Chapter 2: Moving out

“They drowned last night?” Casull asked one of the bystanders on the beachfront in his own unique brand English.

“Yes, three college students swimming last night, not come back. They gear found in water this morning, police divers look for them.” The bystander sighed before continuing in his accented English. “Sad. I think they Tokyo U Students. Wasted talent.”

Zhang Miao nodded as she sipped her coke. “Come on, let’s get a closer look. A burst of demonic energy was reported here last night. This could be it.”

Closely observing the recovery efforts from he beach were Motoko and Tsuroko Aoyama, who had also received notice of unusual activity surrounding the deaths. As they were discussing the various situations in which demons might choose to manifest themselves, a great outcry came from one of the police boats conducting the search. A diver had just emerged from the water, gesturing hysterically at something below him. One of the sailors tossed him a line, and he dove back under. A few moments later, he re-appeared, and the police boat started hauling up something from beneath the water.

Motoko gasped as she saw what the police dragged up, and even Tsuroko lost her calm demeanor. Tied to the other end of the rope was the body of a dead diver, one of those that had participated in the search. His mask was torn off his face, dangling about his neck. Clutching onto him were the long dead bodies of three young men, their expressions horrifying and chilling with death.

The same thought went through the mind of everyone present:

“How could dead men drown a diver?”
