I was in safeway this afternoon, this younger couple were perusing the meat dept. He picked up a rib roast and said to me do you think this is a pricing error? I said yes, the roast was about 4 lbs. and 87.00! He asked the meat mgr., no it was the proper price at 47.00 per kg! I'm glad I bought a side of bison at 6.25 per lb. I do hope the producers are reaping some of these profits! Meat Mgr. siad he'd just sold a roast twice the size for 170.00 ~unbelievable!

I would consider myself lucky to outlive my cloves.

Being old and having a sore back, further looking for less expensive was not in the books.

The ham was delicious with the cloves. Anyhow my daughter paid. The cloves are covered with saran wrap and tucked in the fridge to keep as fresh as possible.

I used to freeze herbs and spices that I seldom use. I don't now since I am not so interested in cooking as I once was. They seemed fine frozen.

Going to put them in the freezer, good idea.

I have a large jar of cloves from Zanzibar that's over 20 years old They don't need to be kept in the freezer just an air tight container they hold their essential oils this way.. . Freezing is not recommended Cloves don't spoil..

further info on freezing spices from a spice seller - " it is appropriate to store larger quantities of spices and herbs in air tight containers in your freezer. " will keep for up to a year. If you use them often though it is appropriate to store them in tightly sealed containers away from light and heat. I don't store them in the frig though because I think, like bread they lose moisture as the door is opened and closed so often. :)

I have 5 year old whole cloves that are room temperature and closed tightly. I use them for monthlong soaks with cinnamon sticks. I use the mixture about 1:4 in tea to give it the Chai taste. THey seem to be keeping the clovey smell and taste fairly well.

(I would and DID freeze EVERYTHING when I had a chest freezer but now I cannot afford the freezer space. I can barely get my gin in. laugh123 )

I know how it is Trotsky. I used to have a large bottle of gin and a martini glass in my freezer but now I only have room for a 'mickey' and no glass. How the mighty high have fallen.

I'm sure you smell nice after that, but must be very wrinkled.

LOl! Know that feeling had to purchase a smaller fridge to fit the height requirements for the cupboard that rests above it. I'm used to a much bigger fridge and get so frustrated with this smaller version! I have to now house my gin in the freezer of the downstairs fridge. biggrin 04

Herbs do well frozen, many spices don't need to be.
