Welcome to Big Boards. Big Boards at one time offered the Zathyus network our long famous Resource Archives, our extensive search indexes, and our info-packed resource forums. Eventually, these were made redundant by upgrades to the documentations and expanded search features added to the ZetaBoards software, and this forum then lost relevancy and subsequently became inactive.

Our team then embarked on a new project called Planet Nexus, where a bold new experiment in forum promotion is taking place. We call it nexworking. NexusTree offers social networking pages for forums in a fully automated format. Your NexusTree page is created instantly when your join the nexus. Find out more by visiting Planet Nexus, and become part of the nexworking revolution.

Learning JavaScript

No, this doesn't happen to be another one of those "where can I learn JavaScript" topics, unfortunately. It is, however, relatively similar. ^_^

I've been using HTML and CSS for quite some time now. I'd really like to dive deeper into the complexities of web design, starting with JavaScript. However, I'm a bit befuddled as to where to start. I've been looking over JS tutorials and random page sources (which contain JS) for awhile now, and all I see when I picture JS is gibberish, most of the time at least. When scripting for InvisionFree, what statements are best to learn? What else should I learn (AJAX, HTML DOM)? What do I need to know when scripting for InvisionFree? Foremost, where do I start?

Basically, I'm just looking for general information on scripting for InvisionFree.

Just start with the really easy stuff, fiddle with it until it stopps being jibberish. Javascript is really hard to learn; whereas html is [command] and [/command], javascript uses lots of code even for really simple tasks.

Can I haz a Gord?

^ Worst example that could be given if you want to script for Invisionfree...no offense to you natyrox, but that's not where a coder should begin.

Cory I have a couple Invisionfree/JavaScript tutorials if you want to check them out: Here

If you want any specific tutorials up there just let me know and I will write them up. :) You should also learn HTML DOM, though AJAX isn't required but it would make things more "smooth" and an efficient way to process requests from data transferring(but that's not until you get to learn more about it before you plummet the big jump ;)). So really the main things you would need to know are JavaScript, HTML DOM, and AJAX(optional really, since if you want data transferring iFrames can do the same exact thing).

One thing you need to know when scripting for Invisionfree are the HTML elements used in the source code, such as class, id, etc. Knowing those and where to look for them is really going to help you code better in JavaScript or whatever else language. So just hit me with more questions if you have any, or anything at all. :)
Mike is my coding brother.

I'd be willing to learn JavaScript once again, because I had to drop out of the class on TCZ due to holidays, once TCZ is back up I'm willing to have a look at these tutorials and start learning again. Thanks slayer :D

w3schools.com actually happens to be one of the tutorial websites I use the most. The JavaScript tutorial seems good for learning the basics and locating specific attributes as such, but learning how to make full scripts from that tutorial would be hard as a novice, I think.

InvisionFree-specific tutorials for scripting does seem like a good place to start, so thanks for that slayer.

I defiantly plan on learning both, JavaScript and HTML DOM. After that, I'll start looking into AJAX.

So I've heard, the page source is one of your best friends when it comes to scripting.

Thanks for the information. ^_^

I'll likely be reading in on my JavaScript for Dummies book from time-to-time. I may also take the time to join a JavaScript class somewhere. So maybe soon this gibberish can be interpreted into an actual language.

I've never had to make codes for invisionfree, as everything I need has been made before.

I think you misread what Cory said, because he wants to learn JavaScript so he can do InvisionFree scripts.
