WCW - Under New Management

The End of an Era

In late 2000, the once dominant WCW had declined and had lost money hand over fist. It was becoming evident that a buyout was going to be needed, even Ted Turner himself knew it was only a matter of time. As 2000 came to a close, a number of potential buyers for WCW were rumored to show interest in the company. Ted Turner, however, was still in charge of Time Warner prior to the final merger of AOL and Time Warner in 2001, and most offers were rejected. Eric Bischoff, working with Fusient Media Ventures, made a bid to acquire the company in January 2001 (shortly following the AOL/Time Warner merger), and it appeared that WCW would continue.

One of the primary backers in the WCW deal backed out, however, leaving Fusient to take that offer off the table while it attempted to bring a new deal around. In the meantime, the World Wrestling Federation began speaking to the new AOL Time Warner about acquiring the WCW brand. Jamie Kellner was handed control over the Turner Broadcasting division, and deemed WCW wrestling to be out of line with their image. As a result, WCW programming was canceled on both TBS and TNT - leaving whoever purchased the company without a television show.

Under New Management

Vince McMahon's talks with AOL Time Warner seemed to indicate the CEO would soon have both brands under his name and literally control the entire wrestling industry.

But not so fast, Vince...you weren't the only McMahon in talks with AOL time Warner!

Your own son, Shane McMahon, had been talking with Jamie Kellner himself - and with the desire to step out from his father's shadow and show that he could run a company himself...in a move that actually made Vince proud, Shane outbid his father and took over the rights to the WCW brand.

Going Forward

Shane's first order of business would be to find a TV station willing to air WCW Nitro. Ultimately, he hoped to show outdo his father and take WCW back to the top of the wrestling industry...but for now he just needed to set the sinking ship back in the right direction. So if that meant Nitro wouldn't be on Monday's, head to head with Raw, that would be okay for now. And perhaps best for business. But first he just had to find the right network.

In the meantime, in order to keep intrest alive for WCW...he quickly booked up a venue to air a Pay-Per-View at the end of April to showcase the WCW talent. The price of the PPV would be significantly lower than the usual price in hopes to bring in some new and old fans.

It was a new beginning for WCW...and changes would certainly be on the way...

April News & Notes

-Spring Stampede-

Shane McMahon is continuing with his plans of running Spring Stampede even without a weekly television show. He has purchased a lot of advertising time to promote the event on all the major cable outlets. The show will be headlined by Booker T defending the WCW World Title. The number one contender will be determined earlier in the event between Scott Steiner, Ric Flair, and Sting.

-United Stated Title Vacated-

With Booker T's title win at the final Nitro on TNT, Shane McMahon has announced the United States Title has been vacated! A one night tournament will take place at Spring Stampede to determine a new United States Champion. The four men competing for the title will be Dustin Rhodes, Lance Storm, Hugh Morrus, and Shane Douglas.

The WCW Hardcore Title has been suspended until further notice. Shane McMahon is apparently not sure if he wants to retire the belt all together or if he will attempt to create a legitimate hardcore division.

-Georgia Championship Wrestling-

Shane McMahon has promised changes, but he also has announced he will not be moving WCW headquarters from Atlanta. He will be setting up shop there as well. He has also announced that he has worked out a deal with Georgia Championship Wrestling to be a development territory. Arn Anderson has been assigned as the head booker.

Air Paris, AJ Styles, and Jason Jett have been assigned to GCW from the current active roster.

Indy talent signed to WCW under developmental deals include: Trinity, Cassidy O'Reilly, Sonjay Dutt, Brent Albright, Johnny Jeter, Jason Neidhart, Gail Kim, Paul London, Rene Dupree, Lance Cade, and Desire.

Killer Kowlaski has been hired by McMahon to head up the WCW Powerplant which will continue to serve as a training ground for young wrestlers.

CUTS!

-Long time WCW announcer David Penzer has been let go by the company.
-Announcer Mark Madden has been let go as well.
-Backstage reporter Pamela Paulshock has been terminated.

Spring Cleaning for WWF

-WWF has done some house cleaning of it's own...mostly to it's development territory. Although some notable staff firings included: Lillian Garcia, Tony Chimel, Howard Finkel, Jonathan Coachman, Bruce Pritchard, Sgt. Slaughter.

-WCW helped itself to a few of WWF's castoffs to sign GCW. The Haas Brothers and the Island Boys have been signed to GCW under development contracts.

Scott Steiner Checks into Rehab - Spring Stampede Implications

-Shane McMahon's WCW just had a big "blow" as former WCW Champion Scott Steiner has come out and admit to a cocaine addiction. He has been sent to rehab, leaving an open spot in the number one contender's match at Spring Stampede. Shane McMahon has announced that former champion Diamond Dallas Page will take Steiner's spot in the Triple Threat.

Spring Stampede
April 29, 2011
Announcers: Tony Shiavone & Mike Tenay

Tony Shiavone welcomed us and thanked us for sticking with World Championship Wrestling during this transitional period. Tonight they planned on showcasing the top talent they have to offer and promised they'd be back on television before we knew it.

United States Title Tournament
Dustin Rhodes vs. Lance Storm

These two didn't really seem to click with each other's style - and the match quality suffered because of it. Storm was in control for most of the match, working over Rhodes with restholds, especially targeting his knees. Storm continued to dominate the match, eventually locking in the Canadian Maple Leaf to Rhodes - but Rhodes refused to tap out. The crowd got behind Rhodes, allowing him to crawl his way to the ropes to grab ahold of the bottom rope to break the hold up. A frustrated Storm became unrevaled, allowing Rhodes to fightt his way back into the match, brawling his way to his feet. Rhodes finished Storm off with the Bionic elbow followed by the Curtain Call for the victory.
WINNER - Dustin Rhodes by pinfall
(70/78/79)

United States Title Tournament
Hugh Morrus vs. Shane Douglas

Some slow brawling early gave Morrus the upperhand until Douglas snuck in some underhanded cheap shots to slow the big man down. Douglas worked over the big man's legs and back to try and keep him grounded and unable to use his size and power advantage. However, Morrus would fight his way back especially after Douglas attempt at a crossbody was caught by Morrus. Morrus powerslammed Douglas to the mat, but only got a two count. Morrus began to ride a wave of momentum that looked like it might carry him to the finals for a shot at the US Title. After a sidewalk slam, he began to climb to the top turnbuckle. Morrus came off the top looking for the No Laughing Matter, but got nothing but canvas after Douglas rolled out of the way! Douglas got back to his feet as Morrus stumbled up. A kick to the midsection set Morrus up for the Pittsburgh Plunge for the victory!
WINNER - Shane Douglas by pinfall
(55/63/63)

The Champ Speaks
Backstage, Scott Hudson was standing by with the World Champion Booker T. Hudson wanted to get Booker T's thoughts on the triple threat match tonight. Booker T said that all three men in the match have been champions on multiple occassions, but so has he. He has respect for all three of them, and deservedly so. But he hopes they have as much respect for him as he does for them - because he's ready for any of them - it doesn't matter which one advances to face him tonight in the main event...because it will still be Booker T walking out as champion!
(92%)

Number One Contender's Match
Sting vs. Ric Flair vs. Diamond Dallas Page

"The Professor" Mike Tenay highlighted each man's history with the World Championship as they made their entrances. Each man received loud pops upon their entrance - as our last memory of Flair was a respect match against Sting on the last Nitro, presumably turning Flair face. The match started out with a wild start, with them just trading rights and lefts and knife edge chops amongst each other. Sting went for an early Stinger splash, but DDP countered it by catching Sting as he came in and tossing him over the top rope to the floor! Page and Flair traded rights and lefts, but an eye poke from Flair blinded Page allowing Flair to take control. Flair acted innocent when questioned by Charles Robinson and went back on the attack. Flair's heel tendancies were starting to show as the match wore on, and the crowd began to become uneasy when reacting to Flair. Flair worked over Page while Sting finally began to show signs of life on the outside. Sting rolled back into the ring and caught Flair off guard with a back suplex. Sting made the cover but only got a two count.

Sting continued on the offensive, picking up a few more nearfalls on Flair before Page recovered and locked in a sleeperhold to Sting. Sting tried to fight it off, but began to pass out from Page's hold. As Robinson checked in on Sting, Flair snuck up behind them and gave them both an uppercut to the groin! Page and Sting both fell to the mat as Flair began to receive boos from the crowd. Flair pulled Sting to the center of the ring and locked on the Figure Four leglock. Sting tried to fight his way to the ropes, and eventually managed to summon the strength to roll over and put the pressure onto Flair! Page came in and broke up the hold with an elbow drop. Sting and Flair both stumbled to their feet and Page took them both out with a double discuss clothesline.

It looked like DDP might be advancing to the main event when he lifted Flair up into a fireman's carry. He spun Flair around into the Diamond Cutter...but Flair's feet knocked Robinson to the mat! Page made the cover but there was no referee to make the count. Sting broke up the count and went on the offensive to Page, hitting a pair of Stinger splashes in two opposite corners before dropping Page with the Scorpion Deathdrop! Sting made the cover, but still no referee! Sting turned his attention for Flair, who was begging Sting not to, but Sting attacked him anyway and dropped Flair to the mat with a bodyslam before starting to lock him into the Scorpion Deathlock. Suddenly Curt Hennig came from the back to the surprise of everyone. "What's he doing back in WCW?!" Tony Shiavone DEMANDED to know.

Hennig approached the ring, climbing in and drawing the attention of Sting. Sting seemed to have the same questions Shiavone and the world had...but the distracted Sting allowed Flair to recover...and he hit Sting from behind with a chopblock while Hennig attacked Sting with a clothesline! Hennig picked Sting up and hit him with the HennigPlex before shaking Robinson to get him alert enough to notice Flair making the cover...One...Two...Three!
WINNER - RIC FLAIR by pinfall via interference
(73/89/69)

After the match, Hennig re-entered the ring and lifted up Flair's arm in victory, both receiving boos from the crowd. With Hennig's return to WCW and alignment with Flair - Flair finds himself in the main event of Spring Stampede to compete for the World Championship against Booker T! Could tonight be the night Flair becomes a 17 time champion?

Cruiserweight Battle Royal

Shane Helms came out first with the Cruiserweight title along with Vertebreaker backup dancers. Helms joined Mike Tenay and Tony Shiavone at the announce booth to help them call the match and for him to get a closer look at the competition.

(77%) - Shane Helms gained overness.

The challengers in this 10-man over the top rope battle royal were: Chavo Guerrero Jr, Crowbar, Shannon Moore, Evan Karagias, Kash, Jason Jett, Yang, Jamie Noble, Lash LeRoux, and Elix Skipper.

The action was fast and furious from the opening bell, as almost immediately - Jason Jett was sent over the rope rope thanks to a rana from Yang. Karagias and Moore had the upperhand early, as they were the only teammates in the battle royal and were working together very well. Helms had plenty to say about his former 3-count mates. Moore and Karagias worked together to toss Lash LeRoux from the competition. Meanwhile, in the corner, Jamie Noble was putting a beating to Crowbar...but Crowbar seemed to be smiling, enjoying his beating. Kash came over and joined in, but both were caught off guard by Elix Skipper who came out of nowhere with a spinning heel kick that sent Kash over the top rope to the floor.

Chavo nearly found himself eliminated after going for the Tornado DDT only to have Karagias block it and set Chavo out on the apron. Chavo fought his way back in, and springboarded back into the ring and rolled up Karagias. Karagias got back to his feet and was hit with a dropkick from Chavo. Jamie Noble had Skipper set up for a powerbomb..he attempted to run with him and powerbomb him out of the ring, but Skipper reversed it into a rana that send both men over the top rope - but Skipper landed on the apron while Noble hit the floor. But with Skipper on the apron, this was the perfect opportunity for Karagias and Moore who took advantage and hit a double dropkick to Skipper - sending him off the apron to the floor.

Elsewhere, Crowbar sent Yang packing, lifting him up for a vertical suplex only to drop him down across the top rope and then superkick him off the ropes to the floor! The final four was down to Evan Karagias, Shannon Moore, Crowbar, and Chavo. Crowbar charged head on at Karagias and Moore, but they lifted him up and backdroped him over the top rope. Crowbar landed on the apron, unbeknown to the other two. Chavo ducked a double clothesline attempt from Karagias and Moore, and gave Karagas a kick to the midsection. He hooked Karagias for a DDT, then leaped into the air - kicking Moore in the jaw and then DDTing Karagias to the mat. But when Karagias got to his feet he stumbled right into a flying crossbody from Crowbar. Crowbar rolled to his feet as Chavo got back up to the mat. Chavo charged at Crowbar, who sidestepped him and literally tripped Chavo over the top rope to the floor!

Shannon Moore tried to take advantage of Crowbar's momentarily distraction of eliminating Chavo - attacking him from behind. Moore had Crowbar up against the ropes and began struggling to get him over the top rope...but Crowbar was holding on for dear life against the top rope...but as both struggled...Karagias proved to be oportunistic as he scooped up his own partner, giving the momentum to send Crowbar out as well...both men went to the floor as Evan Karagias stood victorious in the ring.
WINNER - Evan Karagias by elimination
(49/43/68)
- This match suffered because the crowd were still pumped up from the last one, and so this bout was seen as something of a let-down to them.

After the match, Evan Karagias indicated to Shane Helms that soon - the Cruiserweight title would be his.

WCW Tag Team Titles Match
Palumbo & O'Haire (c) vs. The Filthy Animals (w/Torrie Wilson)

The fans gave a good reaction to Mysterio and Kidman, but little reaction to the heel champions as they made their way out. Kidman and Rey had their Cruiserweight tag titles, but little mention was made of them during the match. Instead, the focus was on the tag championships. Palumbo and O'Haire and a very distinct size and power advantage over their cruiserweight contenders, and certainly used that to their advantage as well as some cheap heel tactics as well to keep Kidman isolated from Rey during the match. But an attemp to powerbomb Kidman proved to be a disaster for Palumbo, as he turned it into a faceplant which allowed Kidman to make the hot tag to Rey. Rey came in with a seated senton to the stumbling Palumbo, but only picked up a two count. Rey's momentum lasted briefly until Sean O'Haire got involved. With O'Haire getting the tag from Palumbo, O'Haire took control over Mysterio. He manhandled Mysterio and picked up a few nearfalls, but the plucky underdog that is Mysterio would not stay down. An attempt of a Seanton Bomb from O'Haire failed when Rey rolled out of the way leaving both men down.

Mysterio made the tag to Kidman as O'Haire tagged in Palumbo. Palumbo went for a clothesline, but Kidman ducked and an hooked Palumbo with a running bulldog. Kidman's speed overtook Palumbo, and when O'haire tried to make the save...Rey came flying in with a flying rana that took O'Haire down to the mat and out of the ring. Kidman and Mysterio took advantage of having Palumbo alone in the ring - Rey took to the top rope as Kidman lifted Palumbo up...and they hit a combo wheelbarrow facebuster/Drop of the Dime from Rey! Kidman made the cover to pick up the three count to win the WCW Tag Team Titles!
WINNERS - Filthy Animals by pinfall
(69/69/86)
- WCW Tag Titles have gained in image.

Mysterio and Kidman celebrated with both sets of tag titles as Palumbo and O'Haire regrouped up the aisle.

United States Championship
Dustin Rhodes vs. Shane Douglas

In the finals of the one-night tournament, it would be between Rhodes and Douglas to determine the new United States champion. These two went right at each other from the opening bell, neither man showing any signs of being tired from the opening round matchups. Rhodes hard hitting punches and elbows gave him the early advantage, wearing down Douglas. As the fight spilled to ringside, Douglas reversed an Irish Whip and sent Rhodes crashing into the ring steps. The brawl around ringside proved to be in Douglas' favor as he used the ringside as a weapon so efficiently. Douglas sent Rhodes back into the ring and tried to follow through with a pin - but Rhodes kicked out after two. Douglas continued on the attack, stomping on Rhodes' fingers to keep him from recovering. Rhodes was warned by Billy Silverman, but Douglas ignored him and continued on the offensive.

Douglas would attempt his Pittsburgh Plunge, only to have Rhodes counter with a high knee to Douglas' ribs. Rhodes dropped Douglas with a DDT that seemed to be a last ditch effort on his part, as both men were left down. They staggered to their feet and began exchanging rights and lefts....Rhodes took control and sent Douglas into the corner. Rhodes charged in with a clothesline and then began tying up Douglas' feet in the corner...but Silverman stepped in to warn Rhodes about the "Shattered Dreams" and he'd have to DQ him. Rhodes argued, but as he did..Douglas freed himself and rolled up Rhodes - One, Two, Three!
WINNER - Shane Douglas by pinfall
(66/77/70)
- Dustin Rhodes lost overness from this match. Shane Douglas gained overness from this match.

Shane Douglas immediately left the ring, grabbed the United States Title, and headed up the ramp before Dustin Rhodes could retaliate. Back in the ring, Rhodes was left watching on in disbelief as Douglas lifted the US belt up on the stage.

MAIN EVENT - World Title Match
Booker T (c) vs. Ric Flair (w/Curt Hennig)

Ric Flair was accompanied to the ring by the man who got him into the main event - Curt Hennig. Booker T was sure to keep a close eye on Hennig at ringside during the match. The match started out innocently enough with a lock up which Booker T started to take control right away. Booker T controled the early portion of the match, picking up a couple of nearfalls over the challenger, but when Hennig stuck his nose in trying to interfere, this caught Booker T's attention long enough for Flair to capitalize. Flair attacked Booker T from behind. A couple of atomic drops led to a back suplex from Flair who then began to work over Booker T's knees - not only setting him up for the figure four but potentially making the Axe Kick useless.

Flair would attempt the Figure Four, only to have Booker T grab him into a small package pin for a two count. Booker T tried to fight his way back into the match, but a poke to the eye from Flair grabbed a warning from Nick Patrick but it was enough to slow Booker T down as Flair went back to work on his legs. After a diving knee drop, Flair went for the pin but only got a two count. At ringside, Hennig yelled out that Patrick was counting to slow. Patrick told Hennig to shut up and let him do his job. Flair finally got the champ in the Figure Four, but Booker T still wasn't about to give up. Booker T fought his way through the pain and shouted NO to Patrick each time he asked if he wanted to give up. Finally, Booker T made it to the bottom rope to break up the hold....but had the damage been done?

Flair recovered and headed to the ropes where Booker T was and repeatedly dropped his knee into Booker T's, continuing to weaken his legs. With Booker T down, Flair took time out to strut for the booing crowd. Flair yelled for them to shut up, which Hennig also echoed at ringside. Flair pulled Booker T back to the center of the ring and went for another knee drop, but Booker T rolled out of the way. Booker T amazed the crowd with a spinaroonie to his feet as Flair staggered back up. Booker took Flair off his feet with a Russian Legsweep. Both men were slow back up, but once up, Booker T began unleashing some stiff chops of his own, working Flair over into the corner. Seeing Flair in trouble, Hennig entered the ring and charged at Booker T. Booker ducked away from Hennig's attack and gave Hennig a kick to the midsection followed by the Scissor Kick! But with the damage done to his legs, Booker was down in pain! Hennig rolled out of the ring and Flair tried to capitalize with a pin - One, Two, THre...kickout by Booker T!

Flair once again argued about a slow count, and grabbed Booker T by the hair - pulling him up. Flair lit up Booker's chest with some knife edge chops before bouncing off the ropes. But off the ropes, his clothesline attempt was countered...with the Bookend from Booker T! Booker T made the cover - One, Two, Three!
WINNER - Booker T by pinfall
(82/100/74)

Booker T slowly stumbled to his feet after the match, accepting the WCW World Title from Nick Patrick and holding it up in victory.

Hennig pulled Flair from the ring and the two regrouped, watching in disappointment as Booker T stood tall as the show came to a close.

-Shane McMahon has announced that he has worked out a deal with the WWF's old stomping grounds - the USA Network - to have Nitro air on Tuesday nights in primetime.

-Rumor around the locker room is that a currently employed worker is unhappy with Shane McMahon being the new owner of WCW and is looking to get out of his contract.

-Rumor also has it that a WWF star with close ties to Shane McMahon has joined Shane in coming over to WCW. This WWF star is expected to debut on the first Nitro under new management.

-Speaking of close ties to Shane McMahon, Pete Gas and Rodney of the Mean Street Posse have been signed to development contracts and will be a part of GCW.

-It looks like Shane McMahon wants to put on a huge first Nitro to get people talking about WCW...look for several title matches including a WCW World Championship Title match.

-Shane McMahon was not happy with some quality issues with the PPV. It looks like a change to the announce team could be coming as soon as the first Nitro.

WCW Tuesday Nitro
May 1, 2001

Announcers: Mike Tenay and Glenn Gilbertti

No Tony Shiavone to be found as the new Tuesday Nitro on the USA network kicked off. Instead we were greeted by the familiar sound of Mike Tenay who was now joined by Disco Inferno, or as he was introduced - Glenn Gilbertti.

Welcome To Nitro

Shane McMahon made his way down to the ring to a revamped and redesigned version of his "Here Comes the Money" theme. McMahon receives mostly cheers from the crowd as he made his first appearance on screen since the final Nitro on TNT in April.

McMahon welcomed us to the new era of WCW and welcomed WCW Nitro to USA - he wanted to get things kicked off right for USA, so he wanted to make sure he puts on a great show. He said we'll have two title matches tonight as Palumbo & O'Haire will get their title rematch against new champions, the Filthy Animals. On top of that, in tonight's main event - Booker T would be defending the WCW World Title - and there are a few surprises and other announcements along the way.

But first, the WCW World Title...after Spring Stampede, he needs to decide a new number one contender for the World Title...

"Also Sprach Zarathustra" played bringing out Ric Flair and Curt Hennig from the back to loud boos from the crowd.

Flair took the microphone first, and said he would get to Shane-o in a second. But first, he wanted to shake Curt Hennig's hand and welcome him back to WCW. Hennig took the microphone and said it was good to be back, except for having to look at all these fans. Hennig went on to bash his previous West Texas Redneck gimmick, saying how much he hated having to associate with rednecks like these. Hennig said when he had the opportunity to come back and be associated with true class like Ric Flair...it was a no brainer.

Ric Flair took the microhpone back and said he was demanding another title shot. He said the playing field was not even at Spring Stampede. He had already wrestling one grueling match and had to turn around and face a fresh Booker T. If the playing field was evened, Flair would've wiped the floor with Booker T.

Shane McMahon reminded Ric Flair that he may have been "CEO" of WCW a while ago..he isn't the one calling the shots anymore. And it's not up to him who gets what matches and what title shots. Shane McMahon gets the final say...

"Don't Hate the Playa" hit the PA System as the WCW Champion himself, Booker T made his way down to the ring with the gold belt firmly around his waist.

Booker T asked if, as champion, he had any say in it. Shane offered Booker T to make his case. Booker said that he may have already beaten Flair cleanly once, but if Flair wants to hold it above his head saying he wasn't fresh...Booker T doesn't want to let that taint any victory of his. He would have no problem beating Flair again tonight with both men at 100% so there would be no doubt in anyone's mind.

Shane McMahon said that if Booker T agreed to it, he has no problem making that tonight's main event. Mike Tenay hyped up the huge main event for the first WCW Tuesday Nitro on USA as it would be Booker T vs. Ric Flair for the WCW Title!

WCW Tag Titles Match
The Filthy Animals (c) (w/Konnan and Torrie) vs. Palumbo & O'Haire

In Palumbo and O'Haire's big rematch...both men seemed to be off their game. Palumbo found himself distracted by Torrie at ringside for most of the match...which in turn was frustrating Sean O'Haire to the point he was literally pulling at his own hair. After O'Haire laid out Mysterio with a back suplex side slam, but when he noticed that Palumbo was paying more attention to Torrie than he was the match. O'Haire began arguing with Palumbo on the apron. Palumbo seemed to indicate he was going to pay more attention, and O'Haire went back on the attack to Mysterio. However, as O'Haire continued on the assault...this time he looked up and Palumbo was off the apron, openly flirting with Torrie at ringside. O'Haire seemed to literally snap, as he began assaulting Rey with no worry about any recourse, he began choking Rey in the corner violently, bringing Kidman over who got tossed over the top rope for his troubles. Referee Billy Silverman called for the bell when he tried to step in and break up the choke, but only got shoved to the mat.
WINNERS - The Filthy Animals by DQ
(77/69/85)

Konnan slid into the ring, but he too was unable to contain O'Haire. O'Haire pulled away from Rey and hit a stiff superkick to Konnan to level him. He then dropped his knee across Konnan's throat and began choking him. Chuck Palumbo climbed into the ring to try and talk his partner down. Palumbo managed to pull O'Haire away from Konnan. Palumbo thought he had calmed his partner down, but that wasn't the case. When he turned his back to O'Haire, the wide eyed and heavy breathing O'Haire grabbed his partner and executed a reverse death valley driver to Palumbo.

O'Haire left the ring with The Filthy Animals struggling to recover and his own partner laid out.

Lemme Attem!

Backstage, both Diamond Dallas Page and Sting were arguing with Shane McMahon - both wanting to get their hands on Curt Hennig and Ric Flair for costing them a shot at the WCW championship at Spring Stampede. McMahon told them both to calm down because he has it under control. If they both want to get their hands on Flair and Hennig...then next week, they can team up and take on Hennig and Flair in tag team action!

Crowbar vs. Lance Storm (w/Mike Awesome)
Storm was accompanied by Mike Awesome, still proudly sporting the Canadian flag despite not actually being Canadian. Crowbar and Storm put on a great little match which could've been amazing if he had been a little bit longer. The match was mainly here to showcase Lance Storm and allow Mike Tenay and Gilbertti to discuss how he is still a force to be reckoned with in WCW despite losing out in the United States Championship tournament at Spring Stampede. Crowbar, as deranged as usual, fought back from Storm's offense and got in some brief high impact, fast paced offense that for a moment made it look like he would pull off the upset...but almost out of nowhere, Storm rolled up Crowbar with the Canadian Maple Leaf. Crowbar was actually smiling while being held in the hold, and was refusing to tap out. But while he would not tap out, he did eventually pass out from the pain which was enough to give Lance Storm the win.
Winner - Lance Storm by submission

Who's Got The Stroke?

"Cowboy" hit the PA system as Jeff Jarrett made his way down to the ring to loud boos from the crowd. Jarrett entered the ring and took the microphone and immediately began bashing Shane McMahon and making his frustrations known to everyone. He said that ever since he came to WCW, he had said he was the one with all the STROKE around WCW...and he used it to get whatever he wanted. And now that there's a new sherrif in town...Jarrett can't help but feel like his role has diminished. As a former multi-time WCW Champion, he was NOWHERE to be seen at Spring Stampede.

So while he was sitting at home on Sunday instead of actually being at the show, he has had plenty of time to read the internet discussion boards and see all the news and rumors Shane McMahon has brought with him. There's one rumor in particular he liked....one about someone close to Shane making the jump from WWF. Just what we need, Jarrett proclaimed, someone who has the boss in his right pocket. And if he's not going to have Stroke and be able to play favorites...nobody should.

Jarrett said he hates to be the one to spoil someone's surprise, but he's too livid to let this go on any longer. He knows EXACTLY who is coming over from WWF and he's in the back RIGHT NOW. Jarrett said he was letting the cat out of the bag...

"Come on out Andrew!"

A bit of an uncomfortable silence followed as Jarrett waited for the now former WWF star to emerge from the back and make his WCW alignment known. Sure enough it was Andrew Martin better known as Test in WWF. Martin made his way down to the back with no music and in street clothes to a mild mixed reaction from the audience.

Jarrett wanted Martin to answer the burning question he has...does he deny that he and Shane McMahon are TIGHT. Andrew Martin confirmed that yeah, they've known each other for years. Martin said if it wasn't for Shane, he wouldn't have made it this far in this business.

"Ah ha!" Jarrett shouted - he seemed to think this proved that McMahon does play favorites - but Martin went on to clarify that he meant that Shane gave him the shot - the opportunity - to be in the WWF. But Martin wanted to set the record straight that everything he has ever achieved in this business, he did it with his own blood, sweat, and tears.

Jarrett decided to turn the tables on Martin, asking him what exactly he had achieved with all that work. All those PPV main events and multiple World Championships...oh wait! Jarrett pointed out that he has NONE of those things. Jarrett said he was not going to take a back seat to people like Martin when he deserves to have all the screen time. Jarrett then began to berate the fans before Martin apparently had heard enough and he decided to lay out Jarrett with a hard right hand which got a decent reaction from the crowd. Jarrett stumbled back up into a few more punches from Martin who then whipped Jarrett into the ropes to go for the Big Boot, but Jarrett held onto the top rope and immediately ducked out of the ring.

Jarrett headed to the back, clearly frustrated, while Andrew Martin shook his head in the ring.

(67%) - Jeff Jarrett lost overness from this segment. Andrew Martin's turn was completed, and he is now a face. Andrew Martin gained overness from this turn.

Chris Kanyon vs. Dustin Rhodes
Before the match got under way, Kanyon was sure to ask the crowd WHO'S BETTER THAN KANYON - to the typical results. Rhodes was out tonight to make a statement after losing to Shane Douglas in the finals of the United States Championship tournament. And in fact, Shane Douglas himself joined Mike Tenay and Glenn Gilbertti at the announce both at ringside for the match. When asked if either of these men could be considered contenders for the title, Douglas said as long as he's champion...there's no such thing as a true contender. Rhodes had things well under control until the fight spilled to ringside where Rhodes got caught up in a verbal war with Douglas at the announce both. The two went nose to nose before Kanyon attacked Rhodes from behind. Kanyon sent Rhodes head first into the ring post and then rolled him back into the ring. Kanyon continued on the offensive, picking up a few nearfalls from his gained advantage...but Rhodes soon fought his way right back and was able to finish Kanyon off with the Curtain Call for the victory.
WINNER - Dustin Rhodes by pinfall
(78/78/79)

After the match, Douglas taunted Rhodes from ringside with the US Championship as Rhodes celebrated his victory.

An Extreme Announcement

Backstage, Shane McMahon had gathered up a few workers including Bam Bam Bigelow, Mike Awesome, Lance Storm, Big Vito, Terry Funk, and Road Warrior Animal to name a few. Shane McMahon was holding the WCW Hardcore Title as he addressed the workers. He said he had pulled them all aside because he had been trying to decide what to do with the Hardcore Title ever since he took control...part of him said just get rid of it, but the other part of me sees potential for some real entertainment. He has decided to not retire the belt...but instead create a true Extreme Division in WCW. He wants people in this division who know how to not only give out some punishment, but take it as well..and they have all proven in their history to be 'Extreme.' What he doesn't want is for this division to become a joke of itself like he has seen in the past. That being said, the WCW Hardcore Title will now be known as the WCW Extreme Championship...and a new champion will be decided in a tournament...which will be open to anyoen who thinks they're tough enough to take part...and that not just includes the ones standing before him now...but he's opening the door up to ANYONE in the wrestling industry who wants to come and be a part of the WCW Extreme Division. Shane the tournament would get under way next week on Nitro.

Getting the Band Back Together

Evan Karagias and Shannon Moore made their way down to the ring to the music of 3-Count. Evan Karagias took the microphone and address his win at Spring Stampede and his right to a Cruiserweight Title shot...but what he really wants is to bury the hatchet with Shane Helms...he wants to reunite all three members of 3-Count for a "Reunion Tour." He said the fans want it and more importantly, THEY want it.

Shane Helms made his way down to the ring to join them, but did not seem to interested in what they had to say. Karagias sucked up to Helms, talking about how great he was and how he was the glue that held the band together. With him, they're just....2-Count.

Helms responded by saying he appreciated the offer, but he's a solo act now...and in fact, he has a non-title match right now against...well Shannon Moore.

Helms turned around to take off his belt, but when he turned his back to his former friends...they responded by attacking him. Helms held his own and managed to clear the ring of Karagias just as it was time for the match to start.

Non-Title Match
Shannon Moore (w/Evan Karagias) vs. Shane Helms

The two former friends and partners went toe to toe with one another from the opening bell, as Helms had to not only worry about Moore in the ring but Karagias' presence at ringside as well. While Helms was in control early, Karagias provided the distraction to allow Moore to take control and pick up a few nearfalls against the Cruiserweight champion. However, a moonsault attempt from Moore ended with him hitting Helms' knees as he lifted them up to block it. Helms staggered to his feet first and took control, eventually setting up Moore for the Vertebreaker...but Evan Karagias entered the ring to stop it before he could hit the move. Karagias attacked Helms which was enough to get the disqualification.
WINNER - Shane Helms by DQ
(73/62/84)

Post-match, Evan Karagias continued to assault Helms as Moore recovered and then joined in. Moore held Helms while Karagias took the Cruiserweight title and laid out Helms with it. Karagias lifted the title up over Helms' body in victory to end the segment.

An Opportunity for Greatness

In the locker room, several random wrestlers are seen talking and going through their bags. Among the wrestlers in the locker room included Chavo Guerrero Jr, Norman Smiley, Buff Bagwell, Hugh Morrus, Shawn Stasiak, Mark Jindrak, The Cat, Alex Wright, and Mike Sanders.

Ric Flair and Curt Hennig entered the locker room and Flair got their attention. He wanted to give them all the opportunity to get out of the rut their career is currently in and join an exclusive club. A club for true class. A club for those who think the life of a limousine riding, jet flyin, wheelin' dealin', kiss stealin' son of a gun sounds like the life they want to be living....Flair told them that opportunities like this only come once in a lifetime, so if they want onboards, now's the time. TONIGHT is the night to join this 'club.' And if they want in...he thinks they will now what they have to do.

With that, Flair and Hennig left the locker room as the workers in it are left speechless.

Main Event - WCW World Title Match
Booker T (c) vs. Ric Flair (w/Curt Hennig)

For the second time in less than a week, Flair and Booker T met up for the WCW World Title...this time the playing field was "even" as both men were wrestling their first match of the night. From the opening bell, Flair had the advantage of having Hennig in his corner - but Booker T being the savvy champion that he is, did his best to not let Hennig get to him. The champion looked strong early, already having Flair against the ropes and getting a few nearfalls. A rake to the eyes slowed Booker T down enough to bring Flair back into the match. Flair lit up Booker's chest with his trademark chops before he began working over Booker's legs again, much like he did at Spring Stampede. Flair continued on the offensive until he made his often made mistake of going to the top rope. Booker T recovered and joined Flair on the ropes! They traded punches until Booker T got the best of it and came off the top with a superplex that left both men down!

Booker T was first recover and made the cover for a very close two count. Booker T got to his feet and tried to pull Flair up, but Flair surprised Booker with a small package for a two count. Both men recovered and traded knife edge chops back and forth until Flair backed Booker into the corner. Flair laid a few closed fist punches to Booker's sides which caused referee Nick Patrick to step in. While Patrick was warning Flair, Hennig jumped onto the apron and began choking Booker behind the referee's back! Hennig jumped down at the last second only leaving Booker T gasping for air and allowing Flair to take control.

After targeting the knees some more and getting Booker to the mat, Flair let out a WOO! before trapping Booker T in the Figure Four leglock. Nick Patrick checked in with the champion to see if he was going to tap out, but Booker T was not about to submit to lose his title. Booker began to struggle to reach the ropes, but it appeared he had passed out from the pain before he made it to the ropes. His shoulders were down on the mat so Patrick made the count - One, Two, Thre....still life in Booker T after all as he got his shoulder up. He kept his arm lifted up in the air as the fans cheered loudly to try and inspire him to get out of the hold. After a long struggle, Booker T rolled the Figure Four over, which sent them both into the ropes. The hold was broken, but Booker was slow to recover.

Flair attempted to go back on the attack, meeting Booker as he got to his feet and attempted a vertical suplex, but Booker blocked it and laid out Flair with a suplex of his own! Both men were down once more, but Booker used the Spinaroonie to get to his feet and draw a loud pop from the crowd. Flair stumbled to his feet right into the Harlem Sidekick! Booker T stalked Flair, just begging him to get to his feet as he measured him up for the Bookend. Flair very slowly staggered to his feet and walked right into Booker T who was waiting...BOOKEND! ONE, TWO, THRE....HENNIG INTERUPTED THE COUNT WITH AN ELBOWDROP to referee Nick Patrick! How blatant...

Booker T got up and met Hennig with some chops, but as Booker T was working over Hennig..Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak stormed from the back and attacked Booker T from behind! It became a three on one assault to Booker T as the fans booed loudly watching the champion get laid out. Hennig left the ring and returned with a chair as Jindrak and Stasiak each held an arm. Hennig planted the chair right across Booker T's skull before dropping him to the mat. Flair stumbled to his feet and was pleased when he saw Stasiak and Jindrak in the ring. Hennig shook Nick Patrick until he had just enough sense to realize he was officiating a match...and only saw Flair making the cover to Booker T....One....Two....Three! Mike Tenay voiced his digust while Gilbertti appreciated the 'strategy' of the situation.
WINNER - Ric Flair by pinfall
(90/97/74)
- The WCW World title has gained in image.

Ric Flair was announced as the NEW WCW World Champion. He was handed the title and stood victorious in the ring with Hennig, Jindrak, and Stasiak, receiving huge heat as the show came to a close.

Yikes that Test segment bombed :shifty:

I like the Flair 'club', but would have liked to have maybe seen some more guys try to join in. Jindrak and Stasiak is an interesting duo though and a title change is a big way to kick off the new 'era' of WCW. The 'Extreme' division could be interesting or a total flop. It'll be nice to see how you handle that.

WCW Tuesday Nitro

Announcers: Mike Tenay and Glenn Gilbertti

The show opened with the recap of last week's main event which saw Ric Flair defeat Booker T to win the WCW World Title once again.

The Gentlemen's Club

To kick off the show - Ric Flair, Curt Hennig, Shawn Stasiak, and Mark Jindrak made their way down to the ring now accompanied by Stacy Keibler. Keibler took the microphone first and introduced Ric Flair as the NEW WCW World Champion. Ric Flair took the microphone and talked about the men standing in the ring with him right now...he referenced lsat week where he gave the locker room the opportunity to join this elite club, and it was Jindrak and Stasiak who took the leap of faith to allow Flair to show him the bright future they are both capable of. Flair promised that winning the WCW title was just the beginning. This elite group of workers are going to be known as the best this industry has to offer. Flair dubbed the group 'The Gentlemen's Club' - due to their class and elite level.

Booker T's music interrupted Flair as the former champion made his way onto the stage to address the group. Booker T said he should've known Flair was going to have another trick up his sleeve, and he should've known better than to let his guard down when in the ring with Flair. It never surprises him the lengths Flair will go to win.

Flair clarified, saying that he was proud of his win at any cost's nature...it's that attitude that has made him a now SEVENTEEN TIME World Heavyweight Champion.

Booker T wanted to let Flair know that number 17 was going to go down in history as one of the shortest...because he plans on winning the title back very soon...he wanted to get a rematch at Slamboree. Flair, not interested in fighting Booker T anymore, said he had better things to do.

Shane McMahon apparently disagreed. He made his way out as well, joining Booker T on the stage. Shane agreed with Booker, saying that he didn't care what plans Flair had for Sunday May 27th, but he WILL be there for Slamboree because he is contractually obligated to defend the title. And it WILL be against Booker T! And not only that, but in an effort to minimize any outside distractions or interference this 'Gentlemen's Club' may provide...the match will take place inside the STEEL CAGE!

Booker T shook his head in favor of the idea, while Flair was livid in the ring as his clubmates tried to calm him down.

Curt Hennig took the microphone after Shane McMahon returned to the back, but Booker T was still on the stage. Hennig wanted to see just how bad Booker T wanted to get his hands on the Gentlemen's Club. Hennig suggested Booker could have a match right here, right now if he wanted to.

Flair questioned Hennig's idea, but when Booker T confirmed he'd take on any of them, Hennig responded by suggesting Jindrak...AND Stasiak...in a handicap match. Booker T said he'd take on all four of them, he doesn't care! Get him a referee and he'll take on any comers!

Handicap Match
Booker T vs. Mark Jindrak & Shawn Stasiak (w/The Gentlemen's Club)

Flair, Hennig, and Keibler all remained at ringside - which would not set will for Booker T's chances. But right away, Booker T was like a house of fire taking out both Jindrak and Stasiak one at a time. Booker managed to pick up a couple nearfalls early, but it was only a matter of time before the numbers became too much for Booker in the two-on-one environment. After slowing Booker down, Stasiak and Jindrak took turns in the ring with Booker - picking up several nearfalls but were still unable to keep the former champion down long enough for the three count. Both started to show frustration, while the fans kept trying to cheer Booker back into the match. Booker broke free of a sleeper hold and hit a sidewalk salm to Stasiak. Booker T came to his feet with a Spinaroonie as Stasiak made the tag to Jindrak. Booker lit up Jindrak with some stiff chops before taking him out with a spinning heel kick. Stasiak re-entered the ring but was immediately laid out with a bicycle kick. Curt Hennig jumped to the apron but Booker T knocked him back down with a sidekick! Flair too jumped to the apron, but Booker T knocked him down with a right hand...but all this distraction allowed Jindrak to recover, who attacked Booker from behind and hit the Mark of Excellence! Jindrak made the pin and picked up the three count victory.
WINNER - Jindrak & Stasiak by pinfall via interference
(72/72/73)

After the match, the rest of the Gentlemen's Club entered the ring and began attacking Booker until Diamond Dallas Page and Sting rushed down to the ring to make the save. The heels scattered as Sting and DDP entered the ring. They regrouped up the ramp as the faces helped Booker T back to his feet. Mike Tenay reminded us that this is only the beginning - as later tonight Page and Sting will team to take on Flair and Hennig.

Mental Instability?

Backstage, Scott Hudson was standing by with Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo. Last week, it looked like O'Haire literally snapped on his own partner and the Filthy Animals, laying waist to all of them. Hudson asked what that was all about, Palumbo did the talking for O'Haire, explaining the situation. He said that O'Haire just has some personal issues that are bothering him and he let it get the best of him last week. But they've put it behind them and they're looking forward to the future and getting back their tag team titles.

Konnan, Rey Mysterio, and Billy Kidman entered the shot as well. Konnan mocked Palumbo's description of "personal issues" - saying that O'Haire is losing it and needs to get some professional help. Konnan referenced the fact that O'Haire looked very shakey and nervous just standing there next to Palumbo. Palumbo began arguing with Konnan and soon Palumbo, Rey, Kidman, and Konnan were all talking over one another, arguing. O'Haire yelled out "SHT UP!" which caused everyone to stop in their tracks. He then very calmly said "thank you".....before laying out Konnan with a stiff right hand! Kidman and Rey immediately jumped in and it began an all out brawl between the two teams until security and WCW officials stepped in to break it up.

Extreme Championship Tournament - Opening Round Match
Mike Awesome vs. Big Vito

As both men made their way to the ring, Mike Tenay laid out the rules for any Extreme Division match. Unless otherwise stated, all falls must still occur in the ring but there is no disqualification and outside objects are legal as well as no countouts. The match continues until there is either a pinfall or a submission. Vito and Awesome started out the tournament innocently enough, starting out with some grappling before Vito decided to head to ringside. Awesome followed Vito out and was met by a tossed chair from Vito. The chair collided with Awesome and staggered the big powerhouse, but not take him down. Vito attempted to send Awesome into the ringpost, but Awesome reversed it and sent Vito colliding hard with the steel post. Awesome took firm control of the match, using several objects just around ringside as weapons before Awesome went under the ring and pulled out a table. Awesome slid the table into the ring and began setting it up when Vito returned and attacked him from behind with a chairshot. Awesome was staggered and Vito drove the chair repeatedly into Awesome's midsection before dropping him with a stiff shot to the head with the chair. A cover resulted in a close two count for Vito. Vito pulled the table over to the corner, and leaned it up against the turnbuckles. Vito pulled Awesome over and hooked him for his lifting Spinning DDT through the table, but Awesome blocked it and hit a Northern Lights Suplex to Vito! Awesome recovered and picked up Vito...and hit a Running Awesome Bomb that sent Vito through the table set up in the corner! Awesome pulled Vito from the table shards and made the cover for the three count victory.
WINNER - Mike Awesome by pinfall
(73/69/77)

Taking Care of Business

Backstage, Scott Hudson had caught up with the team that would take on Flair and Hennig tonight - Sting and Diamond Dallas Page who were just leaving the locker room of Booker T. Hudson first wanted to know how Booker was after the beating from earlier - Sting assured us Booker T would be fine and would be more than ready to take on Flair at Slamboree for the title. But tonight is about Page and Sting getting their payback for what Flair and Hennig cost them at Spring Stampede. DDP continued, saying that he had been waiting for this night since Spring Stampede two weeks ago and he couldn't wait to let them both FEEL THE BANG!

Andrew Martin vs. The Cat
Prior to the match, The Cat 'entertained' the fans with some dancing...but it was all business when Andrew Martin made his way out to some fanfare. Martin went right to work on The Cat, barely letting him get any offense in. Martin pretty much dominated from the opening bell, but Cat fought back with some fancy footwork, but a jumping side kick was ducked by Martin who then suplex Cat to the mat. Martin sent Cat into the ropes and leveled him with the huge Big Boot before finishing Cat off with the Pumphandle Slam for the victory.
WINNER - Andrew Martin by pinfall
(61/61/62)

"Cowboy" hit the PA system after Martin had his hand raised in victory, bringing Jeff Jarrett out from the back. Jarrett was equiped with a microphone and had some things to say about Martin's victory. 'Surprise, surprise' Jarrett stated off the bat - another show that Jarrett is NOT scheduled for but yet this slapnut gets undeserved television time. Jarrett said he was not going to sit idly by and let someone take TV time that could be HIS but due to politics, Jarrett has to sit in the back. Martin took the microphone, saying that Jarrett complaining about politics was like the pot calling the kettle black. Jarrett laughed the comment off and said that he's going to do something about this...he wants to take on Martin, one-on-one...because the way Jarrett sees it...it's either "you or me" and this company ain't big enough for the both of them. Jarrett offered up the challenge for a match at Slamboree, if Jarrett loses...he's done with WCW - he's going to walk out the door and never come back. BUT, if Jarrett WINS - then Andrew Martin needs to pack his bags and head back to the WWF where he came from. After careful deliberation, Andrew Martin agreed to the match and said he would love nothing more than to be the person who gave the fans what they have been wanting for years - a WCW with no Jeff Jarrett!

Seriously Extreme

Lance Storm made his way down from the back as Mike Tenay explained that another Extreme Championship tournament match was about to come. Storm took the microphone and asked if he could be 'serious for a minute.' Storm explained that while you wouldn't know it by looking at him, Storm comes from a deep background in Extreme wrestling. In fact, you couldn't grow up in Calgary......

Alberta, Canada without being exposed to what it means to be Extreme. He may not have the scars and cuts all over his face and body to show it like most do...but that just shows how GOOD he is at being Extreme. And that's why he agreed to be in this Extreme Championship tournament - because of anyone is going to bring respect back to hardcore wrestling in WCW, it should be him.

Extreme Championship Tournament - Opening Round Match
Lance Storm vs. Jerry Lynn

Storm awaited his opponent, only to find out it was someone he knows fairly well if some of the audience may not - it was Jerry Lynn! Mike Tenay expressed his surprise when Lynn made his way out, but explained that this must be one of the outside people Shane McMahon brought in for the Extreme Division in WCW. And what an addition it is - Mike Tenay highlighted Jerry Lynn's background for those who were unfamiliar with his work. Speaking of work, Lynn and Storm proceeded to really tear it up in the ring and the crowd could just sick back and enjoying watching these two do what they do best. The first few minutes of the match stayed within the ring as a strictly wrestling match that went back and forth as Lynn used his speed to keep up with Storm's technical savvy. The match finally spilled to ringside after Lynn sent Storm packing from the ring with a tiltawhirl head scissors take down. On the outside, Storm recovered only to have Lynn pull out all the stops with a running plancha to the outside.

Lynn recovered first on the outside and continued on the offensive, eventually sending Storm back into the ring and returning with a chair. Lynn laid the chair down in the middle of the ring and went for a DDT only to have Storm block it with a bridging Northern Lights Suplex onto the chair, but only picked up a two count. Lynn continued to be impressive in the match, surprisingly controling Storm and picking up several nearfalls along the way. Lynn had Storm set up in the corner and attempted to springboard off the chair, but was caught by Storm who then powerbombed Lynn onto the chair! The chair was bent up in ways a chair should not be bent, and Lynn was holding his back in extreme pain as Storm made the cover - One, Two, Thr....kickout! Storm thought for sure it was over, but went back on the attack. Storm left the ring and returned with a second chair, driving it down into Lynn's kneecap repeatedly. Storm then pulled Lynn to the middle of the ring and locked in the Canadian Maple Leaf. Referee Charles Robinson checked in, but Lynn was refusing to quit. Lynn somehow found the strength to fight his way up using his good leg and broke it up with an enziguri!

Lynn went back on the attack, hobbling to sell the damage done to his knee, but back in control never the less. Lynn looked to finish Storm off with the Cradle Piledriver, but Storm blocked it and lifted Lynn up for a backdrop only to have Lynn reverse his backdrop into a sunset flip - One, Two, Thre...Storm rolled out of the Sunset flip pin and immediately grabbed Lynn by the leg and turned him back over into the Canadian Maple Leaf! Lynn tried to fight it off again, but this time he didn't have the strength...he reluctantly tapped out in the center of the ring.
WINNER - Lance Storm
(84/69/100)

A disappointing debut for Jerry Lynn, but still impressive. However, Storm was not done. He called Mike Awesome down to the ring and two put the boots to Lynn - apparently not satisfied with just winning the match.

Mike Awesome pulled Lynn up by his hair and was setting him up for the Awesome Bomb...when someone armed with a singapore cane jumped from the crowd....it was Tommy Dreamer! Dreamer slid into the ring and immediately laid out Storm with a cane shot to the head! Dreamer then cracked the cane cross Awesome's back to break up the Awesome Bomb attempt! Awesome fell out of the ring, holding his back as Storm stumbled into a kick from Dreamer - DDT!

Mike Awesome pulled Storm to safety and helped him to the back as Dreamer climbed the turnbuckles, posing to a cheering crowd with singapore cane in hand. Dreamer jumped back down and helped Jerry Lynn back to his feet. Dreamer lifted Lynn's arm up in respect, and the crowd gave Lynn a standing ovation for his efforts against Lance Storm. Meanwhile, Mike Tenay continued to go crazy about Tommy Dreamer's surprise arrival in WCW.

Another Rematch Set
Backstage, Scott Hudson was standing by with United States Champion Shane Douglas. Shane Douglas gloated about his title victory and about how there's no one that can even touch him as champion. However, there was one person who was certainly going to try. Dustin Rhodes interupted the interview, much to the chagrin of Douglas. Rhodes just thought Douglas would want to know that he just left Shane McMahon's office. Douglas wanted to know why he should care what Rhodes has been doing. Dustin explained that the reason he had been called to Shane's office was because Shane wanted to congratulate him. "For what?" Douglas inquired, "Winning a hotdog eating contest?" Douglas laughed as he patted Rhodes' gut. Rhodes smirked and responded that No, he was congratulated on getting another shot at the United States title...at Slamboree. Rhodes gave Douglas a pat on the back before walking off screen. Douglas said this was BS and said he was going to go have a word with Shane McMahon right now...

The lovely Stacy Keibler was the only one to accompany Flair and Hennig to ringside, but Sting and DDP were not dumb enough to think that would mean Stasiak and Jindrak weren't nearby. Hennig and Page started the match off and the two went back and forth until Sting entered the ring and took the upperhand on Curt. Page and Sting demonstrated some effective teamwork against Curt early, but a well placed knee to Page's back off the ropes from Flair on the apron slowed Page down enough for Hennig to lay him out with a hiptoss followed by a kneedrop. Hennig tagged in Flair and the two double teamed Page while the referee's back was turned trying to get Sting out of the ring.

Page became your standard face in peril for the next portion of the match as Flair and Hennig took turns working the fan favorite over. But as usual with Page, you just can't keep him down. A sleeperhold from Hennig was escaped with a jawbreaker that finally allowed Page to make the crawl over and tag in Sting. Sting came in as Flair was also tagged in. Flair immediately regretted making the tag and dropped to his knees, begging Sting not to touch him. Sting didn't listen, and proceeded to light up Flair with some stiff right hands. As Sting worked over Flair, Hennig recovered and tried to help his partner out - but Page cut him off and these two began to brawl as well. Hennig and Page spilled to ringside while Flair and Sting continued in the ring. Flair was on the receiving end of a pair of Stinger Splashes before Sting locked in the Scorpion Deathlock to Flair. Hennig entered the ring and broke it up by attacking Sting from behind. Hennig took Sting to the mat with a back suplex...but Page came off the top rope with a flying clothesline to Hennig! All four men were down on the mat.

Page and Hennig both staggered to their feet at the same time...but Page dropped Hennig with the Diamond Cutter to a pop from the crowd. Flair had recovered and attacked Page on the mat before Page could get up, but as he did...Sting closed in on Flair and grabbed him from behind with a handful of hair. Sting pulled Flair's head back and dropped him with the Scorpion Deathdrop! Sting made the cover...One, Two, Thr....Jindrak and Stasiak ran from the back and broke up the pin! Nick Patrick immediately called for the DQ as Jindrak and Stasiak put the boots to Sting.
WINNERS - Sting and DDP by disqualification
(83/87/77)

Sting fought his way to his feet and began fending off both Jindrak and Stasiak until Flair hit a chopblock from behind to Sting. Hennig recovered too and stopped an attempt of DDP to make a save and the 4 on 2 advantage was too much for DDP and Sting. The show ended with the Gentlemen's Club standing tall in the ring once again.

Announcers: Mike Tenay & Glenn Gilbertti

Mike Tenay welcomed us to the show and hyped up the night's main event as a single's match between Curt Hennig of the Gentlemen's Club and Diamond Dallas Page! Tenay mentioned were are just TWO weeks away from Slamboree where Ric Flair will defend the WCW World Title against Booker T inside the steel cage.

WCW Goes Extreme

Tommy Dreamer made his way down to the ring to a decent reaction from the crowd. Dreamer was armed with his singapore cane as he climbed into the ring and took the microphone. Dreamer thanked the crowd and began to explain his appearance in WCW. When he heard "WCW was going extreme" - he just HAD to get involved. He explained that he called up Shane McMahon and said he wanted in to this Extreme Championship tournament - and so here he is, ready to show WCW what EXTREME is all about.

Lance Storm & Mike Awesome walked out onto stage, interrupting Dreamer's welcoming. Storm said that both he and Mike Awesome were very familiar with Dreamer's work - and he thinks WCW is better off without Dreamer. Storm called Dreamer 'boring' - and Storm prefaced it by saying that while anyone would look boring compared to his natural charisma - but Dreamer takes it to another level. Storm told Dreamer he should've stayed in the back alleys or whatever barnyard he was wrestling for before coming here...because he made a mistake last week when he showed up and attacked Storm and Awesome. Storm patted Awesome on the back and said they don't call him the Canadian Career Killer for nothing.

Dreamer thanked Storm for his input and told him he was more than entitled to his opinion - but he wants WCW and the world to draw their own conclusions about him. He told everyone, including Storm and Awesome, to pay attention to what he was about to do in the ring.

Extreme Championship Tournament
Tommy Dreamer vs. Reno

As soon as Reno entered the ring, Tommy Dreamer went on the offensive with the singapore cane - cracking it across Reno's side as he was entering the ring. Dreamer didn't let up on Reno for one second, continuing the offensive and using the singapore cane as a weapon in several innovative ways as he worked it into his offense including hitting Reno with a russian legsweep with the assist of the singapore cane. A lowblow from Reno was Dreamer was pulling him to his feet slowed Dreamer down and allowed Reno to mount a brief offensive. Reno worked over Dreamer's midsection with a variety of kicks before dropping Dreamer with a snap suplex. Reno went to ringside and tossed a chair into the ring. Reno picked the chair up and waited for Dreamer to stumble to his feet. Reno connected with a chairshot to Dreamer, but Dreamer only dropped to a knee and asked for another one. Reno swung the chair, but Dreamer ducked and then lifted Reno up into the air...Dreamer Driver! Tommy Dreamer made the cover and picked up the victory.
WINNER - Tommy Dreamer by pinfall

The Road Not Traveled

Backstage, Hugh Morrus was setting his bag down in the locker room when he was approached by Mark Jindrak, Shawn Stasiak, and Stacy Keibler. Morrus wanted to know what they wanted, and Keibler responded by questioning as to whether or not Hugh Morrus was one of those in the locker room when Ric Flair asked for people to join his exclusive club. Morrus responded, "Yeah, so what?"

Stasiak and Jindrak surrounded Morrus and wanted to know why he felt like he was too good to join forces with the Nature Boy? Morrus told them to cool off, he just prefers to make his own opportunities and not feed off the success of other people. Stasiak and Jindrak seemed to take issue with Morrus' comments and they jumped on him. Morrus held his own, fighting back against the two on one until WCW officials stepped in to break up the fight.

Without U

3 Count made their way down to the ring along with their microphones and their round platforms and were greeted to boos from the crowd. Evan Karagias and Shannon Moore set up their platforms in the ring and addressed the crowd. Karagias said there may be one less member of 3 Count now, but in his eye's it's addition by subtraction. Tonight, they are here to perform for us their latest single. Their first song, "Can't Get You Out of my Heart" was a huge hit love song...well tonight, they release their first break up song called "Without U."

The music hit and the two began to sing about breaking up...although it seemed more like they were singing about how much better they are without Shane Helms. The crowd's disinterest in the song couldn't be measured...until VERTEBREAKER hit the PA system.

Shane Helms walked out onto the stage to mercifully interrupt the singing. Helms congratulated the duo on their continued success without him - but he was interested to see if they could match their success in the ring with their success out of the ring. Karagias and Moore said that of course they could. Helms was glad to hear it, because Shane McMahon is allowing Helms to pick the tag team to face off against 3 Count tonight. Karagias and Moore didn't like the sound of that, but decided to play tough and tell Helms that maybe he should do his own fighting.

Helms said that he would look forward to doing that at Slamboree against Karagias, but for tnoight...Helms has found the PERFECT opponents for 3 Count....

KRONIK!

Karagias and Moore were beside themselves as Bryan Clarke and Brian Adams made their way down to the ring.

3 Count vs. Kronik
Evan Karagias and Shannon Moore certainly had their work cut out for them against the powerhouse team of Brian Adams and Bryan Clarke. But that didn't stop them from taking on the task head on. Karagias and Moore, in tandom, bounced off the ropes and sailed through the air, only to be caught and slammed to the mat by Clarke and Adams. Shannon Moore was left to be the legal man - and Clarke and Adams toyed with him for a couple minutes - taking turns before Moore crawled over and made the tag to Karagias. Karagias came in with a dropkick that staggered Adams. Karagias attempted to cut some corners to try and get some offense in, raking Adams' eyes to slow him down. It seemed to work momentarily, as Karagias even managed to knock Adams off his feet with a springboard clothesline. But any attempt of a pin was useless as Adams powered out of the cover by literally tossing Karagias. Karagias attempted to continue to fight back, but eventually found himself being taken out by the High Times from both members of Kronik. Shannon Moore came flying off the top rope, but was caught by Adams and Clarke...a High Times for Moore as well. Each member pinned a member of 3 count for the victory.
WINNERS - Kronik by pinfall
(69/63/75)

Hugh Morrus vs. Mark Jindrak (w/Stacy Keibler & Shawn Stasiak)
This match was signed after the scuffle earlier in the show. Morrus went right on the attack to Jindrak, attacking him right as he entered the ring. Morrus had control early, hitting Jindrak with a few clotheslines and laid him out with a sideslam that picked up a two count. The distraction of Keibler and Stasiak at ringside allowed Jindrak back into the match. An impressive dropkick laid out Morrus. Jindrak continued on the offensive, showing off his strength as he picked up the larger Morrus and walked around the ring with him in the vertical suplex position before dropping him to the mat. Jindrak showboated to the crowd, receiving scattered boos. Jindrak was unable to put Morrus away, but Jindrak didn't let up. However, an attempted powerbomb from Jindrak was reversed as Morrus lifted up Jindrak with a backdrop. Morrus took control back and laid out Jindrak with a big running DDT that looked like it was going to set him up for the No Laughing Matter, but once on the top rope, Morrus was distracted as Stasiak tried to interfere. He was unsuccessful, but the distraction gave Jindrak enough time to recover and climbed the ropes with Morrus. Jindrak took Morrus down off the top turnbuckle with a big back superplex! Jindrak got to his feet first as Morrus was slowly staggering up...Jindrak hooked Morrus and executed the Mark of Excellence! Jindrak with pin and the win.
WINNER - Mark Jindrak by pinfall
(62/62/63)

After the match, Shawn Stasiak entered the ring and the two combined to put the boots to Morrus some more, adding insult to injury. Once they felt like they had done enough damage, Stacy Keibler entered the ring and lifted up their arms in victory.

Veterans of Extreme

Backstage, Scott Hudson was standing by with Johnny the Bull - who is one of the entrants in the Extreme Championship tournament. Hudson wanted to get the Bull's thoughts on the tournament. Johnny the Bull said he was looking over some of the people involved in the tournament and he was a little concerned because there are some people who just don't belong. Terry Funk? Road Warrior Animal? These guys are WAY too old to be competing in matches like this. He'd hate to see one of them dislocate a hip or something.

Apparently he was nearby listening, because Terry Funk interrupted, not too happy with the comments Johnny was making about his age. Funk said he had been living this extreme life since before he was even born. And Funk said he would be extreme until the day he dies. Johnny said that at this rate, it would probably be sooner rather than later. Funk slapped Bull across the face and told him he needed to learn some respect. He doesn't understand the lack of respect young punks like him have for people who made it possible for an Extreme Championship to even exist in the first place. "I'll show you respect" Johnny replied as he reached out with a hard right hand to Funk.

Bull kneed Funk in the midsection and tossed him head first into the wall. Johnny the Bull continued on the attack until Road Warrior Animal came in and shoved Johnny away from Funk. Bull, seeming to be intimidated by Animal's size, backed down and scurried off as Animal checked on Funk.

Extreme Championship Tournament
Norman Smiley vs. Sean O'Haire

Norman Smiley came out with helmet and football gear on, with a trashcan full of "hardcore" goodies such as broomsticks, hockeysticks, and more. Mike Tenay reminded us that Norman Smiley was a 'staple' of the old Hardcore title, but Glenn Gilbertti said that wasn't saying much. O'Haire came to the ring and seemed unsure what to think about Smiley, but Smiley went head on with his attack, literally headbutting O'Haire while wearing the helmet. O'Haire was staggered and taken back by Smiley's lack of fear, and Smiley drove his helmeted head right into O'Haire's midsection. O'Haire was doubled over in pain, which Smiley took advantage of by standing behind O'haire and performing the BIG WIGGLE! O'Haire, knowing he was being mocked, completely lost it. He grabbed Smiley by the throat and ripped the helmet off his head. O'Haire slammed the helmet into Smiley's head, dropping the former Hardcore champion to the mat. O'haire unleashed a series of brutal stomps to Smiley's body before throwing the helmet down onto him. O'Haire continued his onslaught, showing Smiley no mercy as he beat him from pillar to post before taking the trash can full of goodies and dumping them out. O'haire put Norman into the trash can and tossed him to the mat before climbing to the top turnbuckle. O'Haire came off the top with the SEANTON BOMB onto the canned Norman. O'Haire showed no pain as he got up and made the cover for the easy three count.
WINNER - Sean O'Haire by pinfall
(71/72/70)

Post match, O'Haire shoved away the referee out of anger...but The Filthy Animals hit the ring and jumped O'Haire! O'Haire seemed to hold his own briefly but the numbers became too much as Kidman laid out O'Haire with the Kid Krusher. Chuck Palumbo ran down to the ring to make the save...but it was too late as the Filthy Animals were already leaving the ring with o'Haire laid out.

Later Mike Tenay would announce that Shane McMahon had officially signed Filthy Animals to defend the tag titles against O'Haire and Palumbo at Slamboree.

The Welcoming Committee

Backstage, Andrew Martin was walking backstage when he was stopped by United States Champion, Shane Douglas. Douglas stopped Martin and said "I don't believe we've met," - Douglas introduced himself as the US Champion Shane Douglas and welcomed Martin to WCW. Martin reluctantly shook hands with Douglas, and admired his US Title - saying that he'd love to get a shot at that gold. Douglas laughed and mocked Martin, telling him he had a LOT to learn...first and foremost, never trust a handshake from the Franchise. Douglas pointed behind Martin...when Martin turned around he found a guitar being smashed over his head by Jeff Jarrett! Martin hit the floor and Jarrett thanked Douglas for the set up. The two then began putting the boots to Andrew Martin before Dustin Rhodes ran in with a chair to chase off Douglas and Jarrett. Martin asked for some medical assistance to check on Martin.

Feel the BANG

Scott Hudson was backstage with Diamond Dallas Page who was just moments from making his way to the ring for the night's main event against Curt Hennig. Page said that last week was bittersweet because he and Sting got to take on Flair and Hennig - but they had the thrill of victory taken away with a meaningless DQ thanks to the Gentlemen's Club. Page knew that he had to watch his back tonight because Hennig will no doubt have support if he gets in trouble. But Page warned anyone who tried to get in his way, they too would FEEL THE BANG!

Main Event
Diamond Dallas Page vs. Curt Hennig (w/Stacy Keibler)

Just Stacy Keibler in Hennig's corner as the match started, but there's no doubt in anyone's mind that the Gentlemen's Club were probably close by...the match started with a lock up that Page got the upper hand in, but Hennig did not let Page take control right away. The two traded the advantage back and forth early before a cheapshot from Hennig let him take control. Hennig worked over Page, picking up a couple nearfalls before resulting to some restholds to slow the match down. The crowd began to get behind Page to fight his way free. Page used the crowd's cheers as the leverage he needed to fight his way to his feet. A few elbows to Hennig's midsection gave him enough room to level Hennig with a discuss clothesline. It was Page's turn to be on the offensive. After a few moments of Page being in control, Hennig felt like he needed to duck to ringside to regain his composure - but Page wasn't having it. He slingshotted himself over the top rope with a crossbody out onto Hennig - sending both men to the floor.

DDP recovered first, pulling Hennig up by his hair and tossing him back into the ring. Keibler raked Page's back, but Page turned and Keibler ran to the other side of the ring. Page shrugged his shoudlers and climbed back into the ring, but the momentary distraction had allowed Hennig to recover and he attacked Page as he entered the ring. Hennig went back to work on Page and eventually would go for the Hennigplex, but Page reversed it and went for the Diamond Cutter out of nowhere...but Hennig blocked it as well, shoving Page off into the ropes. Page came off the ropes and ducked a clothesline from Hennig and flew off the ropes with a big clothesline of his own. Hennig was looking in trouble after a pair of atomic drops from Page followed by belly-to-back inverted mat slam. Hennig was laid out and Page signaled for the Diamond Cutter!

Stacy Keibler immediately climbed onto the apron and distracted referee Nick Patrick. This distraction allowed Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak to hit the ring. Page saw them coming and ducked their double clothesline and dropped Jindrak with a dropkick. Stasiak swung a right hand at Page, but Page ducked it and hit Stasiak with the Diamond Cutter! But as Page got back up, he was blindsided by Ric Flair who belted Page across the back of the head with the WCW Title! Flair left the ring as quickly as he had arrived, and Hennig crawled over to cover Page. Patrick returned to his position as Keibler got down and only saw Hennig making the cover...One, Two, Three.
WINNER - Curt Hennig by pinfall via interference
(77/79/75)

Hennig celebrated his victory as Jindrak and Stasiak recovered to put the boots to Page. Flair and Hennig joined in until Booker T, Sting, and Hugh Morrus came running down to the ring. The heels hit the deck as the faces entered the ring.

As the Gentlemen's Club regrouped up the stage, Hugh Morrus and Booker T helped DDP up to his feet while Sting took the microphone. Sting said that Flair and Booker T are busy at Slamboree, but last he checked - the rest of "you stooges" are free...and Sting noticed that they seem to have found a new man who shares their hatred for the Gentlemen's Club in Hugh Morrus..."so, you have 3 extra men and it looks like so do we...what a coincidence." Sting said at Slamboree, it would be Hennig, Stasiak, and Jindrak against Sting, Page, and Hugh Morrus!

The Gentlemen's club were left in outrage as the show came to a close while the faces celebrated for the fans.
