I have been doing research today to try to get some advice on how to clean this big cats bum. She has claws and too rough for me to handle and my partner is hiding in the closet. Here is what I found: 1. Prepare the bathroom before aquiring the cat. Fill tub with lukewarm water. Get cup for rinsing (if you have an extendable showerhead it works better). Aquire shampoo and as many old towels as you can find. 2. Arrange towels on floor.. it's just easier this way. 3. Aquire dishtowels. Wrap dishtowels around forearms. Secure with Rubberbands. Put gloves on first if desired. 4. Aquire cat. By this point my cat knows something is up and will have found the most inconvient hiding place in the house. Soothe cat, beware of pointy parts. 5. Close door, warn household members to ignore "skinning cat alive" yowls. If not out in 20 minutes, call the coroner: the cat won. 6. Place cat quickly in Bath. Hold down at scruff of neck. Encourage biting of protected areas only. Never put exposed flesh near cat. 7. Scrub area vigorously. Rinse. Repeat if necessary. Rinse again just to make sure. 8. Allow cat to scramble out of tub and on to waiting towels. Dry thoroughly. Allow cat out of bathroom. Provide food and water as normal but don't expect to see cat for many days. |

I wish it was that easy angora. She won't let us touch her bum and it is getting caked on there. She screams like a baby if I go near her bum. It needs to be soaked off with lots of soap and water. I can't lift her to even get her in the tub, she is too heavy. No one will help me, they are scared of her. |

I think you are going to have to cut little bits off until the fur is reduced to the point where either she can manage to clean herself or it becomes less of a need to soak and you can get away with wiping. When she is relaxed and you are petting her have small scissors close at hand. Some communities have travelling groomers, maybe look into that. Other than that you might consider giving her up to a rescue organisation who are better able to care for her. |

If she screams and is that adamant that you not touch that area, maybe there is more going on here than meets the eye. A vet needs to take a look. |

I agree with you Fuzzy and Angora. It is nice to rescue pets, but we have to be prepared to provide veterinary care for them when required. There is not much sense in rescuing animals if we are unable to care for them. Our last Golden was rehomed to us at almost 2 years of age and did not come without health problems which we discovered almost immediately as we always made a visit to the vet when we got a new puppy or in this case the older one. Dogs and cats are a great responsibility, and vet costs are becoming astronomical which means many of us know our limitations and can no longer have one. I will sadly be in that boat shortly. Take care, Pat |

Thanks for all your advice ladies. The job just got finished. laugh123 I had a man come in and we wrapped her in a towel. He held her, and I shaved the area. Now she looks (and smells) so beautiful. :MapleLeaf: |

There is nothing wrong with her ass angora, she doesn't like to be groomed at all. She even screams if her mother tries to eat her food. I don't think she ever saw a comb or brush before, she was hard to handle when I first started combing and brushing her. Now she purrs. She is so cute. laugh123 You know how they say that siamese sound like a baby crying, well mine sound that way too. |

I meant you were able to find a quick solution, although I'm sure she wasn't to happy to have her butt shaved! |

It wasn't quick fuzzy, I have been researching for an answer for this problem for weeks. While he held her, I cut some of it off very carefully. Then I shaved the top back of her legs and around the bum. Now she will be easy to wipe each day. It seems she liked the buzz of the clippers. It is a pet clipper that I used before for another cat. |

I judge myself in that boat. It just IS what it IS. I just cannot buy sofas and recliners annually because cats like to destroy nice things. As for medical expenses, I often begrudge MYSELF the costs so I am not about to start tossing cash at veterinary bills. "Once burned, twice shy." Mouse, I never once thought about using a clipper on Fleur. It's a good idea if the cat remembers what she is supposed to do. Fleur quickly gave up even LOOKING at her rear end, much less trying to clean herself. Edited by Trotsky, Feb 29 2016, 03:53 AM.
