I was surprised to read this article this morning.

The World Health Organization called obesity a major public health threat in Europe.

While European men are more likely than women to be overweight, woman are more likely to be obese.
When broken down, 58.6 percent of European adults are overweight and 23 percent are obese. In the Americas, 27 percent are obese.

Sugar seems to be the culprit and most of our taste buds crave it, unfortunately.

Since I am off gluten and casein I have absolutely no desire for sweets or anything sugary. Wonder if it had any thing to do with it.

The desire for sugar is almost unbelievable. I suspect our desire for desserts may be a contributing factor among other not so obvious practices. To shake off the craving for sugar takes time and will power for sure. I don't even have it in the house. Now I only think about it 50% of the time instead of 100%

Giving up the sugar was extremely hard for me and I do crave it once in a while. I got very grouchy for the first couple weeks. I did learn to drink my coffee without sugar or honey. That was hard also.

Darcie how does one find out if they are gluten sensitive? What is casein?

I don't believe in one culprit. Not sugar, not salt, not gluten. These are just things we eat and humankind has been eating them for centuries. No one got all bent out of shape because of it. I think of the saying, "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing". Science is discovering many wonders and much information. I question whether we/they have the wisdom to understand these wonders or are we experimenting in a vacuum and blindly believing every new tid bit of information we are graced with.

When we were very small children we were introduced to sugar.

I had biopsies and blood tests.

I haven't had sugar/cream in coffee or tea since the early 1972s.

Do we have to ask our doctor for that darcie? Since giving up bread I have really good, that was the first thing I gave up. Maybe that was gluten.

Thanks :MapleLeaf:

I never had a craving for sugar until I met my partner. I actively disliked sweets. He feels no dinner is complete without dessert. His extended family is all the same, they would rather eat cake than steak. I think it may be a Jewish thing.

In any case, now I eat more sugar than I want to, or ever did.

Its interesting but a friend was diagnosed with lung cancer and given a ten percent chance of living. Two friend proposed that they would take over his diet, he lived on fats and sugars, and he agreed. He took the chimo and went on their diet. It was mostly green in the form of drinks, no sugar.

This was several years ago, yesterday I saw him just back from his annual holiday south and he is unbelievably fit looking. He has shed a good 10years. He also quit smoking.

I didn't ask, I had been sick for three years and was sent to a specialist. He took the biopsies, the doctor before him took the blood tests. I didn't ask, it was done to get a diagnosis of what was wrong.

If you are sick then your doctor will order tests.

There was a man on 50plus whose name I have forgotten. He was a walnut farmer I think. He starved his cancer by eliminating all sugars if I remember correctly.

We tried Starbucks tea once.
Dumped them out and went to Macdonalds instead. No sugar unless you put it in yourself.
