I bet Paul Heyman wishes he had a mod who could bring ECW back magically. :shifty: But yeah, bring it back! |

With the drama that has effected ECW over this last week, it was hard to imagine things continuing as they were... Some fallout due to the on again/off again relationship that ECW has had with their General Manager: Harley Race has left the company, signing instead with the WWF. Paul Heyman has left the company, signing instead with the WWF. America One has dropped Hardcore TV. This is all very unfortunate news leading up to HostileCity Showdown, and the card for this event has suffered due to the confusion over who would be handling the booking. We understand that behind the scenes at ECW they are looking for the right fit to be the next Commissioner and head booker. We also understand that they are trying to land a new TV deal. The guys in the locker room know that at this point they aren't promised tomorrow, but want to make sure they put on a good show tonight. |

HostileCity Showdown Saturday, March 23, 1997 Announcer(s): Joey Styles After a brief pyro display, the show is under way. Joey Styles enters the arena and the ring to address the fans. "The last 8 days have been one hell of a rollercoaster ride. We've gone from the euphoria of having Paul Heyman sitting beside me at my table calling the matches and the great Harley Race running the show to having no TV deal and no sense of leadership. And you're probably sitting there in your seat wondering how the hell all this happened. well, I know... And never one to be short on things to say, I'm going to share that unfortunate truth with you now. Paul Heyman has known we were about to lose our Hardcore TV deal for a while now. He negotiated an earlier time slot knowing we would not be able to get the ratings that America One was expecting of us to keep that deal in place. With this dirty deed done, he stepped aside to bring in Harley Race to run the show and finish sinking the ship. All the while, Paul knew that liquidating the company of its talent was the plan. Paul has been calling WCW and WWF gauging their interest in the locker room talent. Then he's been going back to the talent and telling them how much he'd hate to see them leave while at the same time pushing them out the fucking door. Do you think Tommy Dreamer wanted to leave? Do you think Terry Funk wanted to leave? No. But they let Paul in their heads... He told them about how they were the cornerstones of ECW but how some offers are good to refuse. And they're gone. And what does Paul get for his troubles? A percentage of their contract for acting as their agent. So like I said, Paul brought Harley Race in so he could keep sucking the talent out of ECW without drawing as much attention to himself. Harley was going to serve as a scapegoat for Paul when guys like Raven, Taz, Lance Storm, and The Sandman inevitably left. If Paul's doing commentary beside me, nobody is going to think it's HIM at fault when everyone leaves and our product starts to suffer. They'll all blame Harley when we fail. It makes perfect sense! And Harley knew about! But what Paul could not see is that not everyone is as greedy as him. Not everyone can't look past the dollar signs to see that they're already a part of something great. So Sabu, Rob Van Dam, The Dudleyz... They all told Paul they were fine here. America One gave us the boot earlier than Paul expected. But the boys still said no. We don't need Paul Heyman, we don't need Harley Race, we don't need any washed up no good sons-of-bitches to sell us out at the first chance. You can try and make ECW an undesirable place to work for those of us who work here. You can set us up to fail... But we will prosper. Losing our TV deal was a setback, but losing Paul Heyman was the best thing that could have happened to ECW. So sit back and enjoy tonight's show. Some of these matches you may have expected to see, some you may not have expected to see... But it's a new dawn, and we're going to have fun tonight." That said, Styles exited the ring to a huge pop and the start of an E-C-W chant from the crowd. Taking his rightful place behind the announcer's table, we're ready to begin tonight's show. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Ian Rotten vs. Axl Rotten Tables Match This match saw the surprise return of Ian Rotten to face his brother Axl. After some classic matches throughout 1995, they wanted to see if they could rekindle their old chemistry. And they were not disappointed. This particular bout was a tables match. The only way to win is to put your opponent through a table... By any means necessary. The match opened with Axl hitting Ian with a forearm to the face. The two exchange blows, but Ian is the first to fall to the ground. With Ian dazed, Axl goes out ringside and brings the first table in to the ring. Axl gets Ian ready for what likely would have been a power bomb through the table, but Ian reverses it and hits his Axl with a backdrop. Ian is the first to rise to his feet, and hits a shoulder tackle on Axl as he stands, knocking him back to the ground. Ian then picks up Axl and hits him with a piledriver that looked somewhat botched and may have knocked Axl out. Axl begins to come around while Ian was setting the table up exactly how he wanted it. Sneaking up behind Ian, Axl hits him with a hard elbow to the back of the head. Axl then connects with a hard DDT, slamming Ian's head into the mat. Axl lifts Ian up on to the table and then climbs up himself. Now it's Axl's turn to go through a piledriver and he connects with it, smashing the table and winning the match. As Ian comes around, the two shake hands after putting on what they felt was a very exciting match. Could this mean The Bad Breed is back together?! Spoiler: click to toggle Overall Match Rating: 79% _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Chris Candido vs. Rob Van Dam This was not supposed to be a hardcore bout, but the referee seemed set on letting anything happen on this particular evening. The match had been going on for all of 30 seconds when Van Dam left the ring and grabbed a chair. Candido did not let him use it at first, though, connecting with a drop kick on RVD as soon as he climbed back in to the ring. Chris looked to be doing everything in his ability to keep this match legit, but he was quickly denied as RVD recovered and connected with a chair shot to Candido's head. After hitting the downed Candido with another chair shot to the back, RVD placed the chair on top of Candido's skull and connected with a leg drop off the top rope. RVD goes for the pin, but gets only a two count as Candido somehow manages to kick out of that devastating blow. RVD does not argue the count and immediately lifts Candido back to his feet. DDT on to a chair! This one looks like it may be over. But somehow Candido manages to kick out again. This time RVD looks upset and begins to argue with the referee, giving Candido time to get back to his feet. Candido now has the chair in his hands and stuns RVD with a shot to the back of his distracted head. RVD wastes no time getting back to his feet where he is met with yet another dropkick from Candido. Candido climbs to the top for a flying headbutt, but RVD rolls out of the way in the nick of time, causing Candido to hit only the mat. With the chance to steal a victory, RVD climbs to the ropes for the Frog Splash, but it's Candido's turn for a reversal and he gets his knees up, knocking the wind out of Van Dam. As both competitors lay dazed on the mat, the referee begins the ten count. RVD is the first to rise, after 8 seconds, and he goes back to te chair offensive beating Candido with it incessantly. Candido looks like he's knocked completely out, but RVD has a point to prove and again climbs the top rope and goes for the Five-Star Frog Splash. This time he connects, and pins Candido for the 1-2-3. Spoiler: click to toggle Overall Match Rating: 86% _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Eliminators vs. The Road Warriors ECW Tag Title Match As requested on last week's Hardcore TV, this match is a rematch of last month's Cyberslam event. The only difference this time is that Paul Ellering is at ringside instead of in a hospital bed. Again, it's Hawk and Saturn in the ring to begin the match. They exchange blows, but Saturn hits a body slam on Animal, taking him to the ground. Wasting no time, Saturn stays on the offensive and starts stomping at Animal's left knee. It looks like the concept is to try and take Animal's legs out so he will not have the strength to lift someone up for the Doomsday Device, which appears to be a sound strategy. After a series of stomps and leg drops to the knee, Saturn tags out to Kronus who comes in for his turn at some dirty work. Kronus pulls Animal to his feet, but before he can go on the offensive Animal kicks him in the gut and nails a DDT taking Kronus down to the mat. Animal limps to the corner and tags in to the fresher Hawk. Hawk lifts Kronus and irish whips him in to the ropes, and connects an arm drag as he bounces off. The two exchange blows before Hawk executes a body slam and tags out to Animal. Animal enters the ring with a running clothesline on Saturn as he is standing. Animal looks to the crowd and begins to pose, but he's a little too close to the Eliminators corner and Kronus comes off the top rope with a bulldog taking the big man down to the mat. It's now The Eliminators turn to do some damage. As Animal climbs back to his feet, Saturn hits him with a brainbuster and follows this up with multiple kicks to Animal as he lays on the ground. Saturn tags out to Kronus who wants to continue to go to work on Animal, but he's met in the ring by Hawk who is prepared to defend his partner. Hawk hits an Irish Whip and arm drag as Kronus bounces off the ropes. Hawk then lifts Kronus up and takes him back down with a hard vertical suplex. Hawk goes for the pin, but it's broken up by Saturn with a shot to Hawk's back. Animal then runs in to the ring and fights Saturn off. It's deja vu as all hell breaks loose in the ring. Saturn throws Animal over the ropes and out of the ring, and this gives he and Kronus a perfect opportunity to gang up on Hawk. Kronus holds Hawk up while Saturn runs in for a pierce punch, but Hawk manages to duck just in time and Saturn accidentally nails Kronus instead, knocking Kronus to the ground. Insisting on order, the referee forces Saturn to exit the ring. Hawk climbs back to his feet and pulls Kronus up for a power bomb. He goes for the pin and barely gets the 3 count before Saturn is able to break it up. The Road Warriors win! The celebration is cut short, though. The Eliminators, furious about their loss, are prepared for some revenge. Saturn throws a chair in to the ring and Kronus uses it to beat Hawk with. On the outside, a similar happening is occurring with Saturn on Animal. Eventually, security and backstage officials are able to break the beatings up, but Hawk and Animal are left bleeding while Ellering stands stunned and confused. Spoiler: click to toggle Overall Match Rating: 86% _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Lance Storm vs. Ken Shamrock vs. Shane Douglas ECW TV Title Match This match was originally supposed to be a singles match between Douglas and Storm for the TV title. However, Boss-For-An-Hour Harley Race insisted on moving the bout up to last week's Hardcore TV. Shamrock broke up that match, and thus here we are with these three competing with Douglas' gold on the line. Shamrock opens the match with a running clothesline to Douglas. Douglas goes down, and Shamrock jumps on top of him with punches to the face. Storm uses this opportunity to kick Shamrock in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground as well. Storm goes for a pin on Douglas, but he kicks out after 2. Storm then attempts to pin Shamrock, but he kicks out after only a 1 count. Douglas climbs to his feet, but he's met by a stiff kick to the jaw from Storm. Shamrock also recovers and gets slams Storm to the mat, where he then applies an armlock. After Storm gets a leg on the rope, Shamrock breaks the hold and climbs to his feet where he is met by a spear from Douglas. Douglas takes too much time showboating, though, allowing Lance Storm to recover and hit him with another hard kick to the chin. Shamrock has also managed to come back to his feet, and he rolls Storm up with a pin from behind, but Storm kicks out. Shamrock lifts him to his feet and hits a belly-to-belly suplex. With Douglas still on the ground and Storm dazed from the suplex, Shamrock takes the opportunity to slap the ankle lock on Douglas. Douglas reaches for the ropes, to no avail. Douglas taps! Ken Shamrock has won the ECW TV Title! Spoiler: click to toggle Overall Match Rating: 81% _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As Shamrock is spotted celebrating his victory in the back, he is sneak attacked by both Storm and Douglas. This two-on-one attack proves too much for the new champion, as he was not able to fight them off at all after the initial blow. Candido runs in to help, but by this point Douglas and Storm have run off. Overall Segment Rating: 81% _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Raven vs. Mike Awesome ECW World Title Match Raven opens the match with a punch to Awesome. He tries for a kick, but his foot is caught by Awesome, and he flips Raven to the ground. Raven recovers quickly and ducks a running clothesline from Awesome. As Awesome bounces back off the ropes, Raven hits a dropkick and takes Awesome to the mat. This was a back and forth competition throughout, but nobody in the crowd expected what happened next. The Great Muta ran from the crowd and into the ring. He climbs to the top rope and hits Awesome with a flying moonsault. Raven runs over to see what the hell is going on, but gets red mist spit into his face. The referee declares the match a no contest, as Muta continues beating on Raven. It's clear he has come to ECW on a mission... And the mission is to take the ECW World Title! Spoiler: click to toggle Overall Match Rating: 60% Overall Show Rating: 79% And with that, HostileCity Showdown has come to an end. It's not yet known if ECW will have another televised event between this show and the huge Barely Legal PPV on April 27, but with over a month to go between now and then, the locker room remains hopeful. |

Yeah, it kind of sucks to be going in a certain direction and then WHAM! No TV show, lost a few of your main guys, and such. I have no doubt that whatever else you do will be entertaining though, if it's anything like this. |
