Days 21 - 40 | News Day 34 - The Grizzlies and the Supersonics have agreed to a trade.
Vancouver gets: SG Detlef Schrempf and Seattle's 1996 1st round draft selection.
Seattle gets: C Eric Montross and Vancouver's 1996, 1997 and 1998 2nd round selections.
Days 21 - 40 | Results Day 21 - Grizzlies 94, Kings 85 Good home win for us, and a great performance by Chris Gatling (30/9/7). Big Country added 16 and 13. The key for us was fouls. We played smart and loose and didn't draw too many of them. This is how I'd like us to play all the time, but we only seem to put it together like this on occasion.
Day 22 - Bucks 108, Grizzlies 83 Tough loss before we head out on the road. We couldn't buy a basket tonight, shooting 38%. We were also out rebounded by 13, and the only good thing was the play of Bryant, who went for 24 and 12 in the loss. The kid has been good for us so far, and we've got some foundation to build on, but we are seriously lacking in the guard and small forward areas, and it shows.
Day 23 - Trailblazers 113, Grizzlies 82 We turned the ball over 17 times in this loss, and there have started to be rumblings about some type of a change when we have another off day. I know the draft this off season has some very good looking players in it, but there is no way I am going to sit around and waste a year trying to shoot for something. That just isn't my style.
Day 24 - Grizzlies 91, Jazz 84 One of the ugliest games I've ever had the pleasure to see, the Jazz looked a lot better, but just played sloppy. 17 turnovers (13 coming off of steals) and 22 team fouls made this one easier for us than it should have been. Greg Anthony was player of the game with 12/6/8/3. Not bad for a guy that just a day ago had thinly veiled threats being sent his way...
Day 25 - Grizzlies 75, Timberwolves 73 If not for some amazing 3 point shooting by Minnesota, we would have walked away with an easy win. They shot 50% until late in the fourth when it all fell apart, and we kept our composure in the face of miraculous shot after miraculous shot. Greg Anthony walked away with player of the game honors again with 7/8/11/3. When wants to, he really kicks it in to over drive. Gatling has 22 and 15, and Big Country, had a pedestrian 7 and 7. 7 of the next 9 are on the road.
Day 26 - Magic 95, Grizzlies 76 I'm not sure where we lost this game, but lose we did. Both teams had problems with turnovers, both were even in rebounding and fouls. But when it mattered, they were able to score more in the paint, and we had to rely more on outside offense, something we just aren't very adept at. Gatling led the way for us again with 18 and 9.
Day 27 - Off
Day 28 - Grizzlies 98, Bulls 96 Wow. I don't know who to praise more. Chris Gatling had an amazing game, scoring 30 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Pippen and Jordan had their normal amazing games for the Bulls. But Greg Anthony has stepped his game up so much in the last few days, I can't even believe it. His 12 points were needed, and his 4 rebounds and 4 steals were welcome additions. His 20 assists, on the other hand, are out of this world. He seemed to just cut apart Chicago's defense with the adept hand of some kind of basketball surgeon. Great win, and all in all, our team is starting to mesh and play very well.
Day 29 - Grizzlies 98, Mavericks 96 Greg Anthony opened the game hitting 4 threes in a row. Big Country had 24 points to lead us, including the game winner with about 2.6 seconds left on the clock. Great road win, and we seem to be rolling.
Day 30 - Off
Day 31 - Hornets 94, Grizzlies 88 Tough loss at home for us. It all came down to making our free throws. Often times when we lose, it's because we have a breakdown in the fundamental way the game is played.
Day 32 - Grizzlies 96, Spurs 87 We absolutely just out muscled the Spurs this game. Gatling was back to form with 35 and 15, and Greg Anthony continues to show why he's a top PG in the game right now, with 13 and 10. Great bounce back win for us on the road.
Day 33 - Jazz 103, Grizzlies 74 Like we bullied the Spurs previously, the Jazz bullied us. We were simply out maned at every turn of the game. We shot poorly (38%), we were out rebounded and we missed all the threes. Nothing like a 29 point loss to take all the wind out of your sails and remind you that you aren't as good as you thought you were.
Day 34 - Off Trade announced. See above for details.
Day 35 - Spurs 115, Grizzlies 79 This was too disgusting to talk about. I don't think this result is too indicative of anything other than we just added a new piece and it might take a while to figure out where he goes and what his role will be on this team. I can't say I'm a fan of the GM making the move, although Detlef is a scorer, and we can always use more points. I'll give it a few days before I pass final judgement.
Day 36 - Off
Day 37 - Grizzlies 109, Kings 99 Much better. Out three point shooting is still crap, but this is the kind of result I was looking for after adding another scorer to the team. Detlef scored 24 in 29 minutes of work, and Gatling had 28 and 12.
Day 38 - Pistons 109, Grizzlies 102 We played well, but faltered defensively down the stretch. We also got slightly out rebounded in the fourth, missing too many opportunities for easy put backs and giving up way too many second chance points. Greg Anthony had another stellar game for us though, with 22 points and 13 assists. Detlef had 21 in the loss.
Day 39 - Grizzlies 119, 76ers 115 ~ 2OT What a game. We were up big at halftime, and they stormed back in the third for 42 points. Things looked bad for us, but a solid fourth and a prayer sent it to over time. In the first OT we surged ahead before they fought back and hit the buzzer beater to tie it and send it to double OT. In the second extra frame, it was the rebounding and size of Bryant Reeves that made the difference. He finished with 18 points and 17 rebounds. Greg Anthony continued the streak of great games with a 19 point, 12 assist outing.
Day 40 - Off

Wow, Gheorghe Muresan must be on steroids or something. Those are sick numbers. I know he was in his 'prime' but those are ridiculous. Do the Bullets run inside or something? HOW IS THIS HAPPENING?
Also good trade. Getting an outside scorer and a 1st for a bench player is a good move for you. I still like Cristie for his D, but that was definitely a solid trade.

And it's funny, because after that trade, instead of Detlef replacing Christie in the starting lineup, I decided to have him start at SF for a bit. Just trying out some different things. The game wanted him to be the #1 option, but I an not going to replace Gatling at this point. He's been too good so far. Still, if we still have that losing record after the next go around, I might switch up after the all-star break.
And having two firsts in this coming draft is going to own ;)

Day 41 - 60 (+ ASW) Day 41 - Lakers 107, Grizzlies 96 We drop another one at home thanks to shoddy ball security and poor defense as the Lakers shoot 50% and 55% from 3.
Day 42 - Off
Day 43 - Grizzlies 113, Supersonics 97 Great win at home for us. We dominated in every facet of the game. Greg Anthony was the hero with 12 points and 13 assists.
Day 44 - Grizzlies 119, Clippers 96 Another home victory for us. Again we were dominant, and very unselfish. We had 35 team assists, with Greg Anthony leading the way with 13. Also had three players score over 20; Schrempf, Gatling and Reeves.
Day 45 - Supersonics 86, Grizzlies 70 Tought defensive game saw us come up short after starting slow in the second half. We shot 35% from the field. Not gonna win too many games when you do that. Probably won't win any...
Day 46 - Jazz 120, Grizzlies 91 We just couldn't stop the Jazz from scoring. We didn't play poorly, but everything they shot seemed to go in. They also out rebounded us 54 to 40. You also aren't gonna win very many games when that happens...
Day 47 - Off
Day 48 - Nuggets 114, Grizzlies 93 Third in a row on the road. We are getting killed during this stretch. Once again rebounds were key as they grabbed 59 to our 45. Gatling played well with 25 and 18, but thats where it ends. We need to get back home.
Day 49 - Mavericks 110, Grizzlies 99 1 man made the difference, and unfortunately it was George McCloud of the Mavericks and his 7 three pointers. The man was unreal out there. Two double double for us, one by Gatling, the other by Reeves.
Day 50 - Off
Day 51 - Celtics 124, Grizzlies 104 Three point shooting is killing us. The Celtics were 11 of 15 from downtown. And they out rebounded us by 13. A shame to waste a great performance by Greg Anthony who had 18 assists on the night. And Schrempf went down early in the game on a hard foul by Rick Fox. Hopefully he's ok.
News - Detlef is out for 5 days due to neck stiffness.
Day 52 - Off
Day 53 - Nuggets 98, Grizzlies 79 We really missed Det out there, but more than that is the fact that Mutombo just towers own in the paint. We played poorly throughout. I think we are nearing a point where we need to decide what direction we are going to head in for the rest of the season and start either making plans for a trade to compete, or plans for the draft.
Day 54 - Knicks 107, Grizzlies 79 It's getting ugly out there folks. The team seems to be completely deflated, and we really need to do something, but odds are it won't be until after the break. Reeves is a rookie, so he's pretty capable, but some of the older guys, and maybe some of the guys outperforming their talent are going to seem pretty expendable come moving time.
Day 55 - Rockets 96, Grizzlies 94 I don't understand how we could struggle so bad against some of the previous teams and then come out and hold our own with the Rockets, the cream of the western conference crop. Their fouls kept us in the game admittedly, and our rebounding helped, but they just had too much to overcome. We're about a week away from the All-Star game, and I will be shocked if I don't see Greg Anthony playing. Another double double night with 10 and 12.
Day 56 - Nuggets 109, Grizzlies 89 We were in this going in at half time, but coming out we responded poorly to the challenge, and Denver killed us. 43 in the third, and we were done. One promising thing of note; we made 100% of our free throws for the first time this season.
Day 57 - Spurs 91, Grizzlies 79 Pretty close game until the last 2 minutes. We kept it close even though we fought foul trouble and the Admiral. In the end he was just too much for us to handle. We're on a really bad slump. It feels like ages since we last won a game, as we've lost 10 in a row...
Day 58 - Grizzlies 96, Suns 92 The Suns nearly came back from a 28 point half time deficit to take this game, and if they had about 45 more seconds, they probably would have. We started out hot with Christie scoring 13 of his 20 in the first quarter, but the Suns kept chopping away and in the second half they completely used their superior bench and starters to whittle away at the lead. But hey, a win is a win and the losing streak is over.

Day 61 - 80 Day 61 - Off News: Trade rumors are heating up here in Vancouver. Vets like Byron Scott, Detlef Schrempf, Kenny Gattison and Blue Edwards might be dealt soon. There has also been talk of possibly dealing either Greg Anthony of Chris Gatling before the deadline if the team decides to completely aim for the coming draft.
Day 62 - Celtics 93, Grizzlies 88 Sloppy game by both teams featuring a lot of turnovers and a lot of fouls on our part.
Day 63 - Off
Day 64 - Off
Day 65 - Off
Day 66 - Grizzlies 105, Pistons 98 We made a few changes to our lineup, mixing a few things up, and we decided to focus more of getting Detlef the ball, as he's our best all around shooter. He didn't have a great game, but Gatling and Greg Anthony, fresh off the all-star snub, were the usual suspects in the win.
Day 67 - Off
Day 68 - Spurs 101, Grizzlies 77 We've gone back to the turnovers and poor shooting. This is game #2 with Schrempf as the offensive focus, and he's struggling. 15 points of 6 of 19 shooting. We're gonna go with this for one more game before we make some kind of decision.
Day 69 - Grizzlies 102, Trailblazers 100 Greg Anthony steals the ball with the game tied and 2 seconds left and hits the game winner. The guy is definitely one of the few reasons we have won any games. He deserved the all-star game nod and didn't get it. Detlef finally had a decent game shooting, 21 off 9 for 15.We had six guys score in double figures too. All in all I think we still need to tweak some things. 1 out of three games isn't promising, but I think he's earned a chance to even it up.
Day 70 - Grizzlies 97, Trailblazers 89 That was interesting. I decided before the game that we would press less, but run more on offense. We got the win, but not a big change on the stat lines. Detlef had another poor game, and signs are pointing towards him moving to the bench if not outright traded.
News: Chris Gatling has come down with the flu and is expected to miss all team activities for the next few days. Thats a huge blow for us as he's generally the source of most of the points we score. We only play 1 game in that span though, so might not be too bad.
Day 71 - Off
Day 72 - Lakers 108, Grizzlies 83 Well, Gatling being out really hurt, but he'll be back for the next one. We tried to be more of an outside shooting team against the Lakers this time out, and it really just didn't work. Detlef has been outright poor for us since we picked him up, and while there have been some preliminary talks, the general thought is that unless someone comes to us for a deal, we are gonna stick with the team we have and take our chances with the draft.
Day 73 - Off
Day 74 - Timberwolves 102, Grizzlies 81 Well, Gatling and Anthony had good games, everyone else sucked. We never got going this game, mainly due to the difference in foul calls against us. 19 to 5. Thats a huge difference there.
Day 75 - Grizzlies 113, Timberwolves 102 We were down big at half time, but we stuck with it and had a huge defensive fourth to eke out the win. Greg Anthony continues to prove that he is a cornerstone for this franchise with his 15 assists, and Chris Gatling fought through foul trouble to give us 21.
Day 76 - Clippers 109, Grizzlies 95 I've just come to the realization of two things. The first is that we absolutely have to start playing better defense. The second thing is that Detlef just isn't working out.
Day 77 - Off
Day 78 - Off
News: The Grizzlies announced today that they have completed the following trade: The Atlanta Hawks receive SG Doug Christie, SF Detlef Schrempf and the Grizzlies 1997 1st round draft selection.
The Grizzlies receive C Benoit Benjamin and the Hawks 1996 1st round selection.
Day 79 - Off
Day 80 - Grizzlies 91, Rockets 81 What if I told you we went big? An inside offense featuring Big Country (19/14), Benoit Benjamin (24/7) and Chris Gatling (12/5) with Greg Anthony (12 assists) just feeding it down low time after time seemed to work, at least for this game. We've got a little while to see how this latest experiment works, but I love the physicality of our team with BB in there.

Day 81 - 100 Day 81 - Off
Day 82 - Grizzlies 106, Knicks 74 Good lord this was bad for New York. They got tons of fouls, we forced several turnovers, and we had more boards than they did. On top of that, our big three had amazing nights. Gatling had 23 and 10, Reeves had 20 and 11, and Benjamin had 20 and 9.
Day 83 - Mavericks 74, Grizzlies 71 Lost a tough ugly game at home thanks to really bad play all around. Both teams were bad, but we were a little worse, and the difference was free throws. We shot 50% while Dallas hit 100% of theirs.
Day 84 - Off
Day 85 - Off
Day 86 - Off
Day 87 - Off
Day 88 - Off
Day 89 - Off
Day 90 - Grizzlies 88, Timberwolves 76 The greatest thing about this new lineup is that it forces the other team to take more outside shots. In the case of Minnesota, they shot 35%, which led to a relatively painless win for us. Greg Anthony is continuing to prove he's one of the best point guards today, with 16/9/12.
Day 91 - Nets 90, Grizzlies 89 I really expected to win this game, but we started slow and just couldn't over come the poor execution and shooting in the first half. We played great in the second though, and if we had a few more seconds, we probably would have picked up the road win.
Day 92 - Bulls 105, Grizzlies 87 When you play the best team and the best player in the NBA, thats a true test of where you are yourselves. An 18 point loss says a lot about us as a franchise, but when you dig a little deeper into the numbers, it was a pretty close game. The only difference was the number of fouls, and the fact that Chicago was able to hit some threes while we were unable to hit any of them. The losses hurt, but honestly, each one gets us closer to a top pick in the lottery. And MJ had 32/10/8...
Day 93 - Rockets 94, Grizzlies 88 We dominated this game in every area but two. We out rebounded Houston 53 to 37, we shot better, and they had less free throw attempts. Sadly for us, turnovers killed us, and we made only 67% of our free throws. We held Houston to under 40% shooting for most of the game, but as any strong team does, they battled through and found a way to win. Thats something we need to learn to do.
Day 94 - Off
Day 95 - Grizzlies 90, Jazz 88 Another tough game, but one we managed to hang on and win. Bryant Reeves made the go ahead bucket with only 2 seconds left on a beautiful pass from Anthony. We held Utah to 37% and they only shot 16% from 3. I'm sure this would have been a different game had some of those shots fallen like they usually do. But I'm not gonna complain about beating one of the best teams in the NBA.
Day 96 - Off
Day 97 -Hawks 116, Grizzlies 106 When the other team shoots close to 60% or better for most of the game, and picks your pocket 13 times, it's going to be nearly impossible to win on the road. Detlef had a great game for the Hawks, scoring 31. Good to see he found a fit because he just wasn't working out here. Greg Anthony had yet another great game, and will be our MVP of the season if he just continues doing what he does. 14 points and 18 assists is just greatness.
Day 98 - 76ers 98, Grizzlies 86 We had a complete and utter melt down tonight in the fourth quarter. The game was tied after three, and for a few minutes, we looked like we could pull out a great road win, but then we got sloppy, couldn't make shots, and broke down completely on defense. We got lazy out there, pure and simple.
Day 99 - Off
Day 100 (Trade Deadline) - Supersonics 90, Grizzlies 88 Another tough loss for us against a pretty good team. Bryant Reeves had a great game, something missing for a while. He had 21/13. We were seriously looking to trade away Benoit Benjamin for a shooting guard before the deadline, but we realized that after this season, with whoever we can get in the draft, we would be stronger next year if we just kept what we have now.

Day 101 - 120 (End of Regular Season) Day 101 - Grizzlies 99, Kings 92 Great home win for us. We got the job done at the line, and that was the difference. BB had 22 and 12, and Anthony had 14/9/11/5.
Day 102 - Nuggets 110, Grizzlies 89 Turnovers and rebounds are always areas we struggle with against the Nuggets, and this was not different. Big Country had 19 and 8 to lead us in the loss.
Day 103 - Lakers 76, Grizzlies 70 Tough defensive game, but we ended up on the short end of it. We actually outplayed LA and out defense was very impressive, but we shot only 36% on offense, and the Lakers out rebounded us by 20.
Day 104 - Off
Day 105 - Grizzlies 79, Bullets 64 Our offensive struggles continued, but our defense more than made up for it, completely stuffing Washington on offense. Big Country scored a game high 28 and added 8 rebounds in the win.
Day 106 - Pacers 87, Grizzlies 84 Very tough loss. We struggled again shooting the ball, but our defense was able to keep us in it after being down big at halftime. Greg Anthony got a triple-double for us (12 points, 11 rebounds, 12 assists), and we almost pulled off the come from behind upset, but fell slightly short.
Day 107 - Warriors 94, Grizzlies 93 Another heart breaker for us. Nice thing is that no one can accuse us of tanking the end of the regular seaosn when we keep getting close loses. Ha ha.....
Day 108 - Off
Day 109 - Bullets 89, Grizzlies 83 Bullets got their revenge on us. The game was similar to the one played on their home court, with the notable exception that they rarely traveled offensively into the teeth of our inside defense. That helped them down the stretch, and made the difference.
Day 110 - Grizzlies 98, Clippers 94 Great road win that saw an exciting fourth quarter. BB led the way with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. I think our draft position is starting to come into question right now. We've got our, the Sonics and the Hawks this year. Pre lottery, we have the #3, #8 and #24 picks in the 1st round.
Day 111 - Suns 109, Grizzlies 89 Not much to say. The Suns are likely headed to a Western Conference title berth while we wait for the lottery results.
Day 112 - Grizzlies 90, Magic 82 Good to see our guys just haven't given up on the season yet. Although word is that we are gonna be sitting some guys during the last couple of games to "prevent catastrophic and unnecessary injury". Swear to God thats what the memo said...
Day 113 - Cavaliers 110, Grizzlies 98 Game one of the GM's completely crazy plan to ensure we have the best odds available to get the #1 pick. I'm not a big fan of screwing with team chemistry and morale, especially in the inaugural season just to ensure better position for something we might even get. But I just coach the team.
Day 114 - Grizzlies 81, Rockets 79 This wasn't expected and I don't care. Great win for us over a title contender this year. Big Country had 16 and 16, Greg Anthony added another 13 assists, and we are having a pretty decent end to the season.
News: Blue Edwards is out for the next three days due to a nasty flu virus. I am hoping the trainers caught it in time to not affect the rest of the team.
Day 115 - Heat 95, Grizzlies 84 The Heat won on three point shooting as they made 40% to our 0%. Greg Anthony is setting the bar pretty high for future Grizzly PG's in our first year of existence as he added another 13 to an amazing yearly total.
Day 116 - Off
Day 117 - Off
Day 118 - Bucks 84, Grizzlies 83 This was like a playoff game for crappy teams. Neither if these teams has a whole lot left going for them except to get a good pick in the NBA draft. In the end, Blue Edwards missed the game winner as time expired, giving us a slight edge with a couple more days to go in the season.
Lottery Watch: #2, #9, #23
Day 119 - Raptors 91, Grizzlies 90 Regardless of what we are trying to do when it comes to the draft, I wanted this one. It's only natural that Toronto would be our rival, and I hated how we lost this one. Oliver Miller was fouled on a shot by Reeves with no time, sending him to the line tied at 90. He missed the first, rattled in the second, and sent us packing with another loss.
News: Chris King had to leave the game late in the second half with what is being described as a finger dislocation. Safe to say with one game left that his season is over.
Day 120 - Hornets 117, Grizzlies 98 We ended the season on one more Greg Anthony masterpiece, with 23 points and 13 assists. Looking past that towards the offseason, we have a couple roads of interest to take. First stop is the NBA Draft Lottery after a new NBA Champion is crowned.
