450 g stewing beef cubes, cut into smaller pieces
4 slices bacon, diced
2 onions, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup (250 mL) sodium-reduced beef broth
1 cup (250 mL) bottled strained tomatoes, (passata)
1/2 cup (125 mL) dry red wine
1 can (156 mL) tomato paste
1 tsp (5 mL) granulated sugar
1/2 tsp (2 mL) each fennel seeds, and dried Italian herb seasoning
1/4 tsp (1 mL) each salt and pepper
1 bay leaf

In slow cooker, combine beef, bacon, onions, garlic, broth, strained tomatoes, wine, tomato paste, sugar, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper and bay leaf.

Cover and cook on low until beef is tender, 7 to 8 hours. Discard bay leaf. Serve over a Ragu noodle. I just used Rotini noodles i had on hand.

Sounds good swing.
My recipe is similar. I use a cup of red wine, 1/4 cup of flour, and a half cup sour cream at the end, no broth, no sugar, and I brown the meat in a skillet first.
I always serve over egg noodles.

So I guess mine is a bit more Stroganoffish.

Flour would be good for thickening. I'm getting lazy, dislike browning first, especially when the meat is going in the slow cooker.

Me too, I HATE browning meat, but the taste of the final product is enhanced.
