I see that you are all for dogs and golf. I have nothing against either. However, I have walked for years - simply by putting on my walking shoes, dressing appropriately for the weather. putting my keys in my pocket and ...walking.

I like dogs, I tolerate golf, but if i need exercise for my well being - I'll walk without either. Not too hard to understand.

No, I think we all understand Angora. Walking is great at any time. For me, it's more fun with a companion, but it's also a great way to meet people, companion or not.

Golf is good for walking.

It's expensive to join a club. But it's really an investment in your health.
I used to golf, but found it too stressful and competitive, I refuse to pay $500 for a single club that will get me 10' closer to the hole. Golf IMO has become a rich man's game, green fees for 18 holes on a cheap golf course is over $50 and the one near us is $90 for 18 holes, and that's considered cheap. I found hitting the ball into the cow pasture next to the golf course dangerous and stressful, having to dodge rattlesnakes and cactus is never a healthy pursuit. I've been hit by golf balls, fallen off a golf cart, strained a wrist hitting a rock instead of the ball, and threatened by drunken golfers behind who thought I was playing too slow so I hit their ball back to them.. almost a perfect shot for a change. <ak47.gif>

Golf might be a good investment for some, but to me it's an investment in frustration and stress, dogs are much more relaxing and cheaper in the long run.

For anyone who uses puppy pee pads they are much cheaper at Costco where a box of 120 is $19.99 whereas at Dollarama I believe they are $3.00 for 10. Cannot recall the price at Pet Smart but they are much more expensive there.

Take care,
Pat

This morning when walking Harley we met up with a younger chap we have become friends with. Usually, he is at the gym for an hour before he walks, but he said he had to cut it short as he was driving his daughter downtown. My walking bud asked what for and he said her ? implant. We did not catch the first word. Being curious I asked and she had a cochlear implant as she was born profoundly deaf and every 3 years the implant is changed. He said how fortunate we are in Canada as this particular implant today is $20,000 and $15,000 of it is covered by our health care. His daughter is now 21 and his son 23 was also born deaf and has an implant in only one ear and wears a hearing aid for the other.

Edited to say this is an upgrade to the implant.

Take care,
Pat

Makes me realize how very fortunate these kids are to have parents who can afford the implants and upgrades.

Take care,

Sort of subsidizing the people who already can afford the $5,000 grand extra. Sad budgeting - should help not be on a sliding fee scale based on family income?

Somewhere along the line the cost is outrageously inflated.

Something like the batteries going from $3.00 a pack to $8.00 a pack overnight. Of course hearing aids as well as lens are highly inflated.

But we still pay, if subsidized by Medicare we pay through our taxes.

Cochlear implants would fall under the provincial ADP program which means that the governement pays 75% every 5 years - for some devices the length of time may be different. In many instances of financial hardship other groups will , pick up the remaining 25%, e.g. a specialised wheeelchair for an ALS patient might be partially paid for by the ALS Society. The Assistive Devices Program is a great boon, but it has encouraged manufacturers to come out with increasingly expensive devices.
