The author of this article is truly mixed up. He thinks prices in Canada for the equivalent item are cheaper. http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/consumer-prices-canada-neil-macdonald-1.3389291
That is so ridiculous. If you went to the U.S. to buy that car you would have to pay 36,285.05 in Canadian funds. The American pays $25,975 and the Canadian pays $30,864 for the same car. Where is the steal? This article is on the CBC and must have been written by a Liberal economist. If the American came to Canada and bought the $30,864 car he would pay $30,864/1.30 = 23741. What American would be dumb enough to come to Canada and pay $30,864 in American dollars. |

Seems to be that the steal is in staying home and buying that car here in Canada where it costs less, exchange rate included.
If you go shop in the US you will pay more. Stay home and pay less. |

This is astonishing, given that people have been going to the U.S. For decades to save on purchasing vehicles. It has never been explained why even made in Canada vehicles were lower priced across the border. I know a little about Toyotas from the Siennchat forum. Toyota USA will not sell to Canadians so people have to pretend to be American to buy their bargain cars. Apparently it only takes a mailing address in the U.S. because the dealerships are quite happy to deal. A 2013 story at CBC: http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/canadian-car-buyers-blocked-from-cheaper-u-s-prices-1.2435299 Edited by Delphi51, Jan 6 2016, 07:50 AM.

But it doesn't cost less here in Canada than what Americans pay for the same car. The author is insane. |

I'm surprised I didn't get more replies to this topic. |
