Welcome to Big Boards. Big Boards at one time offered the Zathyus network our long famous Resource Archives, our extensive search indexes, and our info-packed resource forums. Eventually, these were made redundant by upgrades to the documentations and expanded search features added to the ZetaBoards software, and this forum then lost relevancy and subsequently became inactive.

Our team then embarked on a new project called Planet Nexus, where a bold new experiment in forum promotion is taking place. We call it nexworking. NexusTree offers social networking pages for forums in a fully automated format. Your NexusTree page is created instantly when your join the nexus. Find out more by visiting Planet Nexus, and become part of the nexworking revolution.

Welcome to the BB code challenge!

The code challenge runs for one week and requires your submissions to comply with a stated theme and to be JS, HTML, or PHP codes only, but may be for either IF or ZB. The themes are specific. In some challenges, it will be obvious who is the winner, in others, a run-off poll will be posted in which BB members will pick the best code from the top three. In those cases, staff will choose the three submissions that best fulfill the theme to be voted on in the poll.

The winner will have a crown emblem displayed as an image prefix on their username and can claim the title of BB's coding king until the winner for the next coding challenge is chosen.

The current challenge is to create the best themed code. Your code must relate to some sort of theme, like a movie theme for instance. The basic functions of your code will coordinate with your theme

The challenge will close at 11:59pm Wednesday, September 3 forum time (CST or -6 GMT).

Please use the posting template. Entries must include a preview to be considered. If you have already written a code that complies with the the stated theme, you may enter it. You may also post as many entries as you like during the challenge.

May the best coder take the crown!

ok, this is a snippet from a JavaScript Library that I'm currently working on in my spare time...

I have some functions that are "themed" upon PHP functions...

here they are...

Name: Transcendant Library v0.1
Description: This will add an extra function to any script.
Copyright: Me
Browser compatibility: FF3 is known...others are expected...
Known Bugs: none...
Preview/Screen shot: http://z11.invisionfree.com/CHIRERU/index.php?act=idx
Installation: Above all other JavaScript is preffered.
Code:

var $_GET = new Array();
geturl = location.href.split("?")[1];
if(geturl){
geturl = geturl.split("&");
for(i=0;i<geturl.length;i++){
$_GET[geturl[0+i].split("=")[0]] = geturl[0+i].split("=")[1];
}}

yes, it's a simple code, but, it can do so much to help out coders that don't want to go through the hassle of splitting up the URL every single time that they need some new data...not only that, but, it allows for forms using the GET method to be used and processed with only JavaScript a lot easier...

note: to any coders that may use this...if there is not an $_GET for what you are looking for in the url, it will come back as undefined in FF3, for as far as I know, anyways...

'forever.

Name: Replace |'s and ·'s around the board statistics with music symbols (xD)
Description: Replaces all the lines and dots around the board statistics with music symbols.
Copyright: -- (Easy to code, so yeah)
Browser compatibility: All
Known Bugs: None.
Preview/Screen shot: Click - See Board Statistics (Above and Below, even in the copyright).
Installation: Put the following code in your Footers
Quote:

<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
var x = document.getElementsByTagName("DIV");
var y = document.getElementsByTagName("DIV");
for (i=0;i<x.length;i++) {
x.innerHTML=x.innerHTML.replace("|", "");
x.innerHTML=x.innerHTML.replace("|", "");
y.innerHTML=x.innerHTML.replace("·", "");
y.innerHTML=x.innerHTML.replace("·", ""); }
//-->
</script>

Objects in green can be changed, this changes the outcome of the symbol that replaces the lines and dots.

Also, question, can we enter more than one entry?

yes Justin, more than one entry can be made.

how about something that is triggered by a board function? like clicking the new topic button makes Mario appear somehow, or makes music play? Or maybe a code for a movie fan site that inserts some movie emblem in every 50th post a member makes.

Anyway...not ideas that will make you rich and famous, but maybe could be fun for some communities. :)
