Our son is getting married on Friday, and there will be a reception for about 200. Thankfully that is all laid on at the Old Mill in Toronto. But the happy couple have asked us to play host to more than 30 people for the rehearsal dinner on Wednesday, and to serve breakfast, or brunch, to half a dozen groomsmen on the day of the wedding. On Saturday, we will have a whole crowd of our friends and relatives from out of town over for drinks and a barbecue. We are serving tapas and tapas like dishes for the rehearsal dinner, and are getting a head start on it today -- Spanish meatballs with a lot of garlic nutmeg; a white bean salad, also Spanish; roasted red peppers; a whole salmon, poached and served cold, probably with curry mayonnaise; a couple of large Spanish tortillas (egg, potato and onion); and some desserts. The groom and his pals get scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and fruit. For the bbq we will keep it simple and do burgers with potato salad and probably a huge apple crisp for dessert. After all this we will be happy to head out to our country place and collapse for a week or two. |

Every wedding I went to in Alberta was a big drunk. I thought Alberta was Canada's belt! Many weddings in our day were over celebrated Darcie. Ours was not, although my paternal family are all Irish, most managed control! Some small communities in Ab. are considered "the bible belt" Bitsy. The majority however are not! |

I now understand why my D keeps saying, "Not the right time." Even a wedding in her front yard would be somewhat expensive considering all the people who would attend. She is nearly 41, has been engaged for 20 years, has a 13 year old son, and her 'husband' can retire anytime - military. Perhaps he should suggest they marry when he gets back from his posting in April - before his 46th. They could make it a reception and retirement. I might have to suggest that when out there. Her married sister managed to keep everything under $5000.00 although it did mean receiving a lot of financial from family. That included the wedding dress and rings! Coming up to 7 years. |

Mission accomplished. Wonderful wedding, everyone seemed to have the time of their life. I am here to say that not all the drunks are in Alberta, but at least the ones tonight were pleasant and good natured. Tomorrow afternoon we are throwing a barbecue for a crowd of people that keeps growing, thanks in no small part to our son, who was inviting people in a grand and generous manner. I expect at least 50 or 60, but we'll manage. And after that, we can relax. |

Sounds like a good time was had by all. Do you have a tent in the yard? The wind today is nasty for sure and it is not supposed to warm up too much as they are predicting a high of 12C. Take care, Pat |

No tent. But we do have a large deck in the back yard and a heater. I suspect the house will be jammed. |

So can ours but they don't do it in public. My ex BIL managed a liquor store in Dallas; anytime a Southern Baptist convention or meeting would be held in Dallas, the stores doubled their stock of half-pints of liquor. |

Glad a good time was had by all. You are remarkably calm. I'd be in a serious panic about now. |
