They should air retro episodes of WCW Nitro and Raw. Run a weekly block called Monday Night Wars or something where they show the episode of Nitro from that week followed by the episode of Raw.
They have this on WWE Classics on Demand. It's like $7.99 a month though and only on cable :scared:

So I was bored and starting thinking about the numbers here, and this actually sounds like a "so crazy it just might work" thing.

WWE in 2010 had some "eh" buyrate numbers, but when you add it all up, their average revenue for PPV buys was around 95 million dollars. If WWE Network can get on enough TV providers so that they get around the same carriage as the MLB Network (which is what they are aiming for), then they should charge somewhere between 20-25 cents per subscriber per month. If they can pull in 50 million subs at 20 cents a piece, that's 120 million right there, they've already made up their buys and more.

Now, the kicker, if they are presenting these shows on "free TV", then these shows will now have commercials (not that the regular PPVs don't even have commercials now). Now they are selling legit ads on TV, and probably hiking the rate even higher than usual, since these are "special" shows. Now WM can be treated as a true "Super Bowl" type event, commercials included. That makes up a lot of added revenue as well. And these shows will now have more viewers than ever, since the most they hope for these days is 1 million buys for WM, and less than that for the other shows. Now they can carry over their ~4 million person core audience, assume they'll watch, plus you can only assume new viewers will want to hope on board knowing you'll be getting the 4 biggest shows of the year "for free".

The only downside to that plan is that it might hurt the other 8-9 PPVs, but I imagine those are core groups of buyers anyway, and good cards will always sell well when it is properly promoted.

The more I think about this, the more I like it.

my streak of watching the rumble and wrestlemania will be over if its only on WWE network, assuming I have to pay for it (which i wont and i doubt a lot of people will)

Well, by the sounds of it they are trying to put it in the Sports tier, or the advanced basic tier. Not subscription all on it's own. It wouldn't be any different than having MLB Network or NFL Network.

If it worked like NFL Network than I don't see it being too big of a problem to add to any packages people already have.

So here are my ratings for the HiaC PPV that just ended.

1. Sheamus vs. Christian - 6.5/10 - Kinda ok. 5.0 being avaerage, it was better than, but nothing too great. Liked the ending sequence though.

2. Sin Cara vs. Sin Cara - 3.0/10 - Stupid match. All they are doing is pandering to the kids and trying to sell merchandise. These guys could have had a much better match but they slowed down the pacing so much that it looked awkward so they could avoid too many botches.

3. Air Boom vs. Ziggler/Swagger - 7.0/10 - Pretty good match from what I saw. Feed died about a third of the way in, but I love both teams. These 4 guys can work a good match.

4. Mark Henry vs. Randy Orton - 5.5/10 - Probably one of the worst if not the worst Hell in a Cell matches I have seen. Only reason it gets a 5.5 is because Henry won. The post match crap really ruined a lot in my eyes, but oh well.

5. Cody Rhodes vs. John Morrison - NA/10 - Didn't get to see the match because my grandpa came over. The "new" IC title gets a 10/10 from me though.

6. Beth Phoenix vs. Kelly Kelly - 6.0/10 - Liked the match, loved the ending. Still a waste of a PPV spot though...

7. John Cena vs. CM Punk vs. Alberto Del Rio - 7.5/10 - Sorry, but the WWE title has become a joke to me. It has bounced around so much in the last 2 months that I'm kinda just sick of it. The match was pretty awesome, and loved the end even though I am confused as to where exactly the storyline is heading.

So over all, a 5.9 rounded up to a 6.0/10.

While it may appear to some that WWE has halted CM Punk's push or put him on the backburner, sources say that is not the case. WWE officials were very surprised at new merchandise numbers for Punk. Punk is now one of the company's top sellers and is neck-and-neck with John Cena. In one demographic, likely males, Punk is on pace to pass Cena in sales.

Because of Punk's success coming out of the summer storylines, WWE officials are now actively looking for ways to monetize him. WWE Studios are looking for projects that Punk could star in and there is talk of doing a CM Punk book, in part because the company hasn't had many books lined up as of late. There are also plans to release more Punk merchandise soon. Punk is also planned to be a bigger part of WWE programming and pay-per-views going into 2012. Word is that the company will be going "full blown" when it comes to Punk.

Regarding creative plans, Punk is scheduled to headline several upcoming pay-per-views with WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio. There's no word yet where John Cena will fit into the feud, if he will at all. Some have questioned WWE's booking of Punk as of late but it's said that WWE is trying to build sympathy for his losses as a part of something bigger.

God I hope they only give him more merch. If they stick him in movies, it'll pretty much isolate him from his new found fanbase entirely. Also it's a little early to give him a book despite him having wrestled for a long time. I'm more a fan of retired guys getting books.

The 10/10 Raw rating was very telling as a lot of fans were interested in how WWE would progress the Raw rating and they left in droves when they saw what WWE had planned. Hour one did a 3.49 rating with 5,375,000 viewers while hour two did a 3.02 with 4,667,000 viewers. The message fans sent are pretty clear.

UPDATE: TMZ has picked up the Tomko story, labeling him as a "former WWE wrestler" and making no mention of his TNA stint. The site reports that Tomko was wanted on suspicion of robbing a CVS Pharmacy on October 10th where he allegedly threatened to attack the pharmacist unless he got several bottles of Oxycodone. The pharmacist says Tomko got away with 210 tablets.

Tomko was arrested in the bathroom of a local Chili's and when cops arrived on the scene, Tomko has "needle marks and blood running down his arm" and had just flushed something down the toilet. He was taken into custody and told police that he had a severe drug problem.

According to the police, Tomko admitted to taking the pills and said he crushed up and melted down 178 of the Oxycodone, which he then injected. He said he didn't threaten the pharmacist though.

His bond has been set at $7,500.
