During the last 4 years I have purchased 5 toasters, inexpensive, expensive, made here, imported.

Anyone got any suggestions about a toaster that is consistent and toasts both sides evenly?

Ive found the same thing and I am beginning to think of going to antique markets and looking for the old flap down toasters of my childhood. At least you can control them and they arent impossible to fix.

I'm with Agate. I have a four slicer don't know the make off hand, but always have to toast twice. One side always seems to be barely toasted, while the other is fine. I like my toast nearly burned though. I was out for breakfast recently, requested my toast well done. The server brought the breakfast, commented she had said to the kitchen the toast is burned, they replied as requested.

I had a number of toasters that either made black toast, toasted on one side only or under done. Now I have a Breville Toaster Oven. The timer is easily adjusted to the thickness and number of slices of bread. I haven't used the "real" oven since getting this oven - it is large enough to roast a chicken. It sits on the counter so no bending over to take food in or out of the oven.

I have a Breville toaster and it's just as wonky as any other toaster I have had. I never thought of a toaster oven. I have a microwave that takes up all of the counter space I can spare. Maybe I could get an under cupboard micro and use the space for a toaster oven. It would be nice to not need to turn the big oven on for something small.

First of all do not get a four slice toaster.

Reason. There is only 110 volts going to the elements and they don't get as much heat as a two slice toaster. Some here might argue the point. It's resistance heat.

What I am looking for in a toaster is one with high heat that toasts the bread as quickly as possible. That keeps it nice and moist and soft while still giving you a toasted product.

I haven't found one yet.

Now the best toast I get is the loaf that is frozen in the freezer. Take out two slices. Perfect toast.

But the next one I buy is going to have a higher wattage capacity and it's going to have to be stainless because the painted ones become a mess with the heat.

Toaster overns? Just a royal mess to keep clean. Not worth the time of day.

Next. Those dam steam irons that aren't worth the powder to blow them to hell. Sputter burn and whatever you get.

We hardly ever use our big stove oven anymore, we have a Oster convection toaster oven and can't imagine not having one. It has worked flawlessly for the past 6 yrs, and we do just about all our "oven" cooking and sandwich toasting in it. The convection feature is great, reduces cooking time and cooks evenly. As for a toaster, we have a Hamilton Beach long slot toaster, so you can toast 4 slices of normal bread, or 2 long buns or various bagels, again works fine for us once you have the correct adjustment.

Gas grill is a great toaster in a pinch.

I bought a cheap tiny 2 slice toaster from Superstore and it does a pretty good job. The only problem is the slots aren't wide enough to toast buns but the last toaster which did that broke down when it was fairly new.

I have a Breville, worked well at first but now the settings don't seem to do what they are suppose to do any longer.

In storage I have an Oster long slit and wide enough for buns but doesn't seem to toast evenly.

Have a few other ones that I don't remember, I have a toaster/convection over also but the cleaning is enough to deter me from using it.

We have a very pretty (black and chrome) 2-slice T-Fal that we took a lot of time to decide on. It has a large 1/2 bagel capacity. Half of a 5 ounce bagel was important for us.
It is also pretty and the toast comes out at an angle towards you.
It has held up about 10 years so far.

It was not cheap...near $50 but we use it every day.

My daughter has one like that, recently she had to get a new one and selected the same toaster. Maybe I'll just go get one of those.

I had forgotten about that.
