I had this basically written out, but I somehow hit the wrong key combination and closed my browser... So I'll tell you what happened in a very condensed form and vow to do better on the next show.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

New Jack vs. Buh Buh Ray Dudley
These two competitors asked Paul Heyman independently backstage if they could have a match, and Heyman finally agreed to let it happen. They went back and forth for the first few minutes, but the match ends with New Jack hitting a flying headbutt off the top rope. The celebration didn't last long, though, as Buh Buh hit a Bubba Cutter for revenge.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Rob Van Dam explains his actions and why he turned on Sabu. The gist of it is that he's tired of Sabu's self-sacrificing behavior taking all the attention away from the real talent in the ring: RVD himself. RVD says that the fans can have Sabu if they want him, but he's the real entertainment value so if people want real quality instead of shock value in their matches they will still support him. And if they don't, they can kiss his ass.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Sabu vs. Lance Storm
Two very evenly matched competitors put on a highly entertaining match. Sabu somehow manages to get out of the Canadian Maple Leaf but does not have the energy to climb to the top and finish Storm off. RVD comes out and busts his former partner over the head with a chair... Storm wins. The two proceed to beat Sabu down.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A promo video is shown explaining the events of the night before and how Brian Lee had cost The Sandman the championship. The two will be competing in the next segment.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Sandman vs. Brian Lee
This was just an old fashioned brawl. Raven came out to help Lee win, but Sandman ducked out of the way of the trashcan shot and Lee took the hit instead. Sandman then got the victory and left through the crowd.

ECW Hardcore TV
Saturday, March 8, 1997
Announcer: Joey styles

The show opens with Paul Heyman walking down the entranceway to the ring. Heyman has kept himself out of the spotlight over the last few weeks, and the fans in attendance were obviously surprised by his presence. A chant of "E-C-W" broke out through ECW Arena as Paul grabbed the microphone.

"Thank you fans of ECW. You've surely noticed my absence over the last couple of months. I have been traveled the United States... Scratch that. I have traveled the GLOBE trying to find the most top-notch talent that I possibly could to bring to ECW. I recognize that not just anyone can come to ECW Arena and leave alive, so it takes a little bit of effort. Guys like Terry Bollea, Randy Poffo, Larry Pfohl... They don't have what it takes. The locker room that we've got back there is full of rare individuals who are willing to SACRIFICE for the greater good of ECW. Because it's not just about us. It's not just about the fans. It's about a whole greater than the sum of its parts and we could not exist if not for EACH OTHER.

So through my quest, I have seen extreme. The Legion of Doom... THEY are extreme. Ken Shamrock... Well, they don't call him the 'World's Most Dangerous Man' for the hell of it. This guy is extreme. And there are others out there. Others who have not yet made themselves known. Some of them you'll recognize, and some you may not. But trust me when I say that there will not be any bullshit cowboy or clown gimmicks here. The 'big boys' can have those. All we want are hardest of the hardcore. So keep tuning in over the next couple of months. I can't reveal anything yet, because nothing's finalized. But I can tell you right now that there will be some additional new blood in ECW.

Now... Being back here at ECW Arena, it gives me a chance to gauge the situation and give the people what they want. Since arriving here earlier this afternoon, I have had Chris Candido, Perry Saturn, and Lance Storm all in my office asking for the chance to fight each other in different combinations. As my way of satisfying these guys, as well as satisfying myself. So tonight in this very ring you are going to see a 4 man elimination match. The competitors will be: Chris Candido, Perry Saturn, Lance Storm... and KEN SHAMROCK! This will be my first up-close and personal glimpse of Ken since the signing, so let's make it count? And what the hell? The winner of this match will get a shot at the ECW TV Title at HostileCity Showdown on March 23rd.

And I haven't forgot about my other big signing! Also tonight, you're going to the Road Warriors Hawk and Animal put their ECW Tag Team Titles on the line against The Dudley Boyz! It's going to be a monumental night in the history of Hardcore TV. I've got to give it a little more thought, but I'll be back out later to name your main event."

Paul drops the microphone as he steps out of the ring and back to the backstage area.

ECW Tag Team Title Match
The Road Warriors vs The Dudley Boyz
This match pits possiby the best tag team in wrestling history against arguably the best up-and-comers that ECW has to offer, and they waste no time in getting the action going. It's Animal against D-Von to start and the two lock up in a test of strength... Which Animal wins easily. But while going to the ground, D-Von kicks Animal in the groin causing him to release his grip. D-Von runs into the rope and hits Animal with a knee to the face. He then tags out to Buh Buh who comes in with a full head of steam and takes Animal to the ground. Animal somehow gets up to tag Hawk in, and Hawk comes in fighting both Dudleys off with a series of punches and headbutts.

After a brawl between all 4 men in the ring, the referee is able to restore some sense of order and it's Hawk one-on-one with Buh Buh. Buh Buh gains the momentum with a Bubba Cutter after being irish whipped into the ropes, but Animal is able to break up the pin after only a 2 count. Buh Buh goes to his corner to strategize with D-Von, but the two made the grave mistake of letting themselves get distracted against a team as smart and powerful as the Legion of Doom. Hawk is able to make the tag and Animal comes in and cleans house throwing both Dudleyz to the outside.

It's D-Von rather than Buh Buh who climbs back in to the ring, but by this point it seems that the referee doesn't even care. Animal hits D-Von with a scoop powerslam and then picks him up for hawk to jump off the top and execute the DOOMSDAY DEVICE! With Buh-Buh dazed on the outside, Animal is able to pin D-Von for the 3-count.

#1 Contender for TV Title Match
Perry Saturn vs. Lance Storm vs. Chris Candido vs. Ken Shamrock
This match features four of the most technically gifted wrestlers in ECW today. Bitter rivals Lance Storm and Chris Candido open up this elimination match. Storm quickly executes a kick to Candido's gut followed by a DDT. Candido quickly decides that he wants no part of Storm at this present time and tags out to Ken Shamrock. Never one to turn down a fight, Shamrock dives in to the ring and starts punching Storm. Lance is able to fight out, though, hitting Shamrock with a series of kicks to the stomach and chest. But when getting him in position for what looks to be a piledriver, Shamrock reverses it and hits a back body drop.

Storm tags out to Saturn and Saturn comes in ready to brawl. He irish whips Shamrock into the corner, but the referee mistakenly stepped in the way at the last second and was knocked out. From there, pandemonium ensued. All 4 men entered the ring taking turns beating on each other. Though Shamrock and Candido were both fan favorites, this did not stop them from lashing out against one another. As the referee regains consciousness and restores order, it's Saturn and Candido who remain in the ring. Candido has the upper hand, though, as he gets Saturn up on the ropes and executes a DDT off the top turnbuckle. 1-2-3 and Saturn is out.

Shamrock quickly enters the ring and stuns Candido with a snap suplex following quickly after by a power bomb. Candido is able to tag out to the hesitant Storm, but Lance comes in to see if he can have better luck against Shamrock. Candido stays in the ring as well, and for a moment the two appear to work as a team working on Shamrock. This does not last long, though, as Storm hits a kick to Candido's chin as soon as they got Shamrock down. With Shamrock on the ground, Storm locks in the Canadian Maple Leaf and surprisingly enough makes Shamrock submit.

Now it's just Candido vs. Storm as it seems to be so often as of late. The two are so familiar with each other's styles due to their encounters over the last few weeks that it looks like poetry being written out in the ring. Each know the strengths and weaknesses of their opponent and look to exploit them. But it's Storm with the advantage on this night as he goes at the knees of Candido. Like deja vu, once he has Candido on the ground he quickly locks in the Canadian Maple Leaf and forces his opponent to submit. Lance Storm will face Shane Douglas for the ECW TV Title at HostileCity Showdown.

Now it's time for Paul Heyman to announce the main event for the evening. While earlier in the show he came out to the ring to do so, this time he stayed in the backstage area.

"I have spent the greater part of tonight's show trying to figure out a main event that is worthy of capping these other two contests. And while it's hard to do, I think I've got the perfect idea. Sabu, you have expressed a lot of displeasure with the way you have been used as of late. You're one of the top stars we have, but quite frankly your holier than thou attitude is wearing extremely thin with me and the rest of the guys in the locker room. But I am a fair man, so I'm going to humor you and let you share the main event... Against none other than ECW World Champion RAVEN!

Now before you get too excited, this is a non-title bout. But there is one big condition... If you don't prove your worth by winning this match, you are suspended without pay for the rest of the month. I'm using you the way you want to be used. Now go out there and show me you deserve it."

Main Event
Sabu vs. Raven
Sabu comes to the ring visibly surprised and shaken by Heyman's announcement that he would be competing against Raven for, essentially, his job. But once the match starts, he appears in a completely different state-of-mind and looks as crisp as ever. Sabu throws Raven into the ropes and then hits him with a hip toss. Raven quickly climbs back to his feet, though, and starts hitting Sabu with a series of rights and lefts. With Sabu on the ground, Raven takes the opportunity to bring some weapons in to the ring and grabs a couple of chairs. As Sabu climbs to his feet, Raven hits him with two quick chairshots to the head. On the ground, Raven uses the chair to hit at Sabu's legs. It does not look like he's going to be able to get up. Raven takes his time tauning the crowd before going for the pin, and this proves costly as Sabu kicks out at two. Sabu somehow gathers the strength to climb to his feet and elbows Raven to the face repeatedly.

After an irish whip in to the ropes, Sabu connects with a powerful back body drop that looked like it threw Raven 10 feet in the air. Now it's Sabu's turn to use the chair. He positions it on Raven's face, climbs to the top, and connects with an ARABIAN FACEBUSTER! Sabu is hurt, himself, but able to make the pin. 1...2....3! Sabu wins and will NOT be suspended. His happiness is short lived, though, as Rob Van Dam comes out and hits the Five-Star Frog Splash on Sabu before he was able to stand. RVD stands in the ring doing his signature point at himself and mouthing "ROB... VAN... DAM" as the camera fades to black.

Good stuff Josh - got to love heel RVD. A little surprised Shamrock didn't take the four way, but Lance Storm is perfectly acceptable. Looking forward to seeing who else Heyman plans to bring in.

ECW Hardcore TV
Saturday, March 15, 1997
Announcers: Joey Styles and Paul Heyman

Tonight's show opens again with Paul Heyman coming out to the wrong. There's an excited sense of wonder in the air, with the fans wondering who the new Commissioner is going to be. As Paul steps in to the ring, it's time to get our answer. Paul quietens the chanting crowd to make his big announcement.

"ECW fans... Tonight's the night. I know you all have spent the past few days wondering, and God knows I'm not one to keep a secret -- Especially one of this magnitude. So it's been eating me up inside to keep this under wraps for this long. But now I got to get it off my chest... And what better time to do so than the opening of ECW Hardcore TV in our brand new time slot!

Being the Commissioner of ECW is not an easy task. It takes one hell of a crazy son of a bitch to be able to manage all these crazy sons of bitches. And we felt like only one man could take on that challenge... So without further ado, I'm going to take my place at the commentary table and give you your new ECW Commissioner -- HARLEY RACE!"

Heyman exits the ring as Harley Race walks down the entrance way to a mixed reaction from the crowd. The wrestling historians knew of Race and his legacy, but the younger fans looked puzzled as to who this man was. Never-the-less, all looked willing to embrace the new and listen to what Race had to say.

"Thanks, Paul. For those of you who don't know, my name is Harley Race. I've been in the wrestling business since before most of you were born, and I know more about this business than just about any of you. I've feuded with the Funk brothers, held more titles than the great Lou Thesz, and played with the big boys in every company you can name. But I'm not here to play today. I'm here to get this struggling promotion off the ground... And make no mistake about it, this franchise is struggling. No offense Paul, but you obviously have no idea what the hell you are doing when it comes to running a wrestling organization.

So my the Harley Race era begins tonight. And this era is going to be built on challenge and competition. So to the fellas back in the locker room, whichever of you thinks you are the toughest that ECW has to offer, I've got a proposition for you -- A match tonight against a mystery opponent. If you've got the guts to come down and face the unknown, you'll have your chance tonight.

And why wait until this Sunday for the TV title to be put on the line? Shane Douglas, you'd best be ready to defend that title against Lance Storm tonight. The game has changed, boys."

With that, Race dropped the microphone to the ground and stepped out of the ring with a sadistic looking smile on his face. The fans looked more confused than ever... On one hand, they looked excited at the possibilities for what was ahead. On the other hand, Harley gave the impression that he might do something to change the brand that they loved -- And he backhandedly insulted Paul Heyman. Never-the-less, they cheered.

The Eliminators vs. The Pitbulls
This was a pretty fast match, mostly dominated by The Eliminators. Kronus opened the match with a neckbreaker on Pitbull #2, and immediately tagged to Saturn who came in and hit a few belly-to-belly suplexes. Saturn then hit a delayed brainbuster. The Eliminators tagged back and forth and took turns beating each of the Pitbulls. Near the end, it looked like the Pitbulls may be taking away some of the momentum with an Irish Whip of Saturn in to the ropes, but he's able to reverse it and hit the Death Valley driver. Saturn gets the pin, and The Eliminators win.

Backstage Interview w/ Paul Ellering & LOD
"Saturn and Kronus, that was a decent performance... But it wasn't against decent competition. The Pitbulls? They're hardly a serious threat. You thought it would be a good idea to sneak attack me here in my dressing room a few weeks ago... Did you honestly believe I was going to be that easy to get rid of? Did you seriously believe that the Legion of Doom did not have my back? Did you POSSIBLY THINK that attacking me was going to give you any edge at all going in to your match last month against these guys? If that's the way your brain works, you guys are dumber than I ever imagined. But I'm back now, and my boys are wanting to avenge a little more blood in my name. So if you're up for it, how about a LOD/Eliminators rematch at HostileCity Showdown? WHAT A RUSH!"

Mike Awesome vs. Mystery Opponent
It was Mike Awesome who accepted Harley Race's challenge as the toughest man in ECW. His opponent? Jim Neidhart.

Neidhart received a big pop from the fans, but that was about the only good thing about this match. It was the quintessential pissing contest, and Neidhart won. That's about all I feel like saying for this one.

Shane Douglas vs. Lance Storm
Douglas and Storm show with this match that they truly are the class of ECW. My admitted hatred for writing matches is becoming more and more apparent with this entry, so I will only say that the match was hugely back and forth with neither wrestler getting the upperhand. It ended with Ken Shamrock making an appearance and a huge brawl breaking out. The match was declared a no contest with nobody winning, and the three of them fought until after the cameras faded out.

I started watching ECW very late at night around this time period, and I'm glad to see you're doing this one. One of the awesome things you seem to be doing is adding an air of unpredictability. Part of the problem of being a company this small is that when your main guys get elevated, they leave, but you also have a revolving door of certain talent which ensures you're always going to have surprises. Can't wait to see who comes in next, and loving the additions so far. Jim Neidhart always seemed to me to be a great fit in the early-ish days of ECW, and Harley Race immediately gives you a tough presence on screen to run things.

Well, I thought this was going pretty good. I was about to write the next event, but when I hit next day, this popped up on my screen:

Quote:

ECW today released their General Manager Joshua Slone. Many feel that Slone had to go, as the company was suffering an alarming slump in fortunes. The mismanagement of Joshua Slone is being blamed for this. We'll have more news on this story at a later date.

So you will not be seeing the debut of Muta...
Or the ECW debut of Stone Cold...

You give a company an earlier time slot and sign some of the biggest stars in wrestling and continue to make money and they fire you... Bastards.

RIP compo. :(
