Shade doojiggy

I want to further blacken out the bedroom. Currently I have nice heavy tapestry drapes but I would like even more darkness. It is two small side-by-side windows, each about 38 inches wide separated by about 2 inches of sash.
I would like to buy room darkening roller shades, one for each (I have seen them cheap.)...an 80 incher would be prohibitively expensive and unwieldy. Seems prices increase proportional to the square of the width.
With shades and heavy drapes I think I could get the room pitch black. (I even have reflective film on the glass for privacy and it cuts sunlight.

There is no hardware up but I can see lots of screw holes in the middle where once there was.

Question: Do they sell a doojiggy that would mount in the center with receiver slots on each side to support TWO shades?

Please do not mention Venetian blinds. When I left my last place I SWORE I would never again have them. They are nothing but dirt catchers. I would sooner paint the windows black.

TIA

When my brother was alive and living in an apartment the drapes did not shut out the light at all. I went to a sale of hotel furniture, drapes, etc. and got room darkening drapes which completely shut out the light. As I recall, they felt like rubber and somehow I do not remember them being black but they sure did the job.

Hey I like the word doojiggy. Have not heard that one before.

Take care,
Pat

My grandson had one of those projection TVs that went on the wall. He got fabric that was rubber on one side as Pat said and he picked dark green. He had them made up and when they are closed the whole room is just about black like in a mine.

On the outside of each window, yes recessed but between the two windows flush across....almost 2 windows in one wide frame.

What about adding a dark lining to your existing drapes?

Light gets around the sides and top of the existing drapes.
Besides, they are a beautiful paisley brocade that I'd rather not ruin.

My daughter had company visiting from T.O. last summer. Her house had no window coverings down stairs. She went to Home depot and bought black out shades which her DH put up for the visitors. I believe they went up with adhesive as he is anything but a DYI guy! They are now down, and the light blazes in. Maybe google black out adhesive shades.

A temporary solution would be exact fitting pieces of cardboard covered with tinfoil.

We went that route the first couple weeks after we moved in. No more.
Too much of a TOBACCO ROAD or METH LAB look.

So then I take it nobody has seen a shade hanger that can take a shade on each side. I guess I have to screw in two in the center, side by side.

Now to find 38 or 39 inch shades cheap.

I need to have something that can "go away" when I want daylight in. So pull down shades seem right.

But I KNOW I am going to have trouble finding cheapy shades that go as wide as 39 inches because something in the back of my head says that I have gone this route once before long ago.

I like the looks, swing.
But being cordless, how does it go up and down.

Confusing bits:

It is adhesive backed. Just peel the paper and stick.

If they are cordless how do they open?

It raises and lowers with clips.

Clips?????

This reminds me of a problem I had when I started teaching. It was an old school with Windows the full length of my classroom. No blinds, no way to use an overhead projector in the room. No money. I used the entire math department budget to get an overhead projector and I found red blinds the right size at a flea market at Christmas.

The clips are explained here. There appears to be no provision for opening the blind. I guess they are temporary blinds to use until you get real ones.
