The New York Knicks have been a mess since I joined the NBA just a five years ago. The least wins. Only two pathetic post-season appearences and a series of failed draft picks.

The man above is who I hope will change that. Dwight Howard may be 18, but he's also looking to become the new face of my New York Knicks. His D isn't polished, but he is a presence inside and can grab boards with the best. This man is NOT going to be Vince Carter. He's going to hopefully lead us where the Knicks haven't been since 1973.

To a championship banner.

New York Knicks Off-Season

NBA Draft:
- C Dwight Howard Round 1 (#2 Overall)
- SF Kirk Snyder Round 2 (#1 Overall)

Free Agency:
- New York Knicks sign SF Michael Finley to a 4 year, 43 million dollar deal
- Knicks sign PF Etan Thomas to a 3 year, 5.1 million deal
- New York Knicks trade SG Casey Jacobson for P Stromile Swift (B- D+ D+ B- B-)
- Knicks sign SF Michael Smith, PG Andre Barrett & C Rasheed Wallace to 1 Year Minimums

2004-2005 Starting Rosters

1st Sring:

C - Chris Kaman (B- C- D- B+ B-)
PF - Dwight Howard (A- C- F+ B- A-)
SF - Michael Finley (B B C+ B+ C)
SG - Doug Cristie (C+ B C A D+)
PG - Jamaal Tinsley (C C A C+ D-)

2nd String:
C - Etan Thomas (C+ D F+ B B)
PF - Stromile Swift ( B- D+ D+ B- B-)
SF - Kirk Snyder (B- C+ C C+ C)
SG - Kirk Snyder
PG - Kenny Anderson (C C B C+ C-)

3rd String:
C - Rasheed Wallace (C+ C+ F- B- C)
PF - Rasheed Wallace
SF - Michael Smith (C D+ D+ B- B+)
SG - Michael Smith
PG - Andre Barrett (C B+ B- C D)

So, we look pretty awful. Dwight will be the star of our show, but our big signing Michael Finley seems a bit worse and our top picks Kaman & Tinsley seems to have stayed the same or, in Tinsley's case, regressed. Doug is a solid hand but is paid a ridiculous 12 million this year, but it'll be off the books after. We look like a lottery team to me but Dwight and Finley are a good core and we will have cap room again soon.

Day 1-20

Record:
5-6 (3-4 @ Home), 0.5 GB 8th, 4.5 GB 1st

So we are basically a two man show (Stunning) as it's all been Michael Finley (23/5/3) and Dwight Howard (22/13) with everyone else just standing around them. Chris Kaman has done alright and helped clean up the boards, but Tinsley 7 Cristie are two of the worst backcourt players in the league (Especially on offense) and only Kirk Snyder has provided anything off the bench. Honestly, this record is kind of generous. We will see how long it lasts.

Day 21-40

Record:
11-16 (6-10), 1.5 GB 8th, 7.0 GB 1st

Injuries to Michael Finley hurt us, but when he was playing and healthy we were not a terrible team. Jamaal improved (8/7) to at least passable, but Finley, Cristie and even Snyder were sometimes all simultaneously injured for us. Kirk also really stepped up and is now our 3rd best scorer off the bench. It's nice to see some people trying to keep their jobs, because I can see myself letting a lot of these guys go if they plan on playing like this.

Day 41-60

Record:
22-20 (11-4), 4th Place, 4.0 GB Division lead

Wow. Our first healthy month, and we are 11-4. I am pretty stunned to be honest with you. Everyone has stepped up their game and while we benefited from a lot of home games, this is still an impressive accomplishment. Will it save some of these guys jobs? Only time will tell...

Sophmores 111 - Rookies 89
Dwight Howard (18 pts, 12 reb, 2 stl, 1 blk)
Chris Kaman (5 pts, 8 reb, 4 ast)

Jamal Crawford (Hawks) def. Carmelo Anthony (Wizards) 14-11 to win back to back titles!

SF Fred Jones (Spurs) wins!
Rolan Roberts finishes in last.

Day 61-100

Record:
37-30 (15-10), 4th Place, 3.0 GB Division lead

So it seems that this team is determined to make me look like a genius. Meanwhile the Clippers seem to be lost without my guidance and are somehow starting Dickey Shrimpkins at Center. Good riddance. In better new Finley is everything I hoped for when I gave him that huge deal and Dwight is already proving to be one of the best big men, even playing out of position at PF. Everyone else has been doing a solid job as supporting cast but I still don't think any of them on expiring deals will come back. Maybe Cristie & Tinsley, but if I haven't got upgrades than I don't know if this team will ever be a true contender.

Day 100-120

Record:
42-40 (5-10), 5th Place, 7.0 GB Division lead

A horrible finish wasn't helped by an even worse case of injuries. Dwight Howard AND Michael Finley will miss game 1 & 2 of our first round series, with Finley possibly missing the first 4 games. On the plus side Dwight was a 1st All-NBA rookie team member, but didn't win rookie of the year (Andre Iguodala got it). So I have no idea what to expect against the Pistons. When healthy, we might have had a shot, but without our two best players? This has sweep written all over it.

---

#4 Detroit Pistons (43-39) vs. #5 New York Knicks (42-40)

Knicks Starting 5:

C - Chris Kaman
PF - Dwight Howard*
SF - Michael Finley*
SG - Doug Cristie
PG - Jamaal Tinsley

Key bench subs: SF Kirk Snyder, PF Stromile Swift, PF Etan Thomas

Pistons Starting 5:

C - Erick Dampier
PF - Lamar Odom
SF - Grant Hill
SG - Ricky Paulding
PG - Frank Williams

Key bench subs: PF Marcus Taylor, SG Ben Gordon & SF Darius Rice

Lead by Lamar Odom, the Pistons have a very balanced attack and a good enough defense to give us headaches. Chris is going to have a real hard time against Odom, and when Dwight returns he has to try and move back Dampier. Not an easy task. Grant Hill is also up to snuff and could give Finley a lot of problems. Our only real hope is Jamaal Tinsley actually plays like a 1st overall pick, because they do have issues at PG on defense. Also I think we have a better bench, but winning 2 games might be a feat given our injuries.

Quarter-Finals:

Knicks 84 - Pistons 73
Pistons 97 - Knicks 78
Pistons 81 - Knicks 70
Knicks 97 - Pistons 79
Knicks 88 - Pistons 79
Knicks 98 - Pistons 96

Wow. I am stunned, to be honest. Kirk Snyder carried us on his back in game one and we had a huge game 4 from Kaman & Dwight before Finley returned and we pushed past the Pistons and into the Semi-Finals. It was just a great few games for Kirk who picked up Finley's scoring load. Also Chris showed amazing poise and averaged a double double (13/10) for the round. The best news? Our Semi-Finals opponents...

Quarter-Finals

East
#8 Chicago Bulls def. #1 Charlotte Hornets 4-1
#5 New York Knicks def. #4 Detroit Pistons 4-2
#2 Washington Wizards def. #7 Orlando Magic 4-0
#3 Miami heat def. #6 Cleveland Cavaliers 4-3

West
#1 Golden State Warriors def. #8 LA Lakers 4-1
#4 Dallas Mavericks def. #5 Phoenix Suns 4-0
#2 Utah Jazz def. #7 Sacramento Kings 4-1
#3 LA Clippers def. #6 Houston Rockets 4-1

#5 New York Knicks (42-40) vs. #8 Chicago Bulls (39-43)

Knicks Starting 5:

C - Chris Kaman
PF - Dwight Howard
SF - Michael Finley
SG - Doug Cristie
PG - Jamaal Tinsley

Key bench subs: SF Kirk Snyder, PF Stromile Swift, PF Etan Thomas

Bulls Starting 5:

C - Donyell Marshall
PF - Kendrick Perkins
SF - Shawn Marion
SG - Cory Carr
PG - Damon Stoudamire

Key bench subs: C Ha Seung-Jin, PG Juan Dixon, PF Wayne Simien

So it's 'The Matrix' looking to go further than ever. The face of the Bulls, Marion has been a perennial All-Star since he went #1 overall and with good reason. He's a defensive expert, a great rebounder for his size and he scores close to 20 PPG every time out. He's also kept the Bulls competitive even with some teams worse than this around him. The team he has now though, is solid. Marshall is someone I am very familiar with while Perkins is an ok D-man as is Carr. The bigger problem may be Stoudamire. I think we can actually win this series, and with home court we should be considered the favorites. We will have to just wait and see though...

Semi-Finals:

Knicks 97 - Bulls 81
Knicks 114 - Bulls 93
Bulls 99 - Knicks 81
Bulls 98 - Knicks 65
Bulls 92 - Knicks 89
Bulls 103 - Knicks 85

So after two good home games, we got beatdown. We were very close in Game 5, but we will have to settle for 6 playoff wins, which is more than this team had the previous god knows how many seasons. Dwight & Michael both played great, and Kirk Snyder really impressed me off the bench. Everyone else is on thin ice, and despite our sucess I can see us having a very different line-up next year...

Semi-Finals

#8 Chicago Bulls def. #5 New York Knicks 4-2
#2 Washington Wizards def. #3 Miami Heat 4-1

West
#1 Golden State Warriors def. #4 Dallas Mavericks 4-2

Conference Finals

#8 Chicago Bulls def. #2 Washington Wizards 4-3

West
#1 Golden State Warriors def. #2 Utah Jazz 4-2

NBA Finals
#8 Chicago Bulls def. #1 Golden State Warriors 4-1
Finals MVP: SF Shawn Marion

And so ends the streak of the Clippers, and one of the best Cinderella stories in NBA history. Chicago become the first 8th seed to win an NBA title in do so with a dominating showing against the league's best team, the Warriors. Now we look forward to the off-season as I try to build a new legacy of sucess here in New York.

New York Knicks 2005-2006 Starting Roster

1st String
C - Dwight Howard (A- C- F+ B A-)
PF - Zach Randolph (B- B- D+ C+ B-)
SF - Michael Finley (B B C+ B+ C)
SG - Ray Allen (B- A- C C+ C-)
PG - Chris Paul (B C+ A B C-)

2nd String
C - Chris Kaman (B- C- D- B+ B-)
PF - Chris Kaman
SF - Kirk Snyder (B C+ C B- C+)
SG - Doug Cristie (C B- C A- D)
PG - Jamaal Tinsley (C C A C+ D-)

3rd String
C - Eddie Griffin (C+ B+ D B+ C+)
PF - Eddie Griffin
SF - Doug Cristie
SG - Troy Bell (B- B+ C+ C D+)
PG - Troy Bell

Not In Rotation: PF Andrew DeClercq (C+ C- D B+ B)

Injured Reserve:
PF Stromile Swift (B- D+ D B- B)
PF Etan Thomas (C+ D F+ B- B)
PG Eric Snow (C C B- A- D)

So I went out and got the PG I wanted since last year started. Chris Paul looks like a surefir pick to me, and him and Dwight give us something special to build around. Finley has stayed the same while Ray Allen should provide scoring punch along with Zach Randolph, who back at his natural positiong of PF. Chris has been relegated to the bench due to his poor D at the PF spot, while he's joined by offensive stand-out Kirk Snyder and our backcourt last year in Cristie & Tinsley. The last two players who could get minutes are Blake Griffin, a long range big who can lay solid D and our project Troy Bell, who could be a nice deal if he develops.

Our goals this year are to improve from last season and establish ourselves amongst the best in the East. There will be some tough opponents (The Bucks brand new line-up looks sick) but I am confident we can impress this year.

Very good read thus far. Not as fun when the Knicks defy expectations and go to the East Semis in year one... wanted to see more of a rebuilding process. But you look like a team that could make the playoffs again, good luck. And what was Dwights season stats in year 1 against Iggy's?

Day 1-20

Record:
10-7 (8-2 @ Home), 1st Place Overall

After a very hot start (8-2) we cooled after some injuries. We've been getting solid production from our big 4 of Dwight (21/10), Finley (16/5), Ray Allen (19/6) & rookie Chris Paul (17/5/10/2). CP3, as the media have dubbed him, is also the rookie of the month in addition to being player of the week in week 3. When fully healthy, we've looked like the best in the East. Hopefully that continues and our other guys (Zach, Kaman, Snyder...) can keep producing.

And the beat goes on. Once again our big 4 has been solid with CP3 in paticular already looking like one of the best PG's in the league with his 2nd ROM award. We are currently tied with the Bucks for 1st, but I think now that we are fully healthy again, the conference could be ours to take as we approach the halfway mark of the season.

Day 41-60/ASW

Record:
26-15 (17-3 @ Home/6-3 Month), 2nd Place Overall, 1.0 GB Milwaukee

We are currently 2 games ahead of the Heat, who have been a very tough foe for us this year like most of our Atlantic opponents. Still I am confident we can capture the crown and we're still very much in the race of top Eastern team. Sadly CP3 didn't get his 3rd ROM in a row, instead it was Gonzaga product Ronny Turiaf from Seattle. Still Chris will be at the All-Star weekend, with many other NYK faces.

Day 61-80

Record:
33-23 (23-7 @ Home/7-8 Month), 2nd Place Overall, 4.5 GB Milwaukee

A pretty poor month for us. No excuses either, we just sucked. Despite the bad play overall we still pushed our division lead to 3 games and CP3 won yet another ROM award. I am considering moving Chris Kaman back into the starting rotation because of his defense and the face he's scoring more than Zach despite playing less minutes. The bench has been rather lackluster outside of him, with Kirk seeming to have fallen off a bit from last year. Hopefully these adjustments help but I am already keeping an eye to the future and looking at maybe even trading for a upgrade at PF.

Day 81-100/Trade Deadline

Record:
38-28 (25-8 @ Home/5-5 Month), 2nd Place Overall, 4.5 GB Milwaukee

Not much change, as we have another mediocre month. I was seriously considering making a move for Tyson Chandler, but I wasn't eager to deal out a 1st round pick for something I feel we can get in Free Agency this off-season. CP3 grabbed another ROM but I am a little underwhelmed by our team. The bench really needs to step up. Kaman and Zach are making a nice combo to pair with Dwight, but the SF/SG/PG spots are leaving a lot to be desired. I'm looking to give Snyder more minutes and relegate Cristie to the 3rd string. Hopefully it's enough to spark a good finish as we are still within striking distance of the conference but are now tied for the division.
