Posted Image In the 1998 NBA draft, the LA Clippers selected C Michael Olowakandi out of Pacific university. As most NBA fans know, the 'Kandiman' never panned out and other members of the draft like Antwan Jamison, Paul Pierce & Dirk Nowitzki became All-Star players. Even Larry Hughes, Rafer Alston & Al Harrington, all taken much later, panned out. It was just another mistake in a long history of them for the Clippers. But what if it went different? What if the Clippers took one of the NBA's most exciting and gifted players. What if they grabbed an exciting young man who would play for his nation and provide some of the NBA's most memorable moments? What if they picked Vince Carter? Let's find out. |

1998 Free Agency: Day 1: - Vancouver Grizzlies sign SG Eddie Jones to a 6 Year 82 million dollar deal - Milwaukee Bucks sign PG Damon Jones to the MLE - Indiana Pacers sign C Vitaly Potapenko to the MLE We didn't get my main target, Terrell Brandon. Also he seems to be getting some pretty heavy offers. We've decided to shift to the biggest name in Free Agency, Stephon Marbury. The young PG has already shown he's a great player in Minnesota & if we can snatch him away I will feel very good about this backcourt for a long time to come. Day 2: - LA Lakers sign PG Terrell Brandon to a 6 year 71 million dollar deal - Minnesota Timberwolves sign PG Stephon Marbury to a 6 year 80 million dollar deal So there goes our two targets. We might switch gears as the major FA players have emptied there banks so we could get Elden Campbell on the cheap. The veteran would help us up front although we are still a big question mark at PG. I've also sent a 1 year deal to J.R. Reid, a good defending big. Day 3: - LA Clippers sign C J.R. Reid to a 1 year, 2.5 million dollar deal - Minnesota Timberwolves sign SF Sam Mack to a 2 year 3.8 million dollar deal So we got our back-up plan, but we still want to add Elden to this team. Day 4: - San Antonio Spurs sign PF Elden Campbell to a 4 year, 21 million dollar deal - Atlanta Hawks sign C Jamie Feick to the MLE - Golden State Warriors sign SG Mikel McGuire to a two year 3.1 million dollar deal - Boston Celtics sign SG Jay McIlvaine to a 2 year 3.1 million dollar deal - Sacramento Kings sign PF Tim Thomas to the LLE *Facepalm*. So we will now be looking at Andrew DeClercq, AKA Plan Z. Not exactly the FA splash I had hoped for, but at this point he'll have to do. Day 5: - LA Clippers sign PF Andrew DeClercq to a 3 year, 4.9 Million dollar deal So we get DeClercq, but this should still end up a pretty long year. We will see. |

Los Angeles Clippers Posted Image So right off the bat, you can see where we have issues. The rebounding on this team leaves something to be desired and the offense will pretty much be a two man show of Lamond Murray and the #1 overall draft pick, Vince Carter. Just behind them will be starting Point Guard Darrick Martin whose handling is just awful for someone in his position. It could be a long year, but given our total lack of options VC could win ROY based on being our best offensive tool. Starting Line-up: C - J.R. Reid PF - Lorenzen Wright SF - Vince Carter SG - Lamond Murray PG - Darrick Martin Bench: C/PF Andrew DeClercq SF Tyrone Nesby SF/SG Eric Piatkowski PG Troy Hudson C Keith Closs PF Brian Skinner SG/PG Charles Smith Edited by Hajjhowe, Jun 20 2010, 04:46 PM.

Posted Image Month 1 Results Clippers 94 - Cavaliers 77 - A pretty surprising start to be honest. Big Z tore us up but we used the trio of J.R. Reid, VC & Lorenzen Wright to lead our scoring while shutting down most of their other threats. Only Z 7 Shawn kemp really hurt us. Clippers 91 - Hawks 69 - Rookie Vince Carter lead us here with 22 points and 6 rebounds as we handled the Hawks at home and only let Dikembe Mutumbo 7 Steve Smith score on us. Wright, DeClerq & Reid all chipped in while Darrick martin just limited his turnovers. Spurs 99 - Clippers 84 - A bit of a reality check as we go on the road against the gifted Spurs and get beat. The twin towers combined for 69 points on us while Elden Campbell (And SF) added 17. We just got bullied inside and while Reid & VC had solid scoring outings again, I can't say their defense matched it. Timberwolves 85 - Clippers 81 - A tough home loss as once again the opposing front court (Joe Smith & Dean Garrett) tore us up. Lorenzen Wright lead us with 17 points but Vince could only score 14 and nobody else seemed to do much. Lamond Murray has been a very disappointing player so far with less then 10 points a game. We will look to change that now. Lakers 102 - Clippers 91 - Lorenzen got a tough smack in the head from Travis Knight that will leave him out for a few days. This time we had the backcourt duo of Kobe Bryant & Terrell Brandon tear us up with 41 points while the aforementioned Knight also got 22. VC lead us with 21 but got little to no help elsewhere. Warriors 92 - Clippers 85 - In his first start Andrew DeClercq impressed with 20 points, but we were just overmatched and a steady diet of shots from 5 different warriors beat us. VC had his worst scoring night with just 8 points on 3/12 shooting, but did grab 11 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 blocks and 6 assists with just 1 turnover. He's really a special player. Clippers 77 - Warriors 71 - This was an ugly, low scoring affair that saw us win despite our leading scorer having 13 points and us getting out rebounded. Donyell marshall aside we managed to shut the Warriors down and an ugly win is still a win. VC only had 6 but showed his many skills again. Clippers 98 - Mavericks 67 - Domination. No Dallas player scored more than 15 while VC, Lamond Murray & DeClercq all scored well. We out rebounded them by 20 and just were running on all cyclinders. Raptors 86 - Clippers 67 - A total lack of offense saw us manhandled as Michael Olowokandi had 22 points and 20 rebounds with Kevin Willis chipping in 17 points of his own. We shot terribly and were just out muscled all game long by the Toronto players. Maverick 85 - Clippers 71 - Another weak offensive display saw us beaten by Dallas. We had no answer for PF Gary Trent who dropped 26 on us as we were just beaten. Terrible game. Clippers 87 - Jazz 79 - A pretty big upset for us as we managed to knock off Utah. As one would expect Karl Malone killed us for 34 points but we kept everyone else under control and got steady scoring from Lamond Murray, Vince Carter & Darrick Martin. Our rebounding won us the game, that's for sure. Clippers 85 - Timberwolves 73 - VC exploded for 31 points and also snatched 13 rebounds as we bounced Minnesota. KG & Dean Garrett played very well but as we usual do when we win the team managed to shut down the non-big's and we again managed to get more boards. So 1 month in and surprisingly we are 6-6 and the 8th seed. VC has been our best player but he's had scoring help from Reid, Wright, DeClercq and Murray. Darrick Martin has been consistent and good on D as has our whole team. We have the 4th best PPG against right now and the defense is keeping us in the playoff picture. I don't know if I will make any trades yet, so we will have to wait and see how this team does next month. Sim Record: 6-6 Overall Record: 6-6 8th place overall, 2.0 GB in Pacific Team leaders: PPG: Vince Carter 16.0 RPG: Andrew DeClercq 9.7 APG: Darrick Martin 5.1 SPG: J.R. Posted Image Month 2 Results Clippers 87 - Bulls 77 A solid home W as Vince lead the way with 27 points on an overwhelmed Rick Fox. Our D again showed it's skill here. Clippers 90 - Grizzlies 88 A come from behind victory here. We were trailing heading into the final frame but come clutch time we turned it up and at the end of the day we won and were lead by our three pronged attack of J.R. Reid, Lorenzen Wright and or course Vince Carter. The only downside is once again their PF (Shareef Abdur-Rahim) burned us for 23 points. 76ers 96 - Clippers 79 We were dominated, mostly by Allen Iverson. It was almost a triple double as Iverson scored 23 points while also dishing out 9 assists, grabbing 7 rebounds and just feeding Theo Ratliff & Matt Geiger all game long. A tough break after two nice wins. Clippers 88 - Sonics 87 Another come from behind W, this time on the road. Seattle seemed well in control for the early portions of the game before Lorenzen Wright turned it up and showed some heart in leading us to a come from behind win. A big one and this month has been nice to use so far. Mavericks 101 - Clippers 79 A rare triple digit score against us as the big men of Dallas just scored inside and will. Gary Trent got 18 points while Shawn Bradley grabbed 15 rebounds during this rout. VC had 16 points and Wirght had a double double in the loss. Clippers 111 - Suns 94 A high scoring affair by our standards as VC, Wright & Reid lead us to another nice home victory. Tom Gugliotta burned us bad but we held on and a big edge in the boards saw us to victory over a divisional rival here. Jazz 107 - Clippers 70 With only 1 game between us and first place, we didn't show much and were wiped by the Jazz here. Karl Malone again dominated, just scoring at will on Lorenzen Wright, Andrew DeClercq and anyone else we tried to throw at him. Their D also suffocated us forcing 19 turnovers and us shooting a dreadful 26 of 72. Jazz 113 - Clippers - 104 Better, but not what we really wanted. We managed to slow Malone to 'just' 19 points while also having VC & Lorenzen Wright grab 20+ themselves. Still a loss is a loss and hopefully we get someone easier soon. Trailblazers 93 - Clippers 82 A rough loss as Walt Williams & Rasheed Wallace just beat us down. Only VC decided to show up on offense with 17 points and despite out rebounding Portland 52-38 we still lost by 9 points. This was just a weird loss. Celtics 74 - Clippers 70 How we got this close, I have no idea. This was two teams who couldn't shoot and grabbed a combined 108 rebounds. I'm upset we lost, but we didn't really deserve to win either. Clippers 83 - Cavaliers 81 A game that went down to the wire ended when Darrick Martin made two big Free Throws and Derek Anderson missed to give us a road win here. DeClercq, Lorenzen & Wright lead our scoring while Shawn Kemp had 28 points, but no win. Clippers 97 - 76ers 72 Our best win possibly all year as we shot close to .500 and caused 22 turnovers. Only Matt Geiger seemed to be able to score consistently on us as we breezed past Philly to end our up and down month. Another month where we break even. It really makes my job hard when I can't choose a real direction. Is this team really ready for the playoffs and should I make a move towards that? Should we maybe try to get some draft picks and wait things out? It's a little early to tell, but I would say we are performing above expectations. We should get a better feel for where we stand when it's All-Star time. Hopefully things will be more clear for us than. Sim Record: 6-6 Overall Record: 12-12 10th Overall, 0.5 GB 8th, 6.0 GB Lakers Team leaders: PPG: Vince Carter 16.5 RPG: Lorenzen Wright 8.9 APG: Darrick Martin 4.8 SPG: J.R. Posted Image Month 3 Mavericks 84 - Clippers 69 - My new Inside focus didn't yield good immidiate results as we lost big here. Gary Trent & Michael Finley had their way with us for 43 points combined and we had little on offense other than VC. Hopefully we look better next time out. Clippers 101 - Lakers 87 - We got a big win over our LA rivals here as our D really stepped up only letting Shaq (25/15/6/4/1) dominate while we spread the love amongst our good inside shooters. Important win in the division as well. Warriors 93 - Clippers 84 - This was closer than the final score, as we only really lost this late. Still not fun to lose, especially to an in-state divisional rival. I am starting to think about some possible moves. We could really use a better PG if we expect a post-season appearance and our inside offense leaves Lamond Murray's use a bit more limited. Clippers 102 - Trailblazers 80 - A big win in our current up and down trend. Reid, Wright, VC & DeClercq again lead our offense with only Walt Williams really causing us any major problems. We were looking to upgrade at PG, but most team around the league were asking for more than I was willing to give up. Clippers trade SF Tyrone Smith for PF Joe Smith - So this was too good to pass up. Joe has been pretty good this year and the former #1 overall pick is a good fit for our current inside offense. Tyrone will be missed due to his potential, but Joe is already putting up almost 20 points a game in Minnesota and should do even better in a inside offense. Hornets 81 - Clippers 80 - Ugh, a tough back and forth loss here. It was team basketball for both sides as no one player took the glory. The defense was solid and it was an exciting one to watch, just wish we would have won. Nets 92 - Clippers 89 - This is getting painful. We had the lead late, but the Nets got 33 4th quarter points to pull away and send us to the losers bracket. Joe Smith lead us with 25 points while VC added 15 in a sidekick role tonight. Kerry Kittles had a great one against us, which hurts my already shaky faith in Darrick martin. Clippers 91 - Sonics 86 - We shot close to .500% and managed to upend Seattle at home. Lorenzen Wright & Joe Smith lead us from the front with 36 points. Gary Payton tore us apart with 26 points and 9 assists with only 2 turnovers. PG is starting to scare me and I am again considering looking at some other options. Clippers Trade PF Andrew DeClercq, PG Troy Hudson & 3 2nd Round Draft Picks to Orlando magic for SG Anfernee 'Penny' Hardaway - In addition to the extra cash this makes our owners, Penny is a good stop gape at PG. His contract is expiring (While the two we drop aren't) and Hardaway can also play at SG comfortably. Hopefully a change of scenery will improve his numbers too, but he's still a solid defender. Clippers 95 - Pacers 91 - A good win for us and I am happy to say Penny did a great job of holding Reggie Miller to just 14 points. This was our usual team effort and also as usual a big man (Rik Smits) dominated us inside. Still, we won and hopefully the 'new look' Clippers can make a post-season run. Spurs 90 - Clippers 89 (OT) - This one hurt. We made a frantic comeback completed on a Lorenzen Wright baseline jumper, but we lost in OT when e fouled Tim Duncan late and the big man made his free throws. Still it's a good character building game and Vince lead us tonight with 22 points. Clippers 98 - Timberwolves 68 - Joe Smith had something to prove and we dominated en route to a 30 point beatdown here. It was actually Penny who lead us with 19 points but J.R. Reid got star of the game for his impressive 6 steals. Tyrone just looked overmatched for Minnesota and probably isn't good enough to start yet, especially against someone like VC. Clippers 86 - Bulls 76 - A solid win for us as we brush aside the Bulls. Good shooting (.471) and rebounding (+14) lead the way as we beat them up inside for a big win as we have now won 4 of the last 5. Rockets 84 - Clippers 72 - Well not how I wanted this to go. Future hall of famers Hakeem & Barkley tore us a new asshole as I just can't understand why we are so terrible at stopping opposing big men. This is not how I wanted to end the month. At least we are consistently mediocre. Somehow we have yet again had a perfectly .500 month. At this point it's tough to decide if we want to just give up and shoot for the lottery or actually make one more move and maybe have a playoff run. I'll probably have to wait yet another month to start getting a complete picture. Next update with feature All-Star information as we start the second half of the year. All-Star Weekend: Sophmores 99 - Rookies 88 Big Z 7 Tim Duncan lead the way as the Sophmores beat their rookie counterparts. Z was in familiar surroundings with 3 other Cavaliers on his team. The Clippers Vince Carter got the start for the Rookies and had a somewhat disappointing game with only 4 points. 3 Point Shootout Reggie Miller wins with 16 to rookie Paul Pierce's 6. Slam Dunk Vince Carter just missed the first cut, finishing 4th behind Alonzo Mourning. SF John Wallace of Toronto won with his teammate Reggie Slater finishing in 3rd. West 108 - East 99 The Western All-Star won, lead by Shaq & Antonio McDyess. The East looked a little overwhelemd although Allen Iverson kept it interesting for his team. We were missing Lorenzen Wright & Penny for various times and right now it's hard to tell if this team is lottery bound of a low seed. I've got a lot of pressure to make a decision soon, but I think as we approach the trade deadline I'll get a better full idea of what we need to do. |

Even worse was people seemed to refuse to deal 1st round picks, so we will just have 1 barring some trades when the season is over. If we keep playing at this level, we should at least improve our Lottery odds. Also Vince hasn't won a single rookie of the month award despite being our main focus on offense. A little upsetting. |

The end result is the 12th best odds of winning the lottery (lol) and some hope that maybe next year we can turn things around. The season was a mixed bag. Vince really turned it up late and was rewarded not just with the first All-Rookie team, but the 3rd All-NBA team! He didn't get rookie of the year (Paul Pierce) but it's a good sign and those people who thought we should pick-up Michael Olowakandi probably feel pretty dumb about now. Our front court was pretty solid, but it's clear we need some answers at the guards. Lamond Murray & Penny Hardaway aren't good enough but I have my eye on a few prospects in the draft. Obviously a Steve Francis would be nice, but there are other good targets that could be plan B. |

While the front court could be argued as worse, the SF through PG spots are all better. Vince improved and Artest and Francis seem like great guys who can help immediately. Joe Smith & Penny will get most of the bench minutes but Jerome & Barry will give us some D while Maurice will look to provide some scoring. I am a little disappointed in Brian Skinner's progress (especially for a 1st round pick) but we will be fine up front with our current trio. I'm going to say we can make the post-season with this team. We were already close last year and this team seems to have upgraded in all of our weaker spots and dumped some dead weight. Our young trio of VC, Francis & Artest is already playing good. VC is leading us with 20 PPG while Steve has 17 & Ron 15. Fieck, Smith & Marshall are all contributing well with good rebounding and solid scoring numbers. Penny is also chipping in 7.4 with 5 rebounds and a steal and a half per game. I guess our biggest disappointment has been Donyell as he's only managed 6.6 PPG and is settling a lot into a defensive/rebounding role. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but he should be getting less points than Joe Smith or Jamie Fieck. Hopefully we can keep winning games and barring injuries I think we will. |

Posted Image Day 21-40 MAGIC 95, Clippers 75 NETS 94, Clippers 88 Clippers 101, CAVALIERS 95 Clippers 96, HAWKS 73 Clippers 95, SUNS 90 Clippers 110, KNICKS 84 Suns 96, CLIPPERS 85 CLIPPERS 105, Timberwolves 93 Lakers 113, CLIPPERS 85 - LA Clippers trade PF Brian Skinner to Portland for C Rasheed Wallace (B C+ D B C D) This was an offer to us. As much as we like Skinner, I feel Rasheed is a bit better now and provides a nice scoring touch and is also very versatile. I could play him at C/PF/SF without batting an eyelid. Clippers 81, WARRIORS 71 Record: 13-8 (5-4), 4th in Conference, 4.0 GB 1st Bit of a step backwards for us, but staying above .500 means we are safely in a playoff position right now. All of our scoring dropped a little but our D seems to have improved and We only gave up more than 100 once against the West's best team, the Lakers. VC still leads us with 19.9 PPG while 'Franchise' has 16.3 with 8 APG but a slightly high 4.1 TPG. Artest, Feick, Smith & Marshall are all providing around 10 PPG which gives us nice balance but I'd prefer to see Ron step out a little. Penny has been ok in his minutes but might get them cut down a little. Maurice Taylor is scoring a ridiculous 6.3 PPG in just 10 minutes and should find himself as our back-up SF. This'll also hopefully give more time to Rasheed on the 3rd string. Edited by Hajjhowe, Jun 22 2010, 11:47 PM.
