Hilltoppers announce new coach

Bowling Green, Kentucky: Today the Western Kentucky Athletic Director, Ross Bjork, has decided it's time for a change at Western Kentucky. A once proud Division 1-AA powerhouse, the move to 1-A hasn't worked out too well since they moved after the 07 football season, going 2-22 the past two years, including winless in 09. Bjork, recently taking over as athletic director, did not buy into the direction of former coach, David Elson, and gave full reign and control of the football team to the new man, Chris Ticon. Ticon has no previous history as a Head Coach, so it remains to be seen how this decision goes.

Ticon released a short statement today, saying

"I am proud to take control of a team that, while having a long way to go, still shows a lot of promise and potential as a Division 1-A team. I look forward to getting started."

so are you playing every game or what? i assume so since the difficulty and what not. your line isnt too bad. your starting QB and #1 WR arent too bad. id use that as much as possible <_<

and i predict 5-7 record. 7-5 if they show up. <_<

On a positive note to begin, we signed two recruits before our first game....* FS Kevin Fields from Georgetown, Kentucky (Rated 92th in FS's) and * OLB Marcus Bell from Mount Sterling, Kentucky (Rated 217 in OLB's).

Game 1

Scoring Summary

1st Quarter

WKU 0
Nebraska 24

2nd Quarter

WKU 0
Nebraska 21

3rd Quarter

WKU 0
Nebraska 14

4th Quarter

WKU 7
Nebraska 21

Final Score

Nebraska 80
WKU 7

Stats

Kawaun Jakes-8 for 30, 118 yards, 0 TDs 5 INTs

Bobby Rainey-2 carries, 86 yards, 1 TD
Kawaun Jakes-13 carries for -24 yards

Bobby Rainey-4 catches for 60 yards
Andrew Pettijohn-2 catches for 31 yards

Thomas Majors-14 tackles, 12 solo, 3 TFL
Vince Williams-1 INT

Analysis-Obviously, this was ugly...The speed difference was ridiculous and the Spread offense didn't connect with our players. We got a fluke 85 yard TD run at the end to erase the shutout, but our defense was abused and our offense was horrible. Luckily they were our toughest opponent by far, so hopefully this is the last of these types of games for the year. Up next, we are at Kentucky....Hopefully we keep it within 40 :shifty:

We will be changing from a Spread offense to a Pro Style offense for now...we need to find something that clicks with our players.

Stats

Kawaun Jakes-9 for 25 for 87 yards, 3 INTs

Bobby Rainey-11 carries for 23 yards
Kawaun Jakes-7 carries for -56 yards

Jack Doyle-3 catches for 42 yards
Andrew Pettijohn-1 catch for 33 yards

Thomas Majors-8 tackles, 7 solo, 2 TFL

Analysis-Another blowout, where our offense was just pathetic. I was impressed with the defense at some points, holding them to 4th down punts. They showed progress, but the offense isn't showing any yet. I think it's time for a 3rd different playbook in 3 weeks. Next week we are at home vs Indiana, our best chance at a win in nonconference...I hope to see at least 2 TD's scored by us.

Your passing game is terrible. Maybe you should run more? Is your QB mobile? The Option might be... err... an option. Something to spark that offense.

Just my opinion but you may want to look at the JUCO QB the toppers brought in this past class, Pelesasa. He's not as mobile but he's far more accurate as a passer. Something you may find useful with such small wideouts going forward.

I have nobody by that name, and besides, Jakes is a 64 and the next closest is a 56...I have no choice but to stick with him.

Kawaun Jakes-11 carries for 43 yards

Bobby Rainey-4 catches for 46 yards
Andrew Pettijohn-2 catches for 82 yards, 1 TD

Thomas Majors-5 tackles, 4 solo, 3 TFL
Ryan Beard-5 tackles, 1 INT

Analysis-We sucked again....This schedule is way too tough for a team of our calibar, and next year we will schedule much lighter. I like the new style of offense for us, called Multiple...it improved our run and pass game and after the USF loss coming up, I think it can carry us to some wins in the Sun Belt. Up next is at USF like I mentioned, and I'd be shocked if we hold them under 50.

Kawaun Jakes-11 carries for -33 yards

Clark Jeter-3 catches for 53 yards, 1 TD

Thomas Majors-6 tackles, 6 solo, 1 TFL

Analysis-Another ass whipping, and we are showing no signs of getting much better. Jakes got hurt twice in this game and the backup couldn't keep the ball in bounds when throwing. The Sun Belt games start now, and we need them badly...I'm just hoping for 1 win at this point, but I hope that is enough to keep my job for another year...We are making progress recruiting despite these losses.

We are off Week 5 and then head to FIU, so we will spend this upcoming week recruiting heavily.

Bobby Rainey-4 catches for 22 yards
Jack Doyle-2 catches for 37 yards

Thomas Majors-5 tackles, 5 solo, 2 TFL
Nick Harnett-5 tackles, 5 solo, 3 TFL, 2 sacks

Analysis-Well, the conference opener didn't make us any better...they are a team very similar to us in talent, so this was pretty pathetic. We are changing QB's from Jakes to Bruce for the next game, and we have a lot of our main recruits coming in to visit us this week...So hopefully we can impress them, but I doubt it. 0-12 looks real possible.

next up, at home vs UL Monroe

Andrew Pettijohn-2 catches for 32 yards

Thomas Majors-6 tackles, 6 solo
Clint Mitchell-7 tackles, 4 solo, 1 TFL
Rammell Lewis-4 tackles, 3 solo, 2 TFL, 1 sack

Analysis-We did it! Holy crap, I did not see this one coming. We came out from the get go with Vince Williams returning a fumble 91 yards for a TD, and never looked back. I am proud of the effort of our boys, especially because this was a huge recruiting week with 10 prospects visiting...We picked one hell of a time to play our best game. The switch at QB worked out perfectly and leaves me wondering why I didn't do it sooner.

Next up, we are at UL Lafayette...good challenge for us to see if we can play well back to back weeks.
