1999-2000 Regular Season | Days 1-20
Record: 20-8 (8-5) | 1st place, Midwest Division (4 up) Coaches Thoughts Not quite as hot as we began, but I'm not gonna complain too hard about being in first place still. We actually had some preliminary talks over a couple of days with the Houston Rockets about a trade involving center Hakeem Olajuwon. Apparently he feels we are championship bound, and he wanted to hop on board. I personally spoke with him and told him that I appreciated his comments but that we weren't on our way anywhere yet. I don't want to put all my eggs in that basket yet. We've got a lot of season, and although we are performing great, there's still room for improvement. We're not quite there defensively yet. In fact, we're in the middle of the road on almost all defensive categories. That needs to get better if we are even going to entertain the thought of advancing past the WCF this season.

1999-2000 Regular Season | Days 41-60 (All-Star Break)
Record: 30-10 (10-2) | 1st place, Midwest Division (9.0 up) Coaches Thoughts Even a 2 week long injury to Dirk couldn't keep us down. We seem to be rolling through the regular season now. There's only one thing that bothers me. The Houston Rockets. Houston just has our number. At this point, I'm just hoping they fall out of the playoffs completely. Looks like we gave them a little motivation with the Hakeem rebuff I guess. I mean, Olajuwon would be great, and I have no doubt he would make us better. But I'm not going to give up Grant Hill to prove that. By the way, over on the East side of the NBA, Kobe Bryant is leading the Pistons like a man possessed. It would be interesting to see a Kobe vs. AI finals, would it not?

1999-2000 Regular Season | Days 61-80
Record: 42-13 (12-3) | 1st place, Midwest conference (15.5 up) Coaches Thoughts Well, I'm running out of things to say. Allen Iverson has been on fire, coming off a great all start weekend. He's starting to realize this is his team. We're the second best offense in the NBA, behind the Warriors. We are scoring 101.5 a game, while allowing only 93. Thats the largest differential in the league. The only downer is that I just found out Bryant Reeves has a broken finger and will be out a few games. As we head into the trade deadline, things have been uncommonly quiet, I think it's a sign that for the first time in a while, I am comfortable and confident in this teams ability to stand tall through everything the rest of the season has to offer.

1999-2000 Regular Season | Days 81-100 (Trade Deadline)
Record: 51-16 (9-3) | 1st place, Midwest Division (16.5 up) Coaches Thoughts You know that saying? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Well, I think that saying was made for people without guts. I fought sentimentality a long time before I pulled the trigger on this one, but in the end, I had to do what I thought was best for us this season. This is the best chance we have to win a title, and things like loyalty are the first thing to go. So we traded away our franchises first ever draft pick. Bryant Reeves is gone. Packed off to Houston. In return we get quite possibly one of the best center's playing today. Thats right. We went out and got Hakeem Olajuwon. I know. I just sent a guy that has about 6-8 good years left in him off for a guy that is likely to call it quits after this year. But thats part of my reasoning. Hakeem is hungry. He knows this is his last chance at glory. This is his last shot at making something happen. Time will tell if this move makes me look like a genius or a fool.

1999-2000 Regular Season | Days 101-120 (End of Season)
Record: 61-21 (10-5) | 1st place, Midwest Division (21 up) Coaches Thoughts Well here we are. Playoffs. #1 seed. A lot of expectations. We have a lot to deliver on. There's a lot of historical significance riding on this run we are making. Everyone is healthy, the offense is firing on all cylinders, and the defense with Hakeem is looking pretty good. We have improved every season we have existed. That means we need to be playing for the title in a few weeks. It's that simple.

MVP: Hakeem Olajuwon (21.4 ppg, 12.6 rpg, 3.4 bpg) Coaches Thoughts Genius. We did it. I say down with Hakeem before the playoffs started. I told him flat out that this team would go as deep as he carried us. This is how he responded. We mowed through every round before facing a challenging Cleveland team built on speed and an outside shot. Every game but the first one was close. I was on edge for game 7. We were in control for most of the game, but never seemed to be able to put them away. They were able to hang in there, but shots by Hakeem and Allen sealed the game for us. In our fifth season as an NBA franchise, we made it to the top. No telling whats next for us. We've got some key guys that may become free agents, and a couple more that may just call it a career. |

New York Knicks select Kenyon Martin 10. Houston Rockets select Speedy Claxton 11. Chicago Bulls select Desmond Mason 13. Washington Bullets select Hedo Turkoglu 14. Phoenix Suns select Eddie House Free Agency -Day 1- The Grizzlies have come to terms with Allen Iverson and Steve Nash. We nabbed them both up immediately on max contracts. Say what you may, but these guys are worth it. What I am hurt about is Ben Wallace. Seemed like he had a great experience, and we offered him a very good contract. Instead he signed with Toronto for the MLE. -Day 2- We didn't get anyone, but we've got some offers out on some people. You'd think with the championship under our belt that we'd be attracting more people. -Day 3- Antoine finally decided to sign back with us. I was scared when Portland threw an offer in. He's slightly overpaid for a guy that will probably be coming off the bench, but when you're trying to repeat, you don't let a little thing like money stand in the way. -Day 4- Marcus Camby and Devin Thurmond signed on. Camby gives us a great option at center should Hakeem falter, and Devin will be a great backup to Nash. -Day 5- Centers. Olden Polynice, Benoit Benjamin, Will Perdue and Jamie Feick all signed on for the upcoming season. Obviously some of these guys won't be with the team on opening day, but hey, why not have an open competition? Training Camps Iverson improved his inside game, Nash worked on his passing, and Dirk, well, he's 7 feet tall and score from anywhere on the court. In other news, we made a trade. We sent Hakeem to the Bulls in exchange for Scottie Pippen. Scottie wants a chance to see if he can win one without MJ, and Hakeem didn't seem to mind going to a team that doesn't need him to start every single game. We released Dan Aridge and signed Terry Dehere and Avery Johnson.
Coaches Thoughts With Scottie coming over for what is likely a one-shot deal, Grant Hill was gracious enough to move into our key bench role. I'm looking for AI to make a serious run at the MVP and scoring title this year. Dirk should be dominant and stretch defenses, and Steve Nash is Canada's hero. Marcus Camby has some big shoes to fill, but I think he'll do so nicely. Overall, I think we have a great shot at the repeat, but time will tell. Prediction: 60-22 |

2000-2001 Regular Season | Days 1-20
Record: 11-4 (11-4) | 1st Place, Midwest Division (.5 up) Coaches Thoughts Well, our offense is amazing. AI and Dirk are averaging over 20 a game. Iverson could get close to 30 before all is said and done. Add to that the fact that we are outscoring opponents 108 to 94 and we look very solid indeed. couple of close loses in there that trouble me though. The Clippers played us tough last year, and in a 5 game series against them in the playoffs they were able to keep it close. If I were a betting man, and god forbid that I am, I'd say we'll be seeing them in the post season.

2000-2001 Regular Season | Days 21-40
Record: 19-5 (8-1) | 1st Place, Midwest Division (2.0 up) Coaches Thoughts 1 point separated us form being perfect this update. Toronto. They are taking it to the East right now, and Canada could get an all-Canada NBA finals this year. By the way, Lamar Odom of the Knicks is probably the most complete player in the game right now. B's all the way across with an A in handles. Crazy.
