Broken Parallels - What would happen if my imagination ran amok. Chapter 1 I close my eyes and step inside. I don't know what's going to happen. For all I know I've swapped one horrible death for another. But I can't stay in this world. The Virus will kill me, the same way it killed everyone else. The other survivors, my brother included, must have escaped by some other means. I don't have a choice here. I MUST escape. My name's Pohatu. And these could very well be my last words. *** The light envelopes me and my senses. I'm blinded and deafened at the same time. I feel nothing. Then I hit something hard. The light has abandoned me. *** Is that consciousness beckoning me back? I believe it is. There is something pulling at my leg. I can only just feel it. "Whoooweeeee, would ya look at that?" The voice is unusual. Obviously male, but that is a dialect I cannot quite understand. I'm amazed that I can understand him at all. I open my eyes to see something way beyond my understanding. A highly organic being, wrapped in some sort of fabric and wearing a tough metal object on what I assume to be its head. I have woken up in another world. "Hey, boy, tex, whatever ya are, ya mind if I strip ya for metal? I need it to fix my truck." I believe it's talking to me. So I respond the best I can. "No, I am currently using my metal." The creature glares at me, unsure what to think. Then, without warning, it turns around and calls out to what I guess is another being. "I don't think I'm gonna be able to fix us up quite yet. This doggone alien thing seems to be alive!" After a slight struggle, I manage to get onto my knees and have a proper look around. At first glance, it appears that I'm in a desert of some sort, much like home. But in the distance, I can see some sort of city, glowing brightly in the evening sun. Or is it dawn? I am unsure, and haven't taken time into an account yet. "What is it, mein love?" "That alien robot is alive, baby. I guess that makes us richer... That is if we can get this doggone truck moving! Dag-nabit!" The organic being walks away, off to what I assume is its 'truck', to where another organic being, wearing less fabric and with darker features. My instinct tells me that it's a female version, but I am not sure. "It's an alien. All the way here in darn-tooting Texas." "Oh." The female falls silent and I only just manage to stand up. The organic being is quite small, only just two thirds of my height. "Ya seem awfully quiet, darlin'! Is something botherin' ya?" "Nein. It's just that my ex-husband keeps on calling me." The male put his arm around the female and took a small device from her, threw it on the ground and smashed it. He then proceeded to take another out of a flap in his fabric wrap and handed it to the female. "Ya can use mine, darlin'. I don't like this dagnabit new technology anyw..." it paused for a second, then exclaimed. "THERE'S THAT DARN JACK!" "Wonderful!" The male reached down into the 'truck' and picked up yet another strange-looking device. With this device, he lifted the 'truck' up and changed one of the wheels, which I just noticed was not as round as the others. "There we go! Job well done." The being turns its attention back to me. "As for you, wanna come with? I suppose with ya all stranded here, it ain't gonna do anyone any good. Ya come with us and maybe we'll make something outta you. Since we ain't working no more for BLU, gotta make our money somewhere..." I'm unsure what to do. I could remain here, but there is a chance that no one else will come. I would walk off, but I would have no information as to where I'd end up. I could very well end up dead or broken, much like Lewa once ended up after encountering a strange new species. "I know what ya thinkin', alien. Ya not sure what to do. Well, why don't ya come with us? We're on our way back home from the courthouse, dealing with m'darlin's ex-husband (darn that freaky doc) and I'm sure we can bring ya with us. Go on, climb on the back. What with all that stuff going on at those science departments, it's best they don't get their dirty li'l hands on ya." I nod my head and climb on the truck. "Why did you not hurt me?" I ask, unsure as to why this creature is being so kind. "Eh, boy, we've had a lotta aliens landing lately. What with what's been goin' on at bad ol'Black Mesa and all that, w'all know what's a bad alien and what ain't. Ya didn't attack me, so ya'alright." "Thank you for your kindness. My name is Pohatu." "No problem, boy. This is my babe, Fritzi and ya can call me Dell." Chapter 2 We got an alien in the back of me truck. Looks like a cross between a robot and some sorta human thing. After all Fritzi's been through today, what with her messy divorce case with her ex, she was kinda pissed when we got the flat tire. She's still kinda quiet, but I can see that she's thinkin' about how much money we could make from this thing. It even has a name. Not a catchy one, but a name. Plus it understands us. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not. That's not the worst thing, though. I think our house is gone. I've just pulled into the road where our house normally is, and it's not there. I can't have taken a wrong turn because the letterbox is still there. It's a house in the middle of a flat desert. S'pose it has something to do with that large research centre they were building. "Dell? Where iz the house?" "I don't know, babe..." I reply. That doesn't fill any of us with confidence, but it's true. "Hell no, we were only gone for a month, staying at me old place up north! Surely BLU would have given me some notice?" The alien creature just looks blankly at the science facilities in the distance. Maybe it's a mistake bringing it this close. But maybe they also know what the hell happened to my home. Probably not. Officials and penpushers the lotta them. I ought to warn the alien guy first. "Hey, Pohatu, we're gonna head over thattaway ta see if that science facility knows anything about this. Ya'welcome to stay here, or to come wit'us, whatever ya want." "What company iz it?" Fritzi asks. "Aperture Sciences, I think. Not sure. We'll see when we get there. Just wanna make sure I have me trusty toolboxes with me." So we get into the car again and drive off. Alien robot guy makes a smart choice and stays behind. We're gonna head up there and ask what's going on. Sounds like a darn-tooting plan. *** We get closer to the facility and realise that something's amiss. I don't think there should be so many lights on inside that building. Nor should there be any sirens. Fritzi is asking me why we're still going forward. I'm not quite sure. Maybe it's always that bright and we've never noticed? Either way, I bring the truck to a halt and climb into the back. I pick out one of my toolboxes and set everything up. As the machine builds itself, I smile, always amused by it's genius. The machine beeps, then pauses. I check it, it is working fine, but it's spotted someone. "I changed my mind. You are small, organic beings and it is my duty to protect all those weaker than me." The alien guy came back. I open my mouth to ask it how it got here, but it does this weird sorta smile and simply says that it ran. "Spose ya feelin' better now, boy?" I smile back as I jump into the truck and start the engine. Alien guy says he'll run alongside the truck, stating that he could do with a bit of exercise. *** For whatever reason, there is no one stationed by the entrance. It's all locked up, but there appears to be something going on inside. I heard that the place was recently made automatic, so they didn't need so many staff (partially the reason why I was fired...) but I swear I can hear gunfire. Suddenly, an explosion rips apart the front of the building. Before Fritzi or I can do anything, the alien guy grabs the whole truck and moves us out of the way, almost as if it's all in slow motion. He puts us down and stares at something on the ground. Small, round and barely a metre tall. My sentry gun beeps, but I tell it not to fire. "Please don't hurt me. They were hurting me. Please don't hurt me too!" What a day this has turned out to be! Edited by Phovos, Tuesday, 24. May 2011, 09:51.

Chapter 3 (The incorrect grammar is intentional as this is from Fritzi's view) Dell looks surprised. So does the alien. I am surprised too. We only just want to go home from the court meeting with my divorce problem and now there is a strange another alien in the way. That is two aliens today. "Stand back, organic beings, I will deal with this Bohrok!" the large, taller alien commands. "DON'T HURT ME!" the small child alien shrieks. I do not think that it is scary. More scared. It is very small, red and slightly like an insect. Or maybe dinosaur. I am not sure. It has lots of silver on it and it is carrying white thing with red laser on it. "Woah, neddy! Alien guy, Pohatu, you know this creature?" Dell asks. "I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT ALIEN THING IS!" the small creature cries. "But it knows what you are!" I reply, tilting not sure whether I should get out of the car. "I don't know..." it repeats itself. "But you, Pohatu?" Dell turns to the big alien. "It is a Bohrok. Insect destroyers from back home. I do no know what it is doing here." "But you're from another planet! I've always lived here on Earth!" The creature make good point. Dell shakes his head. I wonder if I am wake. "Well, one of you is lying. Or confused." "Or both..." I add. "Yep... Anyway, I think we oughta leave now... We'll sort this all out when we get to me other home, up north." Dell is always good debater. "I don't know what that alien is..." the little one says again, as if lost and confused. We all get into the car and Dell starts the engine and we drive off. The little alien is sitting between me and Dell. "So, little one, describe yourself..." Dell suggests to break the silence. The little alien sniffs. "I'm called Tahnok but we don't really have names. Some scary humans broke into our nest and tried to kill us. They captured my mother who doesn't like me and my aunty who does. Me and my brothers tried to save them but they captured me and made me do the same tests over and over and over again!" He takes a breath. "I wanna go home. I miss my brothers. This turret here was my only friend." "How old are you?" I ask. "12, I think. I don't know how long I've been trapped in there..." |

Wowww hey, that was INTERESTINGGG. I;m not very interested in Fritzi, but ddoes she have her own "story" or something she's hiding later? Her husband - current one - a very interesting man. I like Pohatu. He makes me read more. more. more. MOARRRRR and all that. ![]() So basically, it was good, the descriptions and stuff - though i dont really bother about those. What matters more is the plot, and you certainly look like you got one! So, good job, keep it up, and MORE!!!! ![]() Bye. |

Chapter 3 Hello. My name is Security Turret 16160. I am currently in an unknown location and moving steadily north. Connection with Aperture Science Laboratories was lost 0.3 hours ago. I am travelling in a 1954 Toyota Land Cruiser at approximately 60km/h. With me are 4 other beings, two of which are on alien natures. The other two occupants are human beings, a Mr Dell Conagher, ex-mercenary and member of the BLU Mercs Unit, working as the team's Engineer, and a German ex-patriot. Data files do not contain any further information. One alien being is of an unknown species. The other alien is Test Subject 1600, an alien from the Bohrok species, extracted from a raid on said species' nest in 1993. Test Subject 1600 has been held captive for two years exactly and has been doing tests daily. Test Subject 1600 also saved me and several other Security Turrets from termination. That makes him my friend. We are still travelling north. Test Subject 1600 appears to be scared of the other alien and of the humans. Human: Dell Conagher has constructed a Sentry Turret in the boot of this vehicle, which continuously scans its surroundings. I too scan my surroundings but only the 180 degrees that is in front of me. This may scare both Test Subject 1600 and myself. Our vehicle has slowed to a halt and the two humans and the unknown alien have left the vehicle. There is a small house about 505m away, behind a large fence and a chunk of farm land. Near the middle of the property is a small oil pump. The humans order Test Subject 1600 to remain seated as they walk off. After the humans are out of range, Test Subject 1600 disobeys the humans' orders and follows, leaving me alone with the Sentry Gun. |
