Before you diss me for writing something Bionicle related and run off- just an FYI. This was written in the style as if everyone is new to the storyline, meaning, yes, you don't need to be a Bionicle fan to understand this! I'm actually serious andandand for Bionicle fans, before you get all pissed and bored, this does link back to the original story in some mysterious way which I shall not reveal. I know, this is a bit short but well better keep it more suspense filled now =D

In the time before time, the Great Spirit Mata Nui descended from the heavens, bringing we, the ones called the Matoran to this island paradise. We were separate and without purpose, so the Great Spirit blessed us with three virtues- Unity, Duty, and Destiny. We embraced these gifts, and in gratitude, dedicated our lives to fulfilling these virtues.
But our happiness was not to last. Makuta, Mata Nui's brother, was jealous of these honors and betrayed him. Makuta ousted him as the Great Spirit, and brought darkness to the land, and with it the worst nightmares that one could only hope were dreams.
The Great Spirit could not bear to see his people tormented, and valiantly fought to defeat Makuta. He succeeded, but at the cost of his own life. With only the three virtues to guide us, we rebuilt our homes and our lives, never once forgetting his sacrifice.
Centuries passed in peace, but legends foretold of the shadows returning, and they were not wrong. Hope was lost as we struggled to survive in the midst of darkness, with nothing but the legends of the past. These legends- they told of six heroes, the mighty Toa, with powers of the elements who would appear and save us from these shadows. This is their story.

Chapter I

Ta-Wahi. A barren land with a vast sweeping sea of lava, which stretched for miles around , inhospitable to all but the Ta-Matoran and some species of creatures. Right in the centre of it all was the Great Hatu volcano, surrounded by a moat of red-hot magma. Matoran used to often be seen lava-surfing, but now not a single soul was seen anywhere near the volcano. The time for that had passed, and it was now too dangerous for any Matoran to venture out of the village. The shadows had seen to that, with dangerous creatures, Rahi beasts, in all forms, everywhere.

So what was this unusual, large cylindrical canister doing in the middle of nowhere? And in the volcano, nonetheless. Why would such a strange object be found in it?

If anyone had paid attention to the legends, they would know this was no ordinary canister- there was someone inside it. The lid of the canister started opening and gears could be heard whirring, and he emerged from within it.

Who was he? He could not remember anything. Not even his name, and his memories were shrouded in mystery. Everything was a haze. The volcano. Why was he in it? How did he get here? This frustrated him, and he hit at the stone in anger. A burst of fire emerged from his palm and melted the surrounding rock, turning it into lava. He leapt backwards in shock, afraid the fire would scorch him. He needn't have bothered, as when the lava hit him, he felt no pain, but in fact felt stronger, like the flames were giving him strength.

I am gifted with the power of control over the flames, but for what reason?

Using his new-found power to burn through the side of the volcano, he slowly clambered down the side. His new abilities did not guarantee being protected from sharp rocks. Reaching the bottom, he noticed some unusual carvings on the wall. They were in an ancient language, and it looked to have been carved long ago as dirt now obscured part of them. He brushed off the dirt, and tried reading it. The words he could not understand, but he felt something- almost emanating from the carving itself. An unusual and mysterious energy. He placed his palm on the carving, and from it dark images were transmitted into his mind, times of doom and despair, where evil would rule. He shuddered in shock.

He remembers it now. This island- it was peaceful, free from evil, until a few thousand years ago, a shadow took over the land. The carvings on the wall suddenly started to glow eerily, and the wall opened into a chamber.

Entering it, he noticed there was a mask right in the centre. He could feel its power even from a metre away, as if calling out to him to wear it. Reaching for it, he put it on his face. Almost instantly, he feels a power surge going through him, as if a switch in him was flicked on. He had felt power when he had absorbed the lava, but now this- this was something far more.

Noticing two swords in the corner, he picked one up and watched as flames danced along its length. Such raw power... It was clear that he was no ordinary Matoran, and he was destined for a purpose. But for what? These answers would come in time, he told himself, as he embarked on a quest to answer his many lingering questions. Had any Matoran seen him, they would be comforted by the fact that the legends were true, and that Takhan, the Toa of Fire, would soon be by their side.

Chapter II

He ran through the forest at full speed, cutting down or simply jumping over any obstacles in his way. Mere moments ago, he had awoken and emerged from a canister, with no memories at all, bar one- of dark images, shadows claiming the island, that would haunt his every waking moment. He did not have time to ponder the meaning of this either, as shortly after waking he was chased by four ferocious creatures.

They were after him, but for what reason? They did not appear to be any sort of Rahi. They were far too intelligent to be one. Each of them had a wicked staff that crackled with energy. They were serpent-like beings, with a row of vicious spikes on their back, and a face out of a Matoran's nightmare. Stranger still, each had unique powers. One had blasted at him a bolt of lightning, and only his quick reflexes saved him. Whatever these creatures were, they were powerful.

He continued to run in the jungle, and sounds of the trees crashing could be heard not far behind him. These creatures were tearing apart the forest at an alarming rate and were catching up to him. He could feel another burst of energy just whizz pass his head, and it hit a tree instead. It immediately disintegrated. His eyes widened in shock. He tried to run even faster, but they were slowly gaining on him.

Maybe it's time to quickspeed things up a little-

Grabbing onto a vine, he pushed off from the ground and swung from tree to tree, his momentum carrying him. Soon those creatures were out of sight and the sound of falling trees was far behind him. After a while of swinging through the trees, he came across a cliff.

This is ever hard-luck, I am quick-trapped ,this can only mean trouble-bad!

Looking at the cliff, he estimated it was about a hundred feet tall.

Too huge-big too climb, and a fall would be a quick-death.

The monstrous beasts were getting even closer. He was running out of options. Climb the cliff, and run the risk of falling to his death, or dying at the hands of those creatures? He decided the former was a better option, and he began to scale the cliff. He was about halfway up when the creatures finally spotted him, and they began blasting at him. Thankfully, they did not have great aim, as all of their blasts had missed him, though a few were too close for comfort.

The beasts snarled in anger, and began climbing themselves, while simultaneously firing at him. In desperation, he tried to climb faster, but the creatures were strong and agile, and he was almost at the mercy of their dangerous staffs. Eventually, he would get hit by one of them. A final burst of energy disintegrated his footholds, and he fell.

Well, what an ever-fun day. First I awake and now I end up ever-dying.

He closed his eyes, expecting the ground to meet him. After a few seconds, he realized he was not falling. The cliff was not that huge, he would have met his end in no time. Opening his eyes, he saw he was standing on thin air. Then it hit him. He was levitating! He could vaguely sense his mask was glowing.

This mask- no wonder I felt surge-power when putting it on. That was too near-close.

Using his newfound power, he levitated to the top of the cliff, with the creatures attempting to shoot him down, but their efforts were futile, he simply was too far away.

Now that I am ever-safe, at least for now, what cause-harm would it be to set a trap?

***
The beasts reached the top of the cliff, only to realize that their prey was nowhere in sight. One of them, with armor in shades of metallic blue, snarled in a mixture of anger and frustration. They had failed. The masters would not be pleased by this. A chance to capture one of the Toa, and they had failed.

That was the last thought that ever crossed the beast's mind as its head hit the ground, and the rest of the body crumpled. The comrades of the fallen creature whirled around to see what happen, but all that they saw was a flash of green. One fired a bolt of electricity, only for him to dodge out of the way and hit another one of its companions, disabling it. In almost no time, it was alone, with all the others taken out. But thanks to its powers of electricity, the green Toa was forced to keep his distance.

He kept on dodging each of the electric blasts hurled at him, leaving the ground scorched in places.

There must be something I can do to halt-stop it...

He paused to think. He had the element of surprise to take down the other three, but he couldn't use it now. Unless... He grinned, a plan forming in his mind. The creature launched another burst of energy at him, and he ducked, dropping to the ground. He rolled forward, and leaped to his feet, striking the beast with both his swords. Too late, he realized that the creature had blocked his blows with its massive staff. It knocked him off his feet and he fell onto the hard ground.

It had its staff ready, and struck for a lethal blow. In desperation he swung his sword at the oncoming staff, to try and block it, but it never made contact. Instead, the creature staggered backwards, as if hit by an invisible punch. He swung his sword again, and it lifted the creature off its feet and sent it flying backwards.

This power! The wind answers to me! This will be ever-fun.

He grinned. He swung both his swords at the same time and a massive gale smashed into it, sending it crashing off the cliff.

Such power, what reason could it be for? And what were those strange beings?

He shrugged off the disturbing thoughts.

Well, time for dark-worry later, joyfun now!

And so Vahrik, the Toa of Air leaped off the cliff, and calling upon his powers over wind, flew, in search of answers.

Very nice! I'm glad you used the description I gave you. You worked it in quite well.

So, is there going to be a chapter for each Toa?

Probably not for all- it gets a bit repetitive. I might work a few of their chapters into one, prolly.

I love how at the end when he figures it out he's just like "oh snap this mask thing lets me KICK ASS how cool is that". It's kind of adorable.

Anyway this is great, blah blah, not going to comment on grammar cuz it's nano, though you may find it helpful to separate his double-words with a space so the nano counter will register them as two instead of one. For instance: halt- stop, ever- fun, dark- worry.

Or you can not cheat, and make pwning me a lot harder for yourself. Do as you like. I'm just happy you're writing awesome stuff again :)

Chapter III

Onepu wandered through the vast region of Onu-Wahi, which Onu-Metra was located in. Unlike all the other villages, Onu-Metra was underground, and consisted of a main village with many networks of tunnels and caverns. It was not unheard of for Matoran to get lost, or according to Turaga Whenua, the village elder, they were claimed by the shadows themselves. He shuddered in fear, recalling all the Turaga's many tales.

He silently cursed himself for leaving the safety of Onu-Metra. There he was, but one Matoran wandering through the vast tunnels, filled with all sorts of danger, with not even a weapon to defend himself.

Then again, a weapon wouldn't be much use against these Rahi beasts... even a dozen Matoran would have trouble bringing down a single Muaka, cat-like creatures the size of an elephant, with sharp claws that could tear through any metal. They were known to hate sunlight, and resided underground.

He continued on his way through the tunnels, in search of a mysterious source of power, which could possibly be used to destroy the threat that the Rahi posed, perhaps even free them of the evil on the island. Centuries ago, he remembered how the island was in prosperity, and all the Matoran lived peacefully and their lives filled with joy. But that had changed. Matoran began disappearing, and Rahi attacks were becoming frequent.

But the Matoran held on, until six Matoran mysteriously vanished from the island, with not a trace of their bodies anywhere. On that same day, six mysterious beings appeared, with dark and mysterious powers, and they proceeded to rule over the island, capturing many Matoran and enslaving them in their fortress right in the centre of the island. Many concluded that the Matoran had transformed and became twisted versions of themselves, but the Turaga refused to accept this fact, instead claiming that the Matoran would one day return, but as Toa, and save them. But it had been centuries, and no Toa had showed up whatsoever. The villagers were resigned to the fact that they only had themselves to rely upon, and that the Turaga were wrong.

Onepu was no historian, but he knew that legends could not always be relied on, for they were just legends, without a trace of fact. He continued to search for the mysterious power- Turaga Whenua had called it energized protodermis and warned him against searching for it. He ignored the village elder altogether, as the possible benefits outweighed all the risks.

Even if it means crawling through tunnels infested with dangerous beasts.

He suddenly wished he had brought along a friend or two- the cold, vast caverns were no place for any Matoran. According to the map of Onu-Wahi, he should have found some energized protodermis by now, and he doubted he had taken any wrong turns.

Curse me for being such a fool, why didn't I listen to Whenua?

He turned around, heading in the direction to Onu-Metra, only to stop right in his tracks. A group of serpent-like creatures passed by, and each had a row of jagged spines on their backs, and easily eight feet tall. He gasped. They were heading right for Onu-Metra! There were easily two dozen of them, and they could easily reduce the village of earth into dust in mere seconds. This was extremely unusual- the villages were usually left untouched as long as the rulers got what they wanted, be it Matoran slaves, Kanohi Masks of power, or even information. Judging by the assembly of evil heading towards the village, it was pretty clear Turaga Whenua had not given in to their demands.

Maybe he's found energized protodermis, that's why. Whatever it is it must be important enough for him to risk the entire village over.

He ran back to Onu-Metra, with the beasts not even caring to stop him. Not that they wanted to spare him or anything, but it was far easier to crush everyone at once. Spotting the gates of Onu-Metra, he signalled them to open, and was immediately confronted by a guard.

"Onepu?" he asked, surprised. "What are you doing out of Onu-Metra? Do you know how dangerous it is?"

"Taipu,I need to see Turaga Whenua now! It is important, we're under attack!"

"Attack? Are you serious?" Taipu responded, in shock.

He opened the gates and right after it shut, he blew a horn, signalling an emergency. In minutes about a few dozen Matoran had gathered at the gates, all armed and anticipating the threat. Onepu, meanwhile, had gone to find Turaga Whenua. He burst into the elder's hut without even caring to knock, in such panic that he was in.

Whenua, a bit surprised at Onepu bursting in, asked, "What is it, Onepu? What is of such grave importance that you must knock down the door and half of Onu-Metra?"

"We're under attack, Turaga, by a dozen of those serpent-like creatures!"Onepu said. "And why are they even attacking us? Is there not an agreement to be honoured?"

"As to be expected of evil beings, they have betrayed us."Whenua answered."We have told them and given them everything they wanted, what could they need?"

"Then what can we do now Turaga?"

"We have no choice, young one, but to meet with them in battle and defend our village." Whenua answered, with steel in his voice. "Onepu, Onu-Metra might not survive this attack, and I need you to inform the other Turaga of this. Take Pewku, and head to the other villages. Go!"

Onepu promptly left the hut, in search of the Ussal crab, Pewku. Ussal crabs were one of the few species of Rahi which were not under control of evil nor hostile, and made great steeds. After witnessing Onepu leave through the back entrance of Onu-Metra, Whenua joined the Matoran gathered at the gates, prepared to meet their foes. The creatures wasted no time in destroying the gate, with a blast of heat vision searing it into pieces. The Matoran rode bravely into battle, knowing that half of them would not make it. The battle raged on as the villagers bravely fought against the beasts, even taking down one, but anyone could tell they were fighting a losing battle. Heat vision, plasma, electricity, tore through their ranks, injuring several. Whenua had gotten pinned to a wall by one, but surprisingly it did not have any intent of killing him. Instead, it spoke, and its voice was as cold as its metallic armor, and it chilled Whenua to the bone.

"You have betrayed the agreement. You were suppose to tell us of everything you knew- but you did not."it hissed.

"I have not done anything wrong! I have told you all that I know, what more could you want?" Whenua cursed.

"Don't lie. How could you not know the legend of the... Toa." it snarled.

"But those are just legends." he replied.

Unless the Toa truly have awoken. Maybe not all hope is lost.

Somehow, he knew he was right. And somewhere deep in the tunnels of Onu-Wahi, a being awakened. His name was Wairuha, Toa of Earth. And he had a destiny to fulfill.

Chapter IV

He stared out of the window, visibly disturbed. He had just sent four Rahkshi to check out a canister in Le-Wahi, and none of them had returned. He dreaded what it could mean. Certainly no Matoran would be able to or dare to bring down a whole group of them. Sure, in times past maybe a few were defeated, but it took near a dozen Matoran to do so, and those were weak Rahkshi. But this squad- they were all Rahkshi of higher levels, stage three or stage four Rahkshi. The inevitable answer was that the Toa had awakened, and were here to stop them. But what were the odds? It had been centuries since he and five others, were sent to this island and conquered it. He did not care for the suits of armor that were the Rahkshi, but whatever managed to take out four of them- it could pose a serious threat to them. To be on the safe side- he had to make sure that the Toa had to be destroyed. He would even see to it. Walking down to the underground chamber, he reached inside a tank, of which several slug-like creatures were in, and picked one out, studying it. It squirmed in his grip, and tried to escape. He dropped it back inside the tank, visibly pleased.

Ah, it was soon that the Kraata would be ready to operate the Rahkshi. Their evolution was almost complete- they were reaching the seventh and final stage- and would be near impossible to defeat. Tarahn laughed, a horrible inhumane sound which could chill the hearts of the Matoran.

Let's see if the Toa can protect them.

***
The vast ocean, an endless mass of blue. Ga-Matoran used to frequently swim in it, but that was centuries ago. If so, then who was right in the middle of its wake? She herself did not know, all that she knew was that right in the waves, she felt at home, as if part of it. If she could she would let herself be carried off by the endless ocean currents, but she had many questions to answer. She had awoken not too long ago, and nearly drowned in the sea, but after putting on a mask, she now had the ability to breathe underwater. She surfaced to observe her surroundings, and in the distance she saw a village. It wasn't a conventional village- firstly, it was in varying shades of bright green. Her interest piqued, she swam towards it. Nearing it, she realized all the huts were made of leaves, and even the village was on particularly large leaves itself.

Stepping onto the village, she noticed it wasn't much like one at all- for one, there were no inhabitants at all to be seen, and was more like a ghost town. She unlimbered both her hydro blades, preparing to face the worst. On her way here she had encountered quite a few dangerous rahi, but she managed to easily outwit them and make her way to safety. She scanned her surroundings once more. There was nothing of note, except for a rather large and worn sign reading, "Welcome to Ga-Metra!"

She entered a nearby hut, observing that for what appeared to be a deserted village- its inhabitants had only left mere moments ago.

Either that or they're just hiding somewhere...

She exited the hut and headed towards another, the largest in the village. She tried to open the door- but it was bolted shut. Undeterred, she swung her blades at it, and it burst open. She stepped inside it, only to be met with a blow to the head. She slipped to the ground, unconscious.

***

"Who is she?" a matoran asked.

Mere moments ago, the Ga-matoran had the shock of their lives, with someone breaking down the door. Quick action had saved them, but from what? A group of Matoran now surrounded the unconscious body of the stranger, who was nothing like any of them. For one, she was much taller, and clad in armor in hues of silver and blue. The stranger did not look like any of the Rahkshi either- and certainly was not one of the Rahi beasts.

It seemed that power radiated from her in every sense of the word- and the Matoran almost felt calmed by her presence, despite squads of Rahkshi patrolling the village and the surrounding areas.

"What is it, Matoran? What have you all found?"

The group of villagers parted to let Turaga Nokama, village elder of Ga-Metra, to pass through. Upon seeing the unconscious being, her eyes widened in shock.

"This.. this cannot possibly be!" she said, astounded. "This... this is a-"

"A what, Turaga?" a villager said, cutting her off.

"This is... a Toa." she said, to a chorus of gasps, 'oohs' and 'aahs'.

Turaga Nokama had never believed the legends would come true. She had all but accepted that the Toa were to never arrive to save Metra Nui. But here it was, the very evidence that the legends had not deserted them, that hope was not lost.

The Toa stirred, slowly waking.

"Where..where am I?" she asked.

"You are here, Toa, in Ga-Metra." Nokama responded.

"G-Ga Metra?" she responded. "Toa? What is a Toa?"

"The Toa, as the legends foretold, are six heroes wielding elemental powers, and are said to arrive on the island to save the Matoran at Metra-Nui's darkest hour." Nokama answered.

"Six heroes? There are others then?" she asked.

"Yes, a Toa, with each one hailing from a different village, with you being the Toa of water."

"So.. what am I supposed to do?" she replied. "I think what we have to is simply far more than just... attacking this darkness and hoping to triumph."

"You are wise, Toa, and it shows in your thinking. To be able to bring down this evil, your elemental powers are not enough. According to legend, you must find the six keystones in order to unlock what is said to be able to defeat even the darkest evil." Nokama answered.

"These keystones- where are they?" the Toa inquired, getting up.

"It is said one is hidden in each Wahi, Toa, but take heed- your powers are still raw and untested, and the Rahkshi might be too powerful for you to overcome. I suggest you find the Kanohi masks first- they will grant you different powers to aid you in your quest."

"Just a question... what exactly, is a Rahskhi?"

A blast of energy rocked the hut, shattering a wall. Some Matoran ducked in fear, the others readied their weapons.

"I fear, Toa, you have just found out."

Standing where the wall used to be were the fearsome Rahkshi, a whole group of the serpent-like creatures.

"You say that I am a Toa- meant to protect the Matoran. Well, now it's time to prove it." She began to swing her blades, generating a powerful burst of water that knocked the creatures back.

She may not have known her name, but she knew her duty- to protect the Matoran.

"Turaga!" she shouted, over the roaring waves she had made. "Get the Matoran to safety, I will deal with them!"

Nokama answered yes, only to be drowned out by the sound of rushing water. She gathered the Matoran, and they all exited through a back entrance. Seeing the Matoran move to safety, she once more focused on her opponents. One had easily been knocked out, and she was now facing three.

She grinned. "Now it's time to show you the real might of the Toa!"

And in one swift movement, Toa Nireta struck the creatures with the intensity of a tidal wave.
