Recently left a Seniors Group that banned anything the Administrator deemed "controversial". Unfortunately, she deemed almost everything too controversial. Death, Dying, Preparations for the fore-mentioned, Some Book Discussions, Sex and Sexuality, Religion, Political Discussion (not politicians, mind you, but the way laws affect our lives as Seniors.) It had a very small membership and I soon discovered why. Except for casserole recipes, photos of grandchildren, fluffy kitty pictures and the endless liturgy of complaints about grown children, aches and pains, and doctor visits..we were treated like 5 year olds. Not people who had a half-century or more of life on this planet and were still actively involved in living.

Can't tell you how wonderful it was to find THIS place!

Our admin, Kahu, is very open-minded and gives us plenty of rope to run with. Also enough rope with which to hang ourselves. lol I enjoy the freedom here.

I know what you mean, Carla.
I have found the same kind of nonsense on several boards.

No. It makes no sense. To treat people who have lived more than a half a century like we have nothing to contribute to the world-conversation any more. We are suppose to go over, sit quietly while enjoying our jello cups and post pictures of kitties.

I grew up during the 60's ad 70's. That attitude doesn't sit well with me.

What kind of Health Forum doesn't allow links??? Insane.

Great to have you in our nice little forum!

I had a similar epiphany in 2006 when the seniors forum I had been using got nasty due to a change from volunteer moderators to paid ones who weren't able to stop nasty posts. It soon closed.

Forums are a great way to share various things. Yesterday I found an answer to a car problem on ToyotaNation. One of the third row seats on our Sienna minivan was stuck in the stowed away position for over a year. The word was that the dealership solution was to take out the seat in little pieces and replace with a new seat, $1000 all told. The forum finally came up with a free, ten minute solution both for preventing the problem and dealing with it after the fact.

Welcome Carla55. I hope you will feel at home here, as I do. I am not a heavy poster, but jump in here quite often to voice my opinion or whatever!
