Two weeks ago Kim had a couple of calls, and then another one Friday evening wherein they tell you that you are being investigated by CRA for unpaid dues. The individual who called her had very broken English. Saturday I had 3 of these automated calls, and this afternoon while waiting upstairs for a trades person I had another, but this time it was a 'live call'. He told me the RCMP were listening in and would be here in 10 minutes to pick me up. Huh? I told him there is absolutely no reason for the RCMP to be investigating me, and that this is a scam and he is a phony, and I am calling the police. Again he told me the RCMP will be here in 10 minutes and once again I told him he is a phony. Ended up with him telling me I am a rotten bitch to which I told him I hope so. Then he hung up on me. How scary is this? I had researched Canada Revenue Agency on Saturday and found that many people have been bilked by this. What about little old ladies who do not have a computer? Canada Revenue Agency contacts people by mail and not by phone and definitely not automated calls, but this could sound like the 'real thing' to many. That is enough excitement for me for today. This is what I found on Saturday. http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/scrty/frdprvntn/menu-eng.html Take care, Pat Edited by goldengal, May 25 2016, 08:53 AM.

One Victoria resident, reeling from a phone call with the fraudsters, attended VicPD HQ to face what she believed to be an impending arrest. When our front desk officer approached her, the woman was visibly upset, crying and shaking. It took several minutes for our officer to help calm her down and learn what happened. http://www.cheknews.ca/victoria-police-issue-public-alert-for-canada-revenue-agency-scam-112561/ |

Our book keeper told us not to pay any attention to these calls. The police are already warning people in our area. |

When I get any type of similar spiel I never say a work, just hang up. I wish I was nasty enough to blow a whistle in their ear. |

Oh you do not only get one call from them and the first ones are automated ones so hanging up does not get through to them. Must have been a different type of call methinks. Take care, Pat |

No, I spoke to a live person who argued with me threateningly. I may have got automated calls before, I dont know because as soon as there is that telltale pause that signals automation I hang up immediately. |

I got the automated calls because I was not in the house and they send them over and over again to scare people. Take care, Pat |

I got a couple of them ages ago and just hung up. Last week there was a duct cleaner call blitz and I was getting a couple of those every day, also the credit card lady and a real estate person called. It was a busy phone week for some reason. Then there was the fake grandson in trouble and needing money but that was ages ago. I've also had an email from a friend who was stranded in London with no money but the so-called "friend" has lots more money than me and was home safely in her own home town. It's got to the point where you can't believe anyone you don't know. |

I don't pick up the phone if I don't recognise the number. There's no reason why a legitimate caller should not leave a message. |

We screen all our calls, have call display on every phone and call display comes up on the TV when we are watching. If I don't know the number it doesn't get answered but goes to our answering service. If it's important, they will leave a message, if not.. to bad, so sad. |

I have NoMoRoBo (free app) that detects robotic calls and cuts them off after one ring so we never pick up until the second ring. We get two such calls per day. |

When I was installing phone equipment, I was called upon to install these auto call systems. They are designed to listen for a human voice and starts a call transfer to a live agent. If the agents are busy, the pause after you speak will be extended. The auto-calling equipment can be located here in Canada but the agent can be anywhere in the world. eg. India! On some occasions, knowing that its a scam call, I sometimes make a game of it by leading the scammer on, letting them believe that they have a live sucker on the line. When you finally confess that you are scamming them. They do get upset. English may be a 2nd language for them, but they all know the swear words! LOL! |

I'm going to look that up to see if it will work on a cell phone. What I do now is use the rejection feature on the phone. When you get a strange number you can add it to your auto rejection list. Of course they keep changing the numbers but many of them are repeats. I can tell by the logs. |
