BEST QUOTE OF ANY ERA! “The Budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed, lest Rome will become bankrupt. People must again learn to work instead of living on public assistance." - Cicero , 55 BC So, evidently we've learned NOTHING over the past 2,069 years. |

Strangely society has evolved since then by not adhering to this principle. I think life will continue, and we will always go on using the labour of the poor and complaining when they get a crumb or two from the rich. Rome fell because of the rich, not the poor. |

Thank goodness Cicero will seem out of step for most of us. We have seen what so called austerity has done with roads and bridges falling apart. All this so that the richest among us can be taxed even lower. And as for helping those of other countries, we all share the same planet and yes, we are our brother's keeper. |

We have profligacy, not austerity, and roads and bridges are still falling apart. All the money goes for endless wars. |

Yes Olive Oil we need to go back and read our history. Rome was raping all the captured countries and their own people became lazy and stupid. Sounds like what some would like to do today |

When we cross the border into North Dakota and Minnesota, we think we are in heaven . We can literally see the ubar ( sp?) on some of our roads. Not sure if I have the right name. Sink holes are not a rare event anymore. I grit my teeth when I drive through a puddle Transfer payments from the federal government have been cut in the past years and along with major flooding, there is not enough money to do more than the minimum. Imagine what the USA could have done with all the money that went into war. It boggles the mind. l |
