#6 Kansas State vs. #11 Penn State Joe Pa and his boys hung close until the 4th quarter, but an offensive explosion saw the Wildcats run over the Lions in what ended up looking like a route. 3 TD's and 2 FG's gave a 27 point quarter and a pretty good win for the Big 12 hopefuls. Nobody stood out prominently thanks to Penn State's early defensive strangle hold on the Wildcat attack. Once it got rolling though, it showed how dangerous it could be and will leave K-State looking forward to a showdown with a division rival in the Elite 8. Kansas State 34 - Penn State 6 #3 Nebraska vs. #14 Texas A&M The Huskers left no doubt in this years rematch, blanking the Aggies en route to an easy win. The defense gave up next to nothing on the ground, with Texas A&M getting less than a yard per carry (On 46 tries). The passing game was equally poor while the Nebraska option calmly ran on efficiently all day long. The win will put Nebraska against a familiar face in Kansas State and they'll be hoping homefield and that D can slow down the Wildcats. Kansas State meanwhile will be looking to improve to 4-1 all-time in the playoffs and keep the momentum of their last win going. Nebraska 24 - Texas A&M 0 |

#7 Wisconsin vs. #10 Florida Florida didn't handle the harsh, Wisconsin weather and were ultimately left frozen out of the win column. The Badgers seemed right at home, their defense swarming all over the Gators while Ron Dayne had a solid day with 165 yards and a pair of TD's. Doug Johnson was passing early and often, tossing up 52 attempts by the games end while three of them ended up in Badgers hands. Not helping was the 6 sacks he suffered although he did complete 29 of those passes and tossed a TD. The win is good for Wisconsin as they handled a team ranked pretty close to them rather easily. They'll be watching with great interest when Michael Vick and his Hokies take on the Longhorns. Wisconsin 29 - Florida 10 #2 Virginia Tech vs. #15 Texas Michael Vick and the Hokies absolutely demolished Texas in the most one sided game in the short history of the BCS playoffs. The Hokies scored early and often, getting a 30-0 halftime lead and not letting up on the gas to finish ahead 58 points. Major Applewhite looked like a tackling dummy, getting sacked 12 times and dragging down the Longhorns total yards to 3 on 39 attempts. When he wasn't on his back he was missing passes completing just 13 of his 34 attemtpts. The win is a statement. Virginia Tech look VERY dangerous and just crushed Texas here. A very impressive display to say the least. Virginia Tech 58 - Texas 0 ---- Elite 8: #16 Southern Miss vs. #8 Michigan #12 Marshall vs. #4 Alabama #6 Kansas State vs. #3 Nebraska #7 Wisconsin vs. #2 Virginia Tech Marshall will be looking for another upset against a somewhat shaky Bama's side from last week, while the eagles will feel the same after beating down the #1 team in the country. Kansas State & Nebraska should bring the goods but Wisconsin will have a big mountain to climb against the red hot Hokies. |

#16 Southern Miss vs. #8 Michigan The Eagles almost made it two in a row, but narrowly lost out on the road, falling in the Big House. Michigans offense struggled all day with the Golden Eagles D who held them to one TD only. Still, turnovers hurt the visitors who fell just shy of an improbable Final 4 appearance as a 16 seed. The end came with the Eagles at the Michigan 10 with just 53 seconds left. Facing 1st and goal a misfired pass lead to the 3rd pick of the day for Jeff Kelly. The Eagles have nothing to be ashamed of, while the Wolverines will be thankful to be in the Final 4 and keeping their BCS title dreams alive. Michigan 12 - Southern Miss 6 #12 Marshall vs. #4 Alabama Facing a hostile environment, a top rated defense and one of the countries most dangerous back's in Shaun Alexander most wouldn't be shocked to see the Tide roll Marshall. The only shock now, however, was that Marshall shut down that back, turned the ball over just once and silenced the crowd on their way to a comfortable victory. Chad Pennington ignored the pressure, completing 18 of his 31 passes with one TD and played the whole game despite getting sacked 7 times. The Marshall D gave up less than 3 yards a carry against the Crimson Tide's ground game and ultimately grabbed a spot in the Final Four. Facing Michigan in neutral territory it might even be possible that Marshall thunders all the way to a title game appearance... Marshall 16 - Alabama 6 |

#6 Kansas State vs. #3 Nebraska The Huskers fans rallied hard and Nebraska showed they are the current kings of the Big 12. While they only lead 13-10 at halftime the D played a shutout after while Eric Crouch and company added 13 points to walk out with a spot in the FInal 4 and a BCS title match in their head. Dan Alexander lead all Cornhuskers with 2 TD's and more than 200 yards while the Wildcats D gave up 7.1 yards per carry to the Nebraska option. Nebraska 26 - Kansas State 10 #7 Wisconsin vs. #2 Virginia Tech While they trailed heading into the 2nd quarter, the Hokies took it to another level after before rolling past the Badgers with a comfortable win and a spot in the final 4. Wisconsin struggled on both sides, Ron Dayne have a tough time on the ground while VTech ran for 355 yards, with two backs getting over 100 each. The win was impressive and many experts are calling the Nebraska - Virginia Tech game the 'unofficial' title match with Marshall and Michigan standing opposite them. No matter your opinion, it should prove to be a very entertaining affair. Virginia Tech 34 - Wisconsin 6 --- Final Four: #8 Michigan vs. #12 Marshall #2 Virginia Tech vs. #3 Nebraska So we have a very real possibility of seeing a non-AQ in the title game, but one has to think the winner of VTech/Nebraska is a heavy favorite against either opponent. |

#8 Michigan vs. #12 Marshall Miracles can happen. But this was no miracle. This was domination. After a scoreless draw, the Herd exploded for 17 points in the 2nd quarter. They aded another FG for a 20-0 lead before Michigan finally got on the board with a FG of their own. It was not a sign of change however, as Marshall rolled their 3rd consecutive higher seeded foe for another TD and now find themselves improbably in the BCS title game. The Marshall D held Michigan out of the endzone and got two picks of Tom Brady while Chad Pennington tossed one pick, but also two TD's while completing 19-31 passes. The Thundering Herd have looked very impressive so far, but will possibly have their biggest challenge in the BCS finals. Not that they haven't shown themselves able to overcome a challenge already. Marshall 27 - Michigan 3 #2 Virginia Tech vs. #3 Nebraska In a game that went literally to the final second, the winner was decided, like much of the game, by a kick. Nebraska's defense had a solid showing, bending but not giving up TD's. The Hokies got numerous big kicks including a 48 yarder after they trailed 7-0. The ground game meanwhile was efficient, getting a little over 4 yards a carry as Nebraska lead for most of the game. With a 17-15 lead and 2:20 left, the Hokies began on their own 19 and ran ten play, winding the clock down to 3 seconds from the 34. Shayne Graham, who had already made 5 field goals, was asked to make one more. This one his longest from 51 yards. The ball seemed to sail forever before just... slipping over! The Tech fans went nuts and Michael Vick leapt onto teammates as the Hokies punched their ticket with no time left. The win puts Virginia Tech through to the title game as they prepare to face Marshall. For Nebraska it was a case of close... but no cigar. Virginia Tech 18 - Nebraska 17 --- #2 Virginia Tech vs. #12 Marshall So this is it. It took just one year, but this playoffs has given us countless firsts. The first 1 seed to lose to a 16. The first non-AQ to reach any and now all levels of the post-season, and the first double digit seed to reach the finals. This game could be a lot closer than you'd expect. Marshall has handled the opponents pretty well and shown they can run or pass depending on what the defense gives them. They also have an underrated D that has slowed down some rushing games already including Jamal Lewis and the Volunteers. |

Posted ImagePosted Image #2 Virginia Tech Hokies vs. #12 Marshall Thundering Herd This match went as most predicted. A team came out and dominated their opponents, leading early and often en route to a convincing win. That teams? The Marshall Thundering Herd. Hot starters all year, the Herd shot out to a 17-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Hokies tried to cut the lead down, but only a late TD made the scoreline respectable for the losers. As head coach Bob Pruett was denched in gatorade, celebrating his first national title since 1996, the new to division 1 Herd celebrated a feat some teams with hundreds of years have yet to taste. Doug Chapman was the games MVP, but it was a team effort that saw Marshall finish off the most impressive title run in the short existance of the BCS playoffs. The real question is, how do you top that? Marshall 23 - Virginia Tech 13 |

2000 NCAA Brackets #1 Oklahoma vs. #16 Michigan #8 Nebraska vs. #9 Kansas State #5 Virginia Tech vs. #12 Texas #4 Washington vs. #13 Georgia Tech #6 Oregon State vs. #11 Notre Dame #3 Miami (FL) vs. #14 TCU #7 Florida vs. #10 Oregon #2 Florida State vs. #15 Clemson Boomer Sooner will be looking for a title, but should get stiff challenges from familiar faces to the BCS playoffs like Nebraska/K-State, Florida State & Florida. A couple of teams will pop their BCS cherries (Miami being the highest ranked) but as Marshall proved last year anything can happen in this playoff format. Speaking of non-AQ's, TCU is the long rep this year. |

#1 Oklahoma vs. #16 Michigan In a greta denfensive display the Sooners shutdown the Wolverines at home, getting a comfortable 24-0 win. Even with a poor game from, QB Josh Heupel the Sooners never looked in trouble here. Oklahoma 24 - 0 Michigan #8 Nebraska vs. #9 Kansas State While tournament veterans at this point, it was the Cornhuskers who looked more polished as they slipped past the Wildcats en route to an easy win. A big 3rd quarter and strong defense lead the way as Nebraska also overcame poor QB player to grab a win and prepare a fellow big name program in the Sooners. Nebraska 27 - Kansas State 6 #5 Virginia Tech vs. #12 Texas Ater a dominating run to the finals last year, the Hokies struggled hard but managed a strong finish that saw Michael Vick and his men jump forward into round 2. It was the potential #1 pick who got the big play, compelting his 2nd TD pass with just 45 seconds left to avoid the upset and move his boys into round 2. Virginia Tech 31 - Texas 28 #4 Washington vs. #13 Georgia Tech The Pac-10 champions struggled, behind 23-17 heading into the final frame, but ultimately they managed to overcome a tough Tech team behin da great game from Marques Tuiasosopo. The win will give the Huskies a match-up with the Hokies and continued the tournaments run of scratch results early on. Washington 27 - Georgia Tech 23 #6 Oregon State vs. #11 Notre Dame The Fighting Irish made a greta start, jumping out 14-0 but did not score again as Jonathan Smith and his NFL calibre wideouts took control and brushed their foes aside. Runningback Ken Simonton was the real star of the day with 175 yards and 2 TD's as the Beavers looked impressive here. Oregon State 24 - Notre Dame 14 #3 Miami (FL) vs. #14 TCU Despite a stellar performance from Ladian Tomlinson, the Horned Frogs couldn't overcome a woeful day from QB Sean Stilley and were handled by the Hurricanes here. Mimai lead a balanced attack and just had their way with TCU's pass game, letting them complete just 6 of 27 and grabbing 3 picks. Certainly a confidence builder heading into their next match with the Beavers. #7 Florida vs. #10 Oregon The Gatros handled themselves well here and brushed aside a lackluster Ducks performance to grab a spot in the Elite 8 of the NCAA tournament. Earnest Graham was the 'lead' back with 8 yards and 2 TD's, but Robert Gillespie also added 70 yards and a TD in an impressive display of the Gators ground game here. Florida 27 - Oregon 13 #2 Florida State vs. #15 Clemson FSU may have beena controversial choice for a 2 seed, but they left no doubt they deserved people's respect with an absolute hwipping of Clemson. 3 4th quarters TD's added insult to injury as the Noles' rolled the Tigers by 41 points and looked good on both sides of the ball doing it. This program has reached one NCAA finals, and they'll look to add another here. Florida State 51 - Clemson 10 ---- Elite 8 Match-Up's #1 Oklahoma vs. #8 Nebraska #5 Virginia Tech vs. #4 Washington #6 Oregon State vs. #3 Miami (FL) #7 Florida vs. #2 Florida State All chalk winners here but round 2 provides some interesting match-up's. Most exciting is probably Nebraksa vs. Oklahoma and the Sunshine State showdown between Florida and Florida State. |
