Chapter 30: Breaking Loose

The chilling cold of the desert night stood in stark contrast to the searing heat of the day. powerful gusts of wind shaped and re-shaped the endless sand dunes populating the desert. In a crude sort of valley between the dunes, the remains of the Knights took refuge from the searching eyes of pursuing demons.

“Casull hasn’t reported back in a while now.” Motoko observed nerviously, glanced at the section of the desert Casull had gone to scout.

“Give him some more time, I’m sure he hasn’t run away again or anything,” one of the soldiers remarked, raising a pair of binoculars to his eye. “Or maybe he has. That would be such a great loss to our war effort, Casull disappearing.”

Motoko decided not to reply, and lay her exhausted body down in the war sand. The cool night breeze of the desert relaxed her body. It had been so long since she had enjoyed a proper rest.... in bed.... with sheets...

Motoko suddenly realized that she was sleeping, and responded by jerking open her eyes. Her first reaction was to wish that they had remained closed. The bodies of several soldiers lay scattered around the camp, and the survivors –Casull among them- were tied up along with her in the middle of the camp. Demons surrounded the prisoners, leering and jesting. A blood soaked Siegfried was restrained at the other side of the mass of prisoners, and was reciting a long list of curses he had originally compose for Casull at them. At last, though, the demons guarding them grew weary of the seemingly endless outburst , and one of them punched Siegfried so hard that he flew up in the air and landed on the Casull’s side.

Casull, meanwhile, was laughing with glee inside, not the least because of Siegfried’s misfortune, though he found that satisfying as well. Siegfried seemed to be soaked in a large amount of demon’s blood. All the better for Casull.

Casull slowly bent over and bit down on Siegfried’s shoulder, sucking out as much blood as possible from the jacket Siegfried was wearing. Siegfried turned sheet white as he realized what Casull was planning, and rolled as far away as possible when Casull let go.

“Casull-can, are you ok?” Motoko yelled. Casull looked like he was violently ill from what he had done; he was twitching and moaning on the ground, like a man with sever fever.

Casull felt like he would die; he was disoriented and dizzy; his spirits were high and low at the same time; his head felt like it was going to go left and right all at once. his breathing accelerated to inhuman speeds, his heart beat on and on, faster and faster.
A fierce burning heat arose in the pit of his stomached, and spread though his being.

Suddenly, his entire being was engulfed in a pitch black flame that burned the ropes binding him away into ashes. Casull laughed and turned to face his captors.

As he turned around, Motoko caught a glimpse of his face, twisted with hate and sadistic pleasure, like some angry god ready to pass his judgment on those who had slighted him. This was not Casull, was it?
