faded to light orange (on gray carpet) but never could get it completely out.)

For light cleaning, my daughter uses vinegar in her Bissell. Once it dries, there is no odor.
I despise my carpeting with a passion. I've also got a large ripple in mine that is very ugly.

Oh OO talk about ripples. My carpet is silver grey and was very expensive (I did not buy it), and I have shampooed it so many times over 11 years. I have to walk through my living room to access the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, and the ripples are worsening. I am afraid to clean it again as I am sure it will increase the ripples.

What I would do with your stain is just mix a little of each ingredient in the recipe and try it just on the stain for starters. Before I bought Spot Shot this is how I used to treat pet stains. The first time I tried it on Kim's dark blue patterned rug I applied it in a corner just to make sure it was not going to remove the colour, and all was well.

Take care,
Pat

I make a paste of baking soda and white vinegar and work it into the carpet stain. When it dries you just vacuum it up. It even takes red stains out and is good for pet stains too. It's best to leave it overnight so it's good and dry but if it hardens too much, just moisten it again and scrape it off before vacuuming.

I used to use Spot shot when I had carpeting. I used it on my car mats on the weekend and they turned out great.

Trotsky,White wine removes red wine! Although i spilled an entire glass of red, on my downstairs sofa one time. My daughter took spot shot to it, and once again it completely removed it.

I have a small spot on a light beige carpet, only spot I have and I know it is there which irks me no end. I have tried it all to no avail.

I will try yours tonight. Is there a proportion to his paste?

Darcie: this thread motivated me to clean the spots on my carpet today and they came out clean though I let it harden a bit too much and had to go over it with a damp cloth. I never measure but made it fairly runny today - a bit like mud - and used a teaspoon to lay it on the spot and rub it in a bit. It will set like plaster if you leave it on too long but if you get it still slightly damp, it vacuums right up.

Will do it in the morning when I can watch the hardening. Thanks Haili.

In Canada you can buy Folex for cleaning your carpets. Spray it on, agitate in and then blot with a white cloth. Works really well. It is available at London Drugs and Canadian Tire. Usually is $10; I watch for a sale. CFC and petroleum free. Has been around Canada for 40 years.

I've also gone to industrial cleaning supplies stores that sell products to remove urine. It's been so long since I've had a pet, I don't remember the name of the product.

Kahu: thanks. You have products that I've never seen here but we probably have them in health food stores or the Bulk Barn with different brand names. I use white vinegar in a spray bottle on the cutting board, counter top and sink after preparing meat. The health nurse at a place where I worked said it kills germs and is good sprayed on a cloth to wipe down phones, keyboards etc. or around the bathroom.

When the humidity drops a bit, I will try GG's recipe on the orange soda stain. I tried all kinds of things before but it's still there. Even if it does lighten the carpet, it's better than the way it is now. It's in a spare bedroom so I'm not worried.
GG, my carpet ripple was used as a scratching post for my company cat Hitchens, the same one who decided piss was a decorative element.

I need to bite the bullet and look into laminate or engineered wood. There are so many varieties and opinions on it out there that it is confusing.
