Over the weekend our complex was broken into. A car that was parked outside and stole the garage door opener key fob off the dash board. They now have access to the whole underground parking area and the locker storage rooms. They have already been into a few and will probably be back for more. Lesson of the day. Keep nothing in car that can bite your bum. :MapleLeaf: :MapleLeaf: :blackbirdyawn: :blackbirdyawn: Edited by yrrabskoorb, Aug 17 2016, 02:28 PM.

They left a "key fob"on the dash board, that was an invitation. Was the car unlocked as well??? I put my garage door opener in my glove compartment when I'm shopping. I try to deter them although if they broke into the car they'd soon discover it. My Dh also hides the registration under a floor mat! |

When we leave home overnight, I take my garage door opener out of the vehicle and leave it in the garage, then depower my garage door. I have my garage door lift motor on an outlet bar with an on/off switch, I turn the power off when we are away for any length of time. There are many older/cheaper garage door openers that use the same frequencies, so thieves just drive down streets at night pressing stolen openers to see if any garage doors responded, some do. Many people don't lock their house to garage doors, so opening a garage door usually means access to the house. |

Shouldn't the person who left the key fob in the burglarized car be responsible for the fee for resetting the keys for everyone else? This should have been reported to the condo board and done immediately. |

The registration should never be kept in the car, anywhere! A photo copy is sufficient for the police to check that all is in order! I once had my car broken into and all the thieves took was the registration papers. |

Wildie, isn't your address on the registration papers? Sorry, I'm too lazy to go out and check if mine is. I thought it was. |

The car registration? I keep a copy in my wallet along with the insurance papers. If you need to get the original the police will allow you time to get it. But last time I got stopped, the officer did not ask for the original. As long as he can radio in the registration information, he was o.k. with that. Come to think of it, I don't have a clue where the original is now since I moved. It would cost me about $35 to get a replacement. It's a world of theft out there now. It's easier than getting a job. |

My wallet is not large enough to house the registration. Where do you keep your registration? Edited by swing, Aug 19 2016, 04:14 AM.

If you own or drive a vehicle in Alberta, by law, you must buy insurance and register your vehicle. You must also keep registration and insurance documents in your vehicle: driving without them is against the law and may result in a fine. http://www.albertacanada.com/opportunity/living/transport-vehicle-registration.aspx I keep our registration and insurance slips in a pouch on the sun visor, they've been in the same place for over 30 yrs and I've never had a problem... yet. |

The Ontario registration renewal is only about 8 x 5 inches. I just copy it and fold it and my wallet is quite small. You don't need a huge wallet anymore. Drivers License, Credit Card, Debit Card, Health Card. And some currency bills. No more pictures, etc. Those are on my cell phone now. |

What province? In that case keep them locked in the trunk and hidden somewhere. When you think about it. How often have you been stopped? |
