Am I right in thinking that many of those employed by Goodwill would have difficulties finding jobs elsewhere? |

No. Goodwill pays Tim Horton wages and has few full time permant employees. I am astonished that they are closing so many stores. If they can't make it with all their products free of charge there can't be much hope for other businesses. I know the one in Brantford seems to be thriving. |

It's true Fuzzy. They hire the disabled, but have been criticized for paying them less than minimum wage under a "special wage certificate" provision. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodwill_Industries#Wages |

Guess everyone wants their own Trudashians

They are usually physically or mentally disabled but I didn't realize how little they pay them, although I'm sure that is no longer the case in Ontario as a court decision ruled it discriminatory. I always donated to Goodwill as they get the best use out of donated goods This is from 2008 but explains a bit how they help them find employment http://www.theobserver.ca/2008/08/08/employment-for-disabled |

The workers are in a union so they may be getting a fair wage.

I know they are losing customers in London. Many of their prices are atrocious, some used items are higher than new in the stores. They used to be good but my friends and I who used to go at least once a week no longer go there, not worth it. It is as if they have priced themselves out of the market. |

The CEO sure makes a healthy salary from selling things that were donated. Around 725,000 dollars a year according to Wiki. The US President makes 400,000. Maybe that's the going rate to attract a quality CEO, I don't know. |

That seems more in line than the 725,000 salary of the President of Goodwill in America. |

In our market, the Canadian Diabetes seems to have a toe hold on donations because they are so dependable with pickups, etc. Then they sell their bounty to Value Village. I use them because of DH's history and because I can count on them to show up. |

I donate all my household, clothing good to the Salvation Army. They don't have as many stores as Goodwill but their price, I have been told, are much better. |
