I'm about to take my first tentative steps into the world of opensource. I've got myself a spare computer, and want to install a Linux system on it. Anyone here recommend a good system for a Linux noob?

I'm going for Knoppix first off... LiveCDs are a great way to test an OS without going through the pain of an installation >< Then if all goes well, next on the agenda will be an installable OS... SUSE or Red Hat seem good bets It's just to get a feel for a different system
Not planning on networking it, either (don't have the kit, so I see meself getting through a few CDs. I'm looking forward to this

I'll try anything, selo. Any recommendations, any tips, hints or comments are welcome
It's not often I dive into a new OS, so any experience anyone else may have would be helpful

*bump-update* the install was a success, but not a complete one. By this I mean it went on perfectly well (it too yonks, obviously, but it got there), but I've not really had the time to explore it fully yet. To be honest I've not got past Frozen Bubble  Work's been impinging on my free time quite spectacularly over the past couple weeks, so maybe now wasn't the best time to try this experiment. On the plus side though, I have a week off soon, so I'll have more time to fiddle Formatting and partitioning was something I've only really ever given cursory thought to in the past on Windows systems, so I was pleased to have to put some though in to this bit. Partitions by sectors is a mite more challenging than just lumping in 4Gb, 4Gb, 10Gb like I usually do
