Anybody know what's up with the latest craze Pokemon go ? I usually take the dog for her evening walk about 6.30, but last night I was a bit later and couldn't believe the throngs of people down at our usual park. I suspected maybe it was just the time, but I passed group of about 8 people blocking the walkway, all were glued to their phones, and the kids were yelling, "there's a pokemon here, here's pokemon !! ". The adults and kids were just about all the same, like zombies with Iphones, blindly walking along as if in a trance. This morning on our street there was a couple guys walking along watching their phones, not where they were going, and then the JWs came to the door to tell me I'm soon going to die. The human race is becoming a collection of Iphone zombie, gun-toting, religious, idiot arsehole fanatics without any common sense at all. I'm starting to feel lucky I'm getting old and won't have to see how it's all going to be in 30 years, maybe by then with any luck, the AI machines will be running the show.

You described it well, Dialtone. We were in a little town and watched a group of adult zombies walking along. The next day we were in a park watching pre-teen and young teens doing the same thing. Once they found it, they sat on the grass and were socializing. |

The Pokémon G0 thing is nuts. Somebody on the New York forum asked about it a couple weeks ago and I said that I used to be a big fan of GO and that I could not find opponents and it required more concentration than I was able or cared to muster up any more. I was set straight about it being more Pokémon and less GO. So, not having cell-phones I was saved. And then I read that retailers could buy into the game and create themselves as destinations and drum up business and that told me how typical this kind of nonsense is. Apparently it is a world wide phenomenon.
I'm starting to root for Nibiru. Edited by Trotsky, Jul 20 2016, 12:53 AM.

It's just insane. We went for dinner on Saturday at The Forks (lovely place in central Winnipeg where the two rivers meet) and there was a huge crowd of young people standing like statues and looking at their phones. DT is right - it looks like a zombie invasion.. What fun they could have had if they had looked at each other but they were all in their own little world. |

This morning we went for a walk around the city's main park, it's huge and has a big lake, lots of people and dogs to socialize our rescue dog. We had no sooner started along the walkway, when we encounter a couple teens following their smart phones, we probably encountered about 25 doing the same in a half hour, one almost fell into the lake backing up over rocks, but unfortunately he didn't, I was hoping for splash. IMO, our modern culture is going bonkers, we are witnessing true "techno dementia" , I agree with Trotsky, bring on Nibiru . gaah.gif de·men·tia noun MEDICINE a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning. synonyms:mental illness, madness, insanity, derangement, lunacy Edited by Dialtone, Jul 20 2016, 08:45 AM.

Encountered my first case of the Pokemon craze st a restaurant tonight. Seems one fellow was trying to figure out how to catch(?) a Pokemon while the other kept telling him it was pretty easy. I had dinner and a show. |

Last night's news: a woman climbed a tree to get a Pokémon piece. She had to be rescued by the fire department because she couldn't get down. Of course she could call for help because she had her cell phone. |

I almost ran down a fellow who was walking diagonally across a four lane street with his face stuck into his cell phone. He seemed oblivious to his surroundings ! Pokemon? |

It requires a good data plan, hope these people are monitoring their usage as their bill could be a big surprise, but to each his own, it's not for me to tell them their lives are of no value. It sounds a bit like geo caching to me but at least my hand held GPS doesn't require a data plan. |
