A year ago we had new wills done. to the tune of 900.00 We decided we needed a couple adjustments. There were two changes, one article to be remove and one changed. His girl of 30 years did the adjustments. We were in the office 15 minutes, to go over and sign off these changes, very simple, 530.00. I was somewhat surprised at the amount charged! I know the lady who did the adjustments from my work days. She looked at me and said "a little high". I said yes, she said, he's not Wayne. Wayne was his partner I always dealt with, but cancer claimed him four years ago at age 54! Tis the profession to be in ladies and gentlemen! |

I had my will re-done a couple months ago and I think it will have to be re-written again!! I appointed all 3 of my children to be executors. Upon re-thinking, my daughter will be doing all the work as my sons live out of the country. I am now thinking of having Royal Trust close the estate. Trotsky & Swing: I have heard so many stories where one sibling feel there were treated unfairly. One set of siblings i know hired a lawyer and you know how expensive that can be. |

That is why I had chosen a good friend and a CA to be my executor. Rather have my kids angry at someone outside the family than at each other.

Your will wil have been passed on to another lawyer, but I am not sure how you find out which one. Perhaps contact the Law Society, or its P.Q equivalent. |

There are so many nightmare stories from various people that I know. I don't know the answer. Based on news stories, even the super rich have lawsuits at the end. |

I hang my head in shame but I do know that little Texas (Alberta) and redneck country very much thinks the same way. Many of my cousins think like that, they think their girls will find a guy to support them and the boys need to support their families. As it stands most of my female cousins are dead, many worked all their lives and had families to support without the help of the 'macho male'. They were poor while their brothers were rich, lucky brothers did help them with some of the spoils of the land. |

My will was drawn up in Quebec which has a different civil law than the rest of the country. Will have to check up on this. Not sure of this Darcie, but maybe you need a new will drawn up in Ontario. |

Even in this day and age, Swing? How Neanderthal. Definitely! They were poor while their brothers were rich, lucky brothers did help them with some of the spoils of the land. So Typical, as I said by virtue of a pee pee, they are the fortunate sons! I have two cousins exactly in that position, both married "poorer farmers". They've struggled all their lives while their 2 brothers inherited 16 quarters of farmland, and spend every winter in their 40 ft. motor homes in Arizona! |

Many of my cousins think like that, they think their girls will find a guy to support them and the boys need to support their families. This is so accurate, not only in Ab. but most of the prairie provinces! Many of the sons like my brother quit school to farm, thus this is all they know. I do have two great cousins who became pharmacists. They own (or did) the pharmacy in the local town, and work there during the winter, when they aren't skiing in Montana or vacationing in California! IMO of course, all the money in the world would not take me back to that lifestyle. I'd much rather live in a city with all the amenities! |

My daughter shares equally with my two sons. She is also the executor of my will and is entitled to charge the estate a percentage of the total value as a fee for services. Any man that would exclude his daughter is the lowest form of humanity. Beyond vile description! I can understand why a business would be left to a son, but it should have been incorporated and shares willed to the daughter(s). |

My late DH did not have a will. It was something he always balked at. I made sure that both our names were on all accounts and of course, the house was in both our names. My niece who is an estate attorney assured me this would be fine and it was. There were no hidden problems. My two children will share my worldly goods equally and I have a written will. My aunt who had no children gave all of us a gift of money in her final years and the rest was handled by a lawyer. This way, less went to him. |

I was not included in the will of my aunt for whom I cared during her declining years. Her will was made in 1945 and left all to her brothers. When she died there were only 2 brothers remaining. They inherited. They talked it over and decided, since I had been her support I deserved a portion of the inheritance. They freely gave me a hefty sum in thanks for my care of their only sister. :) |

We had our wills done (or the first time) last year. $450. Hope we don't have to change. |
