I was in safeway this afternoon, this younger couple were perusing the meat dept. He picked up a rib roast and said to me do you think this is a pricing error? I said yes, the roast was about 4 lbs. and 87.00! He asked the meat mgr., no it was the proper price at 47.00 per kg! I'm glad I bought a side of bison at 6.25 per lb. I do hope the producers are reaping some of these profits! Meat Mgr. siad he'd just sold a roast twice the size for 170.00 ~unbelievable! |

Yeah. He sold it to a Restaurant probably. The other thing I noticed that went sky high all of a sudden is Cauliflower. 4 times the normal price. Gone to $8 a head. Apparently due to the drought in California and the exchange rate of the Canadian dollar. I'm renting a roast of beef for the weekend just to show off. Bringing it back Monday. Cauliflower is the same thing I thought of too, Campy. One cut in half and wrapped in cellophane was $4.98 and it was dismal looking. Everything seems high. Fortunately we don't eat much meat. |

Now that was funny Campy. Good way to begin the day with a chuckle. I do not even look at beef any more other than the fresh burgers at Costco which have next to no fat in them. Take care, Pat |

I have recently had excellent roast beef at a buffet we went to a couple of weeks ago, all you can eat and lots of other food. The cost was $14.99 and all you can eat. Another restaurant in London that is well known has roast beef with all the trimmings for $11.95 including dessert and coffee. Some people in my building have gone and said it is very good. Only place I can afford beef. Wonder who is blaming the NDP for the high price of Alberta beef? |

Maybe we can blame the people of Japan, China and India for becoming more prosperous and creating a shortage since supply and demand has a lot to do with it - and the length of time it takes to raise steers - plus the higher cost of feed for them. I picked up a small rump roast for $14. the other day and will get a lot of meals from it but find that I have to shop around to get decent prices. I went on seniors discount day and got 10 percent off. |

I'm pretty well switching to frozen veg. for the winter due to the high cost of fresh produce though squash, turnips and cabbage have been fairly reasonable. It's the imported stuff that's gone sky high. When I was a kid we never ate imported veg. in winter and we survived OK. |

Beef is actually coming down a bit in price. Still expensive though. I bought a nice prime rib roast the other day for $6.99 lb. |

Are you sure it was beef? In our supermarkets there is an armed guard on the beef meat counter. |

Now that BBQ season is past, beef prices should fall for some cuts at least. Ground beef is more affordable than it was a few months ago. Beef used to be a staple but now I think of it as a rare treat. Chicken now rules. |
