*awesome title* It happened all at once. Lunar grabbed the Moonstone from its storage place deep beneath the ground, then the sky turned dark, and shadows started leaping from the ground and started attacking people and burning down buildings. Screams could be heard from practically every direction. She rose from the ground on a giant vampire bat made from darkness. Lightning sliced the sky in half, She yelled,
“ Finally, the Earth will be mine in a matter of only a few weeks!”Solar woke up with a start. She was breathing hard, and her palms were sweaty.
“Hey, you okay? Another nightmare?” Solar’s pet cat, NightWish, hopped on her bed and stared down at her. NightWish had accidentally eaten a strange berry and started talking a long while ago, before the incident with the Moonstone. NightWish liked to brag about how he was so strong and almighty just because he descended from lions, even though he was black and had gray legs. He did have unusually big fangs and claws, though.
“Yeah. It was that dream again.” Solar mumbled.
“Really. Figures. That’s the only dream you’ve had since Lunar took over.”
Solar rubbed her bright yellow eyes. The old tiny bed she slept in creaked loudly as she got off it. She opened the window blinds and let the sun shine through. Electricity was hard to come by nowadays. Solar walked across the old wood floor into the kitchen and took a took a loaf of bread and sliced it, gave a few pieces to NightWish then ate some herself, thinking about her dream and wishing that it was only a dream and that it had never happened.
Lunar was her older sister but they were very different. Lunar had black hair and Solar had blond. Lunar was taller than Solar and was 14, a year older than Solar. Lunar’s eyes were a dim shade of gray. Their appearances matched their names well.
They lived in a city called StarNight, but now most of the buildings are gone and the river that flowed through the city making it two halves washed away most of the remains of the broken buildings. It was a few years ago when Lunar discovered the Moonstone underground. There had been a legend about it saying that whoever held it in their possession would create the undoing of the world. It was an accident Lunar found it. She hadn’t even been looking for it and had no intention to destroy the world. The stone was pure evil and had a strange effect on whoever held it. They would become evil too. Solar had been there when it happened and could do nothing to stop what was happening from happening.
“So, how are NightWish and Solar going to make our small living today?”
NightWish’s question interrupted Solar’s thoughts.
“Same as everyday.”
Solar got up, brushed her teeth and got a hair brush, then went back into her bedroom and sat down in front of a mirror to brush her hair. She had fallen asleep with her clothes on. It was a simple outfit consisting of dark red jeans and a yellow T-shirt. It was the only clothes she owned. Money was hard to get.
*** Later that day Solar was in a forest nearby StarNight. Solar was hunting with a bow and arrows, and a small knife. She had just brought down a small deer when NightWish came padding up the hill to where Solar was. He was struggling and failing to carry three large rabbits up the slope and kept on tripping over them.
“Need a little help you fat little fur ball?”
“MightFish mis mot a wat wurwall!” NightWish was attempting to talk through a mouth full of rabbit fur.
“I’ll help you anyways.” Solar picked up two of the rabbits and set them down in a small pile of rabbits, squirrels, and ducks, then dragged the small deer over. Solar and NightWish made their living on hunting for the rest of their tiny city. The people of StarNight traded and saved their money for when traveling to places that used it.
***Solar had returned to the city carrying their kill on a stretcher made of skins and was trying to get the blacksmith to give her a giant cooking pot for the three rabbits when she heard someone yelling and ran out of the shop to see what was going on. Dark shadows that looked like silhouettes of people were streaming into the city walls and started burning things and attacking people everywhere. Battles were going on throughout the city. The citizens of StarNight had learned how to fight these shadows from recent attacks. NightWish was hissing and yowling at a shadow that had cornered him in an alley. Solar grabbed the bow that was strapped to her back and took an arrow from her quiver and shot at the shadow person. She didn’t miss it, but she hit the wrong spot and it went right it and got stuck in between bricks in a poorly built wall. The shadow seemed to turn around and it started to walk toward Solar. She quickly grabbed another arrow and strung it on the bow while running backwards so the thing wouldn’t catch her. This time, Solar’s shot was true and she hit the shadow where the heart would have been on a human and the shadow disintegrated.
“Everyone okay?” Solar yelled wondering if anyone else needed help.
Another shadow came towards her, but this time NightWish leapt through the air and sank his claws into the shadow. It too disintegrated. After being attacked several times more, Solar helped a group of people putting out fires. A few hours later, the battle was still going on. All of StarNight was tired and could battle no more, so they decided to retreat. Eventually they were pushed out of the city and the citizens could only watch as their city was burned to the ground. Fire was a favorite for the shadow people.
*** It was the next day. Solar had fashioned a small tent made from leaves, twigs, and branches, as did all the other people. NightWish was hunting for the StarNights with some help from other wild cats. Solar was chosen to travel in search for a new place to live. NightWish returned and introduced her to four other cats named Claw, Hawk, Mouse, and Fang, who had helped him with hunting. Seven other people including Solar had to help the cats carry all the prey they had found that they and humans would like back to camp. The next day Solar, NightWish, Mouse, and Fang set out to find a new place for a new city. Claw and Hawk decided to stay with the StarNight citizens.
“Bye, everyone! NightWish hopes that NightWish will be back soon-and with good news, too!” Solar waved and left the camp with her friends shouting good-byes and good luck and things like that. NightWish turned around and meowed.
“Catch a few hundred mice for NightWish while I’m gone!”
Solar, NightWish, Mouse, and Fang set out into the fog-filled forest. In the afternoon with the hot sun shinning down on them, Solar and friends came to abandoned city ruins. It looked like what happened to StarNight happened to this city.
“It looks like the shadows came here, too. Seems like they just keep moving forwards destroying whatever comes in their way. Doesn’t sound like a good plan to rule the world, or whatever Lunar wants to do, since everyone will be gone or dead if this keeps on happening to cities. The shadows stayed in StarNight when we left, so I hope there aren’t any still over here. Lets try to find something useful that’s left over from whatever happened.”
“Doesn’t really sound like a plan to NightWish” mumbled NightWish.
“Who cares? It’s The best thing we can do right now. Split up and look for stuff!”
Solar wandered about alone. She wished she hadn’t told the cats to go off, because she has gotten a little scared, expecting a shadow that wants to kill her to pop out of a wall or come around a corner at any second. In a house with the roof torn off and crumbling walls she found a cupboard full of food, beds to sleep in for the night, and a rusty sword hanging on a still standing wall. She found Fang and told him to find the others with his excellent nose. He just nodded and padded away, with his tail swishing back and forth.
*** Three days later Solar, Mouse, Fang, and NightWish were walking over a large grassy plain and had been on it for quite a while, when rain started pouring heavily down. Everyone was drenched in seconds, and the ground was soft and mushy under Solar and the cat’s feet. Every square inch of the plain was turned to soggy mud. The river that had been slowly flowing besides them (It was the same one that went through StarNight) was filled with dirt and turned into rapids. Solar thought that it felt like the ground was slowly denting in, but that wasn’t possible, was it? So she decided to tell the others and wondered if they would call her crazy.
“Hey, do any of you cats notice something strange happening to the ground?”
“Like what?” NightWish cocked his head and stared curiously at Solar, as did Mouse and Fang, since they couldn’t voice their opinion.
“Well, you might think I’m insane but….”
“Okay then…what is it already? Spit it out!”
“The ground… it’s caving in… or it feels like it is…”
NightWish sighed, “You really think that, don’t you?”
“Come on! You’ve got too feel it to!” Solar was getting kind of annoyed.
Mouse meowed something to a NightWish with a frustrated expression, then a slightly confused one.
“Mouse thinks that there might be some sort of cave underneath us, and that the rain is making the ground weak. She also thinks that we where standing on a patch of really thin ground, and our weight plus the soggy weak ground was causing the cave roof to start to cave in…So there is a chance that it will-“ He broke off when the earth rumbled and shook, and then a giant hole opened up beneath them.
*** NightWish blinked open filth covered eyes. Where’s NightWish? And the Solar? He thought, then remembered that NightWish had fallen through a large pointy hole in the earth and that NightWish had fallen through. NightWish’s left fore-ankle hurt, and he saw that it was twisted, and his back also hurt. The Solar, Mouse, and Fang didn’t wake up yet so NightWish decided to explore. NightWish found out that there was a gigantic and really long tunnel, but decided not to explore that, because NightWish thought that NightWish might get lost. He also discovered that The Solar, NightWish, Mouse, and Fang had fallen a long ways and could not hope to get back up a hole that deep. There was also another tunnel, but a big gigantic pile of rocks blocked it. NightWish decided to try to wake up the Solar now.
Solar woke up to her face being licked and a heavy weight on top of her.
“NightWish! Get off of me! OW! My arm hurts, I think you broke it jumping on me like that!”
“NightWish breaking The Solar’s arm? Never. It was most likely your big fall through that big and gigantic-like hole in the ground! And you over reacting to pain. Your arm’s not broken! You just fell down that big gigantic hole in the roof!”
“What? Oh, yeah… the ground caved in, and we all fell down… Hey! Wake up, lazy bones!” Solar shook Mouse and Fang awake then NightWish commented on the huge tunnel up ahead and voted himself leader and started walking ahead of everyone else, tail held high.
*** They came to a large circular room in the cave, and in the center of it was a large bright yellow stone. NightWish hopped on top of it and yowled,
“Hey look at NightWish! NightWish is glowing!” And NightWish really was glowing.
“NightWish! Get off of there! Who knows what’s going to happen? Off! NOW!”
Solar grabbed NightWish off of the stone and set him down. She looked really worried.
“NightWish, DO NOT go on there ever again. You hear me? What if what happened to Lunar happened to you? I don’t want that to happen again! Lunar was my sister, and you’re my companion! I’m not losing you!”
“Relax, that stone was yellow, and besides, nothing bad happened to NightWish, right? And the glowing thing was pretty cool. And look! There’s writing on the wall over there! NightWish wonders if anyone got in trouble for writing on the walls?”
Solar walked over to the writing and read it silently, to herself.
“Hey, cats! Guess what? This thing is a Starstone! It’s supposed to be able to cast out the power of the Moonstone!”
*** After months of traveling Solar, NightWish, Mouse, and Fang found Lunar’s fortress and defeated the shadow guards surrounding the castle… they are now inside it about to enter Lunar’s chambers, where she is supposed to be now.
*** The door slowly creaked open. Solar had the Starstone in a pack tied around her waist. Solar and the cats crept into the large, black gloomy room. Lunar was laying in a large bed with a large canopy over it. She wore a crown of onyx with the Moonstone embedded in the front. Lunar turned over in her sleep and she was turned away from Solar.
“I wonder…” Solar whispered, “If the Starstone will also turn her back? I’m sure it will destroy the Moonstone and destroy the shadow people and keep them from coming back, but what’ll happen to Lunar?” Solar started fumbling around in her pack and took out the Starstone.
“Now, if I only knew how to use this, and rid the world of the Moonstone.” Mumbled Solar.
“You woke me up just for this? Really, this is pitiful. You came all the way here, and can’t even use the Starstone. Pitiful, just pitiful. I expected more out of you, little sister.”
Solar froze. Lunar had known they were here all along? What was she going to do to them?
“Naturally, I’d just call the shadows to throw you out of my castle, but obviously, that won’t work, since you actually managed to defeat them. Is that a kitty? He’s cute.”
Lunar grabbed NightWish and held him up to the light, while NightWish wriggled around and squirmed. Solar tried to take NightWish back, but Lunar pushed her away with her foot. Mouse and Fang started hissing at Lunar when Solar fell to the ground, grabbing her stomach and moaning. She slowly got up and reached her hand toward her hip, aiming to get out the rusty old sword she found out of its sheath, but Lunar waved her hand and a bunch of shadow people came from the floor. One of them took Solar’s weapons and they just disappeared, turned into air, or that’s what it looked like. Mouse and Fang destroyed the shadow people, but whenever one disintegrated, three more popped in its place. Solar was left trying to get rid of the shadows coming after her by stabbing them with a pen she had in her pocket. It didn’t really work out very well. Eventually the huge room was filled with the shadows and Solar couldn’t see Fang or Mouse anymore. All she saw was a shadow rushing towards her. Out of instinct, she ducked and held her hands in front of her face, in them was the Starstone. Solar felt her energy go away, but the Starstone started glowing. All the shadows disintegrated and Solar could hear their faint screams. There was a flash of bright yellow light and it spread through the room and the Moonstone cracked and it made a small explosion of darkness that came from the evil stone, but the light quickly swept it away. Lunar dropped NightWish and he growled a loud, “Finally!” and scampered over to Solar. There was an even brighter flash of white light and the castle was gone, and Solar, Lunar, Mouse, Fang, And NightWish were sitting on a large cliff overlooking the rest of the gigantic island that they had known their whole lives. The light had gone all over the place and restored all the damage that the Moonstone had ever caused. Lunar sat and watched as it all happened.
“Solar?” She asked.
“Yes?”
“What did the Moonstone do? I have no idea what just happened. Now or before all this happened. I can’t remember anything but being trapped in darkness the whole entire time. I tried to escape it, but no matter how far I ran, I never got out. I could hear a voice, though. An evil voice. I’m pretty sure that it was the voice of the Moonstone. It would talk to me, but in a mocking way. It would sometimes show me pictures of what was happening to the world. I was sad and scared; I had no idea if I would ever get out of the prison of darkness. The Moonstone was controlling my body, but not the actual me. I don’t know where I was but it wasn’t this dimension. There is no place like that anywhere on or near the Earth, I know that. But you saved me, Solar; you destroyed the Moonstone and saved the world. Thanks” Lunar hugged Solar.
“I’m glad that wasn’t you before.” Solar said.
*** Solar, Lunar, and the cats returned to the once again whole city StarNight. Solar was considered a hero for her bravery, and no one blamed anything on Lunar. And, to NightWish’s delight, when they returned exactly one hundred mice were waiting for him. Too bad he couldn’t eat them all.[spoiler/]
Gahhh.... I centered a bunch of stuff and indented my paragraphs like a good little waffle, and it all vanished....... a wasted a few minutes of my life for Nothing. Oh, well, who cares.
I just found out that nightwish was a band....
