Starting this year, Air Miles more than 5 years old will quietly be deducted from your total. There is no warning but you can go to the Air Miles site and find out how many miles are ready to expire. You submit an email and they will get back to you.
I'm quite surprised and dismayed that they would not automatically warn people. I think I may have quite a few hanging by their fingernails at the edge of the abyss.

DT ~ I shop at Safeway all the time and did not realize air miles could be used for groceries.
Hi Swing, check you this link, all you have to do is show your air miles card, and you can cash out your air miles. 95 AM = $10.

You can do the same here in Ontario at Sobeys, Metro and Foodland. Often Sobeys and Metro have a weekend special whereby you get 100 air Miles when you spend a certain amount. Not sure if Foodland does that as well as we do not have one here. They are mostly in rural areas.

Take care,
Pat

At Sobeys, there are two ways to apply airmails. One is for groceries which accumulate until you have a 10.00 voucher. The other way is just to accumulate the air miles. You cannot convert air miles into grocery vouchers after the fact.

My daughter does mega shopping at Sobeys, and all the Air Miles she earns there she uses for gas for my grandson at Shell I think it is. She spends way more than what she needs, but 3 of her offices contribute to the food bank twice a year so she buys food to give there.

These are the locations where 95 Air MIles can be converted to $10 in Ontario.

That's a helpful site Pat, thanks. I forgot about some of the businesses that take air miles since we mostly only deal with Safeway and Shell, and then not that much.

DT .... that was for Ontario though. Before I clicked on Ontario it showed all the other provinces. At Christmas I cashed in $60 in Air Miles at Rexall.

Take care,
Pat

I checked my account yesterday. I had zero "cash air miles" and 1400 "dream air miles". Only the cash ones can be used at the grocery store or any other place I shop at. The dream air miles can only be spent at the air miles website or for flights. Pretty much useless to me as 1400 is not enough to buy anything there. I did take the option to make all new air miles cash air miles. Now I get ten cents credit for every $20 spent at the grocery store.

Delphi ..... Some grocery stores have extra Air Miles on certain products each week which add up, and the LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) here have different products each month that carry Air Miles in addition to whatever they pay if someone spends something like $30/month I think. Prior to Christmas we were buying wines we had never purchased before because they had 7-13 Air Miles per bottle, and some were not bad. Rexall Pharmacy also have these individual Air Miles as well, but same as Shoppers Drug Mart with their Optimum Points I find unless they are loss leaders, most prices are higher than say Walmart or Costco.

Take Care,
Pat

I have nearly 3000 'Dream Miles' that I plan to use for a flight. Return flights from Alberta were why I even had the card - that must have been over 25 years ago. We did manage a few such trips. Sounds like I had better check if any are going to be deducted as I made the decision to not use any for grocery purchases. There was one other time such a tactic was used so I turned whatever I had left into gift cards. I wonder if that option is still available.
