so put your hands down my pants, and I bet you'll feel nuts

If I play for more than like, 8 hours, I get so frustrated I'm prone to breaking something.

there've been plenty of similar stories like these, especially from the Far East. If you had something important in your life, BobCat, that would surely count as another addiction?

I've never heard of anything on this scale being done before -_-

It takes a lot of endurance to play a game for that long... unfortunately, it's too much for any body to handle...

Define addiction, Bobcat. If it's a conditioned impulse to prioritise one thing over all others, then they'd count. Can it not be said that a workaholic is addicted to their career? A family man addicted to spending time with family? A faithful addicted to his relationship with God?

that was kinda my point, I think. If it feels like something you can't do without, then it'd be an addiction, wouldn't it?

But that's not the point of this. It's a really moving tribute to stupidity. It's a shame that addiction can take over people's lives, and yes, sometimes video games get bad press for things like this, but that person died and there were literally thousands of people who mourned her.

I do not know what that is, False, probably just a typo on the site. <_<

The third can easily be misinterpreted as anything can be habitually occupied (like an ordinary job, not workaholism)

Either which way, the definition you set out doesn't fit what is commonly known as an addiction.

I doubt a family man is "addicted" to spending time with his family.  That's more of a "I love my family and want to be with them" thing  (something unselfish) rather than the addict who loves the addiction causing substance only because it does something for them (selfish)

Same can be said about one's relationship with God.

I see no misinterpretation. The literal meaning is there to see. It may not fit in with the others, but it is still there and it still applies. Also, you consider "wanting to be with your family" to be unselfish because you do not see it as self-serving, correct? And an addiction must be self-serving. Have you considered that while of benefit to others, it also benefits the protagonist? The fact it helps others does not negate the benefits you receive.

And a person's faith is one of the easiest to relate to an addiction. It's just a parallel that is avoided like the plague due to all the negative connotations. I have seen many faithful whose relationship with God often leaves them elated, or at least at peace with all around them. Funnily enough, the only others I've ever seen like that are junkies. Next time you see someone having a crisis of faith, take a good look. Everytime I've seen it, they've looked like they're going through withdrawal. And before you cry foul, it does have its benefits, so no matter how pure it may look, it can become an addiction and it often does.

An addiction is not necessarily a horrible thing, however it leads to extremes which can lead to horrible things. Just because something seems wholesome and pure does not mean that one cannot become addicted to it. Anyway, we've gotten perhaps a little too off-topic. This is perhaps a discussion that belongs in its own thread. Back to the little girl who played to death. See, there's a good example of true dedication
