Isn't this the same type of capitalist 1% you've been flaming for the past decade.? Now its Ok ?. I guess capitalism has a use, like employing people, producing consumer goods, contrbuting to the economy, and paying taxes to support socialist programs.

Sounds great doesn't it. But that's over three years. 7900/3=2600 jobs per year. In the meantime 35,000 have been laid off in Alberta. Apply as a refugee. You might have a better chance of getting a job. Quebec is offering 15,000 dollars subsidy to companies hiring refugees. 35000-7900=27100 Sorry to rain on your sunny times are ahead parade. |

I thought it was KC Irving. This is the family business that owns most of the Province of New Brunswick. |

We've had 35000 people laid off in Alberta, mostly in the oil industry, however due to the 15.00 minimum wage cap restaurants are now laying people off. Cousins son works for a restaurant here in the city, they cut staff by half. Gov't says not to worry we're going to diversify into poppy farming in S. Ab. DH says oh that will make up the 147 billion we're losing in oil revenues. Turn out the lights the "party is over"!!!

We are lucky that the Canadian dollar is low compared to the U.S. dollar. That keeps the lights on for awhile. Never in a hundred years would I have expected oil rich Alberta to vote NDP. Trudeau won't help. In Davos he tried to distance himself from a resource oriented country to one of diversication or something. He talks gobbledegook. |

Never in a hundred years would I have expected oil rich Alberta to vote NDP. People were tired of the arrogance, corruption and entitlement of the Conservatives. Friends in Ottawa said " you people will be sorry" have your forgotten the Bob Rae days! As DH says anyone that has taken economics 100 knows you don't raise wages, and taxes in an economic crisis! We then have the skate boarder saying his predecessor was all about resources, he's about resourcefulness. There was one old fellow in Davos who told him he thought he was playing down resources too much. I can't remember who he was. I could google it but I'm too tired! He's such a light weight compared to his father, I do hope as time goes on he matures. :sigh: |

We can hardly blame the NDP for low oil prices and a world recession - but lots of people will. No matter what party was elected it would be the same thing. |

Well not quite. Different parties. Different policies. Different directions. Another party might not have made it a priority to cut taxes and go into debt. Another party would do all they can to help Alberta recover. |

Another party would do all they can to help Alberta recover. That is just dumb. The only thing that is going to help Alberta recover is higher oil prices. The province goes through spectacular booms and busts. Anyone with half a brain knows that. The people with something approaching a full brain ride it out just fine. I can't think of a single friend or family of friends or any of my many relatives in Alberta, young and old, who isn't flourishing. Same as the last oil bust. |

Same here, the few in my family in Ft. Mac are even working overtime, my over 65 brother has been asked to stay longer, the rest of the family in their various jobs and in farming are doing extremely well. |

Dumb huh? The only thing? Letter to Trudeau from an oil patch worker. "Alberta has not taken an equalization payment for over 50 years and has done more than its fair share in supporting the East in that time. Now that the Alberta economy is struggling due to low oil prices, why do you refuse to acknowledge the problem?" he wrote, questioning why the Liberal government has given away "BILLIONS of Canadian taxpayer dollars to other countries." "Please start helping our own people through these tough times," the letter urged. "You wanted to be the leader of our country. Show some leadership skills and work with the West for once. Please forget about your image on the "World Stage" for a while and focus on your own country. That's all I ask." |

Well what about the 35,000 that have been laid off? Honestly Darcie. Sometimes I wonder who the heck is sending you this stuff. :10.gif: I get a kick out of people that relate to themselves and ignore the ones that are not doing well. Edited by campy, Jan 23 2016, 11:04 AM.
