When the humidity drops a bit, I will try GG's recipe on the orange soda stain. I tried all kinds of things before but it's still there. Even if it does lighten the carpet, it's better than the way it is now. It's in a spare bedroom so I'm not worried.
GG, my carpet ripple was used as a scratching post for my company cat Hitchens, the same one who decided piss was a decorative element.

I need to bite the bullet and look into laminate or engineered wood. There are so many varieties and opinions on it out there that it is confusing.
Thanks OO for the chuckle about the ripples and the piss. Made my day. biggrin 04

Had an appointment at the bank and got all cleaned up, and of course am always early for appointments. Turned out the woman I was to see was not feeling well so I am rebooked for Friday when I will see the chap who was covering the phones today as the receptionist was off.

When I reached home I sprayed the few weeds that were under my car yesterday and when I came inside Montana met me, but no Harley. I could hear him crying. Turns out he had gone up to the top floor, and he will not come down the winding staircase so I had to rescue him.

Take care,
Pat

So he'll go UP but not DOWN?

YUP .... you read it right. He would stand up there crying looking through the railing for ages until he is rescued, and then initially he backs away.

Take care,
Pat

Thanks for all the tips! I'll watch for Spot Shot.

I did the whole carpet with Tide once and it did a good job but rinsing twice left still left enough soap in the carpet so I didn't need any more the next time I shampood. I must try it on a spot with some bleach.

Baking soda and vinegar sounds good.

Incidentally, the carpet looks very good today, fully dry and less bright sunshine.
We have a Hoover carpet cleaner, which I like better than the Bissel we had for years. It is simpler; no tubes or heater to get clogged. I don't think there is a pump because the water tank is up high on the handle. The brush is not great, though. We use a scrub brush on all the bad spots. Of course the worst spot is where my feet go.

I have the Hoover too, Delphi. I find it comes apart so much better for cleaning than the Bissel I have previously owned. It also has a feature for hard floors that I haven't tried.

Thanks for the heads up on Awesome Orange. I know Trotsky mentioned it but did not think we had it in Canada. Cleaning around the stove was a snap.

Olive Oil: you mentioned laminate flooring. That was my first choice for the bedroom but this old house has uneven floors and odd shape rooms. Went for vinyl planks instead and like it very much - there was not much waste as the planks are 6 inches x 36 inches.

We did vinyl planks in our new sun room. We got the type that is about a quarter inch thick and has no overlap or underlap with neighbouring pieces. We were convinced by the use of this flooring in the local mall and swimming pool entrance. You paint some glue on the floor, then put the pieces in place. At the end, you cut a plank to the right length with a little trick to line it up, score fairly deep with a box cutter and bend to break it precisely. Easiest flooring I ever did and the best job. Looks great, shows no wear after nearly a year (and the mall and pool look great after 3 years of heavy traffic) and you can pull a piece up and replace it if something damages it. (the glue is pressure sensitive - when you stand on it, it is very tight but with no weight on it, you can pry it up with a knife and pull it out.) If you paint glue on the whole floor, it is waterproof so no problem spilling water on it, unlike laminate. If you go for it, the seller ought to give you a good explanation of how to do the job. In our case the salesperson was a former student who came to our place and demonstrated. I think I remember it all. It was just a little tricky to get a nice straight starting line along one wall, within baseboard thickness, that was parallel to the opposite wall. We have a slightly parallelogram floor shape but the trick for marking where to cut took care of that perfectly.

I used Awesome Orange today - had permanent marker writing on a plastic object that had to go. Alcohol reduced it from black to gray. Awesome Orange disappeared it in two swipes of a paper towel.

GG, I saw vinyl planks in a showroom and they looked very attractive and realistic. The salesperson said they are more durable than engineered wood or laminate. They must be easy care if they are like other vinyl floors. I think this may be the floor for me!

I just saw Delphi's post about this floor as well and now I'm really intrigued!

I would not risk an ORANGE stain replacing the original one. Awesome had a "regular" spray as well that is colorless.

Yes, I also bought a bottle of awesome carpet stain cleaner but haven't opened it yet. The orange general purpose stain remover seems to work well on carpet. It may very slightly lighten or whiten our light blue carpet. Certainly no orange stain! Of course you would try it on a hidden spot before going all out.
