A few more pics of some great finds, all found on walks with the dog by our previous acreage. The petrified wood is like stone, and the one piece still has the intricate wood structures, and looks almost like wood except it's stone. One piece was found in an old exposed coal seam, you can see how the forces compress the wood into coal. Also included a picture of a couple vertebrae, the smaller one still has the markings of what looks like veins on the outside, again all mineralized.

Fascinating! I would not want to lug those home, petrified state means they are heavier.

It really must be something to run across a piece like that, and then to see it every day.
