WCW Tuesday Nitro May 22, 2001 Announcers: Mike Tenay and Glenn Gilbertti A 'Random'Drawing The show opened up with Mike Tenay and Glen Gilbertti hyping up Slamboree and the Flair/Booker cage match for the WCW World Title. The Gentlemen's Club made their way down to the ring to start the show, accompanied by the lovely Stacy Keibler. In the ring, a bingo or lottery ball style machine was sitting on a table. Ric Flair took the microphone and told the crowd to shut up so he could talk. Flair first talked about Slamboree and how he was looking forward to beating Booker T AGAIN, and this time shutting him up since it'll be in the steel cage. But Slamboree is a few days away, Flair wanted to talk about TONIGHT. Because TONIGHT, he was feeling generous. TONIGHT, he wanted to give someone a World Title shot! There's several balls inside this picking machine that has names of the Gentlemen's Club's opponents at Slamboree...that means he could be defending the title against Booker T right here tonight...or maybe it will be Sting! It could also be Diamond Dallas Page or Hugh Morrus. It's up to fate to decide. Without further adue, Flair asked Hennig to do the honors. Hennig turned the machine and it was Stacy Keibler who actually reached in and presented the ball. Flair made the announcement...tonight he would be defending the WCW Title against... Hugh Morrus! Everyone in the ring seemed very pleased with the turnout...as Flair conveniantly avoids having to face Sting or Booker T for the World Title. The Gentlemen's Club left the ring to deafening boos from the crowd. (97%) ----- Extreme Championship Tournament Road Warrior Animal vs. Johnny the Bull This one was NOT pretty...Animal was sloppy in the ring and didn't seem interested in selling any of Johnny the Bull's offense. So most of the match consisted of Animal plodding around the ring, picking up a weapon and knocking Bull down with it...or picking Bull up and planting him back on the mat. And whenever the Bull would fight back, Animal acted like nothing happened. Animal would eventually set up a table in the ring and set up Bull on the top turnbuckle, looking for maybe a superplex through the table. Bull fought back and managed to toss Animal off the top rope through the table! Johnny grabbed a chair off the mat and climbed the top turnbuckle with it, and came off with a flying legdrop using the chair - very Sabu Arabian Facebuster like to Animal! Johnny the Bull rolled over, selling the move, slowly making the cover and picking up the three count victory. WINNER - Johnny the Bull (62/69/49) - Road Warrior Animal didn't really sell very much, which hurt the match rating. ----- Oops... Backstage, Ric Flair was leading his group back to their locker room - with Jindrak and Stasiak carrying the lottery machine...when they turned the corner, they bumped into Chavo Guerrero Jr who accidentally caused the machine to fall...sending the balls scattering all over the floor. Chavo apologized, and was berated by the members of the Gentlemen's Club for being a goof. Chavo tried to help pick up the balls, and as he did...he made an observation - "Hey, these all say Hugh Morrus..." A frustrated Curt Hennig picked up Chavo and told him to mind his own business and to SCRAM. Chavo headed for the hills as The Gentlemen's Club continued on their way, not bothering to clean up the mess. (97%) ----- Filthy Animals & Shane Helms (w/Konnan & Torrie) vs. Palumbo, O'Haire, & Evan Karagias (w/Shannon Moore) In a preview for Slamboree, the tag team champs joined forces with the cruiserweight champ to take on their challengers for Slamboree. Helms, Kidman, and Mysterio seemed to be working together as one unit much better than the heels...as Karagias spent most of the match arguing with Palumbo over who needed to be in control, while O'Haire seemed disinterested in the both of them. The match went back and forth, with Palumbo eventually using his power to slow down the smaller wrestlers on the face side, allowing Karagias to get the blind tag to bring himself in to take advantage. Karagias used the opportunity to get the upperhand on Shane Helms, and try to weaken him up for Slamboree. Karagias picked up a few nearfalls over the champion before Helms started to fight back. Helms made the hot tag to Rey Mysterio, who springboarded in the ring and took out Karagias with a headscissors takedown. Palumbo and O'Haire rushed the ring, bringing in Kidman and Helms to even the odds and it became an all out brawl in the ring as all six men went at it. Palumbo was sent over the top rope with a double dropkick from Kidman and Mysterio, while Helms was tossed over the top rope by O'Haire. Karagias bounced off the ropes and went for a leaping clothesline to Mysterio, but Mysterio ducked and Karagias hit O'Haire! This set O'Haire off, as a sudden outburst caused him to lift up Karagias and spin him around with a fireman's carry DDT! Kidman charged at O'Haire, only to get sent over the top rope to the floor by O'Haire. It was down to Mysterio and O'Haire in the ring - Mysterio used his speed to send O'Haire into the corner. He set O'Haire up on the top rope, but O'Haire fought back and tossed Rey off the top rope to the floor...with Rey lying on his back, O'Haire leaped off the top rope - hitting Rey with the Seanton Bomb! O'Haire made the pin on Rey and picked up the three count victory over the champions. WINNERS - Palumbo, O'Haire, and Karagias (73/66/81) Post-match, Palumbo re-entered the ring and celebrated his victory with O'Haire..while O'Haire just gave him a cold stare. ----- Dreamer to the Rescue Backstage, Scott Hudson was standing by with Jerry Lynn to talk about Jerry Lynn's debut in WCW where he lost an amazing match with Lance Storm. Lynn talked about how he was disappointed to lose, but he couldn't be happier to be in WCW now as a part of the Extreme Division and says that whoever wins the championship will have to watch out for him, because he showed he could take anyone to the limit when he nearly defeated Lance Storm. Lance Storm and Mike Awesome interrupted the interview. Storm said that he knows Americans like to think in terms of "almost" because they're used to "almost" living up to the standard set by Canada - but he wanted to inform Jerry Lynn that almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. The fact remains that he lost and he might as well get used to doing that in WCW. Lynn said that he would have another opportunity this Sunday at Slamboree when he teamed up with his good friend Tommy Dreamer to take on these two. Awesome figured, why wait, and attacked Lynn from behind. Storm joined in on the fun...but it was Lynn's partner at Slamboree, Tommy Dreamer, who immediately rushed in with a singapore cane to break up the attack. Dreamer connected with the cane to Storm's back before Storm and Awesome managed to get away. (67%) ----- Jeff Jarret & Shane Douglas vs. Andrew Martin & Dustin Rhodes This was just your standard PPV preview tag match, putting two matches together into a tag match to give us a sneak peek of what's to come at Slamboree. Martin and Rhodes were impressive early, controling the match until Jarrett blindsided Rhodes - allowing Douglas to take control. Douglas and Jarrett made frequent tags to keep the fresh man in against Rhodes, keeping him from making the tag to Martin. A big belly to belly overhead suplex from Douglas only resulted in a two count - but the heels didn't let him and continued on the attack. Jarrett continued where Douglas left off, but a sudden burst of energy from Rhodes led him off the ropes where he ducked a clothesline from Jarrett and they then collided with each other with a double clothesline. It was a race to make the fresh tag, and they made it at about the same time. Martin came in with a head of steem and took down Douglas with a big clothesline. Martin turned his attention to the recovering Jarrett, and sent him out of the ring head first over the top rope. Martin turned his attention back to Douglas, continuing on the attack. Martin picked up a couple nearfalls before sending Douglas into the ropes and hitting the Big Boot! However, unbeknown to Martin, Jarrett had made the blind tag to Douglas as he hit the ropes. The referee saw it but Martin did not. Martin was setting Douglas up for the Pumphandle Slam, only to have Jarrett attack him from behind to break it up. Rhodes, not seeing the tag either, entered the ring to argue - but was cut off by the referee. Martin began to fight back, but with the referee's back turned - Douglas joined in the attack with an uppercut to Martin's family jewels. Douglas rolled out to the apron as Jarrett laid out Martin with the STROKE. Jarrett made the pin while Douglas cut off Rhodes to prevent him from making the save - One, Two, Three... WINNERS - Jarrett & Douglas by pinfall (73/75/71) ----- An Opportunity of a Lifetime Backstage, Hugh Morrus came across the spilt lottery balls - each one containing his name. He seemed a little offended that Flair considered him the easiest to beat - but Booker T approached Hugh Morrus and offered him some advice. He told Morrus he should use that feeling against Flair...he's obviously not taking Morrus very seriously, Booker explained. Make that his downfall, he suggested. Sting and DDP entered the shot as well to support Morrus. They explained this was a huge opportunity for Morrus, and it doesn't matter how the match came to be...he should take it and run with it. Morrus nodded his head and said he would look forward to facing Booker T at Slamboree as the defending World Champion. "That's the spirit!" - Booker patted him on the back as the show went to a break. (70%) ----- Jamie Noble - The Extreme Redneck Jamie Noble made his way down to the ring with a different look than we're used to seeing him...he's in cut off jean shorts and carrying a cooler with him to the ring. He set the cooler down and entered the ring, taking the microphone. Noble worked the crowd up and said he was glad that Shane McMahon was going to let him be himself out here. He explained that he's just an normal guy - he said a lot of people come out here and call the fans 'rednecks' like it's a bad thing...well Noble's here tonight to say it proudly, he's a redneck and proud of it. In fact, he wants to show the world what a redneck is capable of...that's why he's in the Extreme Championship Tournament. He says he's been in so many bar fights in his day - this Extreme stuff is like child's play. YEEEHAAAWWWWWW let's get Extreme. (64%) ----- Extreme Championship Tournament Jamie Noble vs. Kash While Noble seemed to have the crowd pretty fired up during his promo, once Kash made his way out - the crowd checked out completely. Which is a shame because these two work great together...they're fast pace style was a mixture of the hardcore style combined with the cruiserweight division. They gelled the two divisions perfectly in this match which was a thing of beauty. Both men got plenty of opportunity to shine as it went back and forth and included lots of high flying action mixed with chairs. Kash worked Noble over in the corner with a chair - jabbing it repeatedly into his midsection before he set the chair up and used it as a springboard as he charged in with a splash to Noble. Noble stumbled out of the corner only to have Kash grab him and hit a running bulldog into the chair. Kash went for the pin and picked up a VERY close two count. Kash would set up Noble for the Money Maker piledriver, but Noble countered with a backdrop that sent Kash landing into the chair! Noble fought back and dropped Kash with a single arm DDT that picked up a two count. Noble didn't let him, continuing on the offensive until he was able to lock Kash into a jumping tombstone piledriver that was enough to give Noble the impressive victory. WINNER - Jamie Noble by pinfall (75/50/100) ----- Can You Dig It? Backstage, Scott Hudson was with Booker T to get his thoughts on not only the match at Slamboree but his thoughts on tonight's main event that was up next. Hudson wanted to know if Hugh Morrus was ready for such a high profile match. Booker T said he was definitely ready, but he thought that Ric Flair wasn't ready. Flair may think he's getting a night off, but if he's not fully prepared - he is going to be in for a long match in which Hugh Morrus might just SHOCK THE WORLD. But whether it's Hugh Morrus or it's Ric Flair...by the time Nitro comes on next Tuesday, Booker T will once again be the WCW Champion...now can you dig THAT....SSSUUUUCCCKKKAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! (89%) ----- Main Event WCW World Title Match Ric Flair (c) (w/Stacy Keibler) vs. Hugh Morrus Flair took his time entering the ring after Morrus had already entered - he folded up his robe and handed it to Keibler before she left to ringside. The two locked up and immediately Flair was taken back by Morrus as Morrus caught him off guard after a lockup with a big hiptoss. Morrus came to play and he was showing it right away as he was outwrestling the champ. Flair fought back and hit Morrus with some knife edge chops, but Morrus asborbed them and just got angrier - Mike Tenay commented he had never seen Hugh Morrus this motivated and determined. Morrus dropped Flair with a stiff right hand. Flair immediately began cowering, begging to Morrus to lay off..and as Morrus approached, Flair reached up and poked Morrus right in the eyes. The ref warned Flair, but it was the opening Flair needed to take the upperhand. Flair took Morrus down to the mat and began working over his knee...driving his own knee into it repeatedly and lifting his knee up and slamming it into the mat. Flair continued on the offensive, hitting a few elbowdrops to Morrus' knee before he pulled him to the center of the ring and went for the Figure Four - only to have Morrus use his good foot to kick free. Morrus rolled to his feet and caught Flair off the ropes with a big sidewalk slam. Morrus hooked Flair's leg and got a two count. Morrus showed off his power as he lifted the champion high above his head with a military press before slamming Flair on his back. Flair held his back in pain as he rolled out of the ring to regroup with Stacy Keibler. Hugh Morrus went to ringside to give chase - Flair used Keibler as a shield to protect himself from danger. It worked as Morrus was not one to hit a girl, but he did move her out of the way only to receive a sucker punch from Flair. Flair used that opened door of opportunity to send Morrus crashing into the ring steps. "They don't call him the dirtiest player in the game for nothin'" - Gilbertti noted. Flair sent Morrus back into the ring where Flair was back in control once again. After some more offense from Flair, he began to get too cocky and did his strut before going for an elbowdrop, only to have Morrus roll out of the way! Morrus went back on the attack, and when he set up Flair for a powerbomb...Curt Hennig, Shawn Stasiak, and Mark Jindrak began to walk down from the back...but as they reached about halfway, Sting and Diamond Dallas Page emerged from the crowd and cut them off at the bottom of the ramp! They back pedaled, only to turn around and find Booker T at the entranceway! All six men began to brawl as the action continued inside the ring. Morrus laid out Flair with the powerbomb and started to ascend to the top turnbuckle....NO LAUGHING MATTER connected! Mike Tenay was ready to crown Hugh Morrus as the new champion...but Stacy Keibler was on the apron to distract the referee as Morrus was making the cover! Morrus got up and argued with the referee and Keibler..allowing Flair to crawl from behind..LOW BLOW! Morrus dropped to the mat and Flair stumbled to his feet and locked in the Figure Four leglock! Morrus tried to fight off the pain, but the work done to his knee was too much and he gave in, tapping out. WINNER - RIC FLAIR by submission (80/82/78) - The WCW World title has gained in image. Ric Flair staggered to his feet after the match, but little did he know - Booker T had slid into the ring and was measuring him up....Flair turned around into a boot to the midsection...followed by the Scissors Kick from Booker T! Flair hit the mat and rolled to safety where Hennig helped him out... Booker T did a spinaroonie to his feet and celebrated with the crowd to end the show. OVERALL - 77% |

Main Event - WCW World Title Cage Match Ric Flair (c) vs. Booker T (4 points) - Flair only just got the belt. I don't think hot shotting it is such a good idea. Six Man Tag Match Sting, DDP, & Hugh Morrus vs. The Gentlemen's Club (Hennig, Stasiak, & Jindrak) (3 points) - I think the heels gain a lot more from a title win here. United States Title Match Shane Douglas (c) vs. Dustin Rhodes (2 points) - Shane interests me more than Rhodes tbh. Loser Leaves WCW Match Jeff Jarrett vs. Andrew Martin (2 points) - You need faces to get over <_<. Also, Bringing Martin in just to dump him after like a month seems silly. WCW Tag Team Titles Match The Filthy Animals (c) vs. Palumbo & O'Haire (2 points) - Probably by O'Haire turning on Palumbo or vice versa. WCW Cruiserweight Title Match Shane Helms (c) vs. Evan Karagias (2 points) - I could argue that Shane could move past the CW division, but Karagias isn't the guy to take the strap off of him. Extreme Rules Tag Match Tommy Dreamer & Jerry Lynn vs. Lance Storm & Mike Awesome (2 points) - I feel they need the win a bit more than Storm/Awesome. BONUS QUESTIONS 1. What match will open the show (1 point) - I'll go with Helms/Karagias in classic WCW fashion. 2. Who gets the pinfall in the 6 man tag? (1 point) - I'll say Henning on DDP. TIEBREAKER: -Predict Slamboree's Buy-Rate. In the event of a tie, the person closest will win. Let's say 1.75 |

WCW Slamboree May 27, 2001 Announcers: Mike Tenay & Glenn Gilbertti A hype promo focusing on the last several weeks under the new Shane McMahon era of WCW started, focusing on Ric Flair winning the WCW World Title, the formation of the Gentlemen's Club, and the feud with Booker T, Sting, and Diamond Dallas Page. Mike Tenay welcomed us to the show and did some more hype for the main event of the evening, as our attention was drawn to the steel cage hanging from the top of the arena. Extreme Rules Match Tommy Dreamer & Jerry Lynn vs. Lance Storm & Mike Awesome Some hardcore tag team action started the show off. While the competitors made their entrance, Mike Tenay recapped the new "Extreme" Division of WCW that so far has seen some exciting matches, perhaps none more exciting than the first round match between two of these competitors - Jerry Lynn and Lance Storm. The rules of this match indicate that it was anything goes, and no tags were necissary...so as you might imagine, it was chaotic from the opening bell. Storm and Lynn paired up to start the match while Dreamer found himself paired up with Awesome. It didn't take long for chairs and tables to start becoming primary characters in the story of this match. After being dumped to the outside, Dreamer recovered at ringside, brining a chair back into the ring with him to help make the save for the double team being placed onto Jerry Lynn. Awesome fell out to ringside, allowing Dreamer to focus his attention on Storm in the ring. Jerry Lynn showcased some high flying of his own as he springboarded into a front flip plancha onto the recovering Awesome at ringside. Back in the ring, Dreamer and Storm went back and forth while Lynn tried to keep on the attack to Awesome at ringside, but it was a futile effort as Awesome quickly regained control and laid out Lynn at ringside before setting up a table. Awesome rolled Lynn onto the apron and it looked like he might be setting up Lynn for an Awesomebomb through the table, but Dreamer broke it up with a singapore cane shot to the back! Lance Storm recovered and attacked Dreamer from behind with a backsuplex, but Lynn was able to recover..he climbed back into the ring only to slingshot himself over the rope and hit a sunsetflip powerbomb to Awesome through the table at ringside! With Lynn and Awesome both out of it momentarily, the focus was completely on Dreamer and Storm. Storm managed to turn the focus to more wrestling than brawling, which allowed him to take control. He managed to get Dreamer locked into the Canadian Maple Leaf...but before Dreamer could submit, Lynn springboarded into the ring with a dropkick to Storm to break it up. Lynn kept on the attack with a high speed offense to keep Storm down, while Mike Awesome was recovering at ringside. Awesome brought out another table and slid it into the ring. Lynn grabbed the chair and tossed it to Awesome. Awesome caught it and Lynn went for a spinning heel kick, but Awesome ducked and then leveled Lynn with a vicious chairshot. Lynn was out and Awesome turned his attention to the recovering Dreamer. Awesome picked up Dreamer and bodyslammed him to the mat before setting up the table. Awesome picked up Dreamer and slammed his head across the table before rolling him onto it. Awesome climbed to the top turnbuckle and came off the top look for an Awesome Splash through the table, but Dreamer rolled off at the last second and Awesome crashed through the table! Dreamer and Awesome were both out while Storm began to come alive to his feet..only to get a chair jabbed to the midsection from Lynn! Storm was doubled over and Lynn set him up...CRADLE PILEDRIVER to Storm! Lynn made the cover - One, Two, Three! WINNERS - Tommy Dreamer & Jerry Lynn by pinfall (70/71/85) Jerry Lynn and Tommy Dreamer shared a brohug after the match and raised each other's arms in victory as Storm and Awesome headed up the aisle to mend to their wounds. Backstage, Scott Hudson was outside the office of Shane McMahon. Hudson explained that he had word the Shane McMahon was going to make a major announcement here tonight, and he would be standing by waiting to get the exclusive with Mr. McMahon. WCW Cruiserweight Title Match Shane Helms (c) vs. Evan Karagias (w/Shannon Moore) The two circled each other to start the match before moving in for a lock up. Helms got the upperhand early, much to the frustration of Karagias' partner at ringside. Helms went for a quick pin after a back suplex, but only picked up a two count. Helms bounced off the ropes, only to get tripped up by Moore. While the referee warned Moore, Helms bounced off the ropes and hit a baseball slide to Moore to send him crashing into the ringsteps. But the distraction allowed Karagias to attack Helms from behind. Karagias took control and looked quite sloppy with his offense. Karagias elected to use more of his strength than his speed to neutralize Helms, showcasing his strength with a military press to Helms. Once he had dropped Helms to the mat, Karagias hit a standing moonsault to go for the pin but only picked up a two count. Karagias began to get too cocky with himself as he took his time setting up Helms for a snap suplex only to have Helms counter it and drop Karagias with a DDT. Helms recovered first and went back on the attack, but it was only momentary, as he sent Karagias into the ropes only to have Karagias leapfrog a backdrop attempt. Karagias came back off the ropes with a corkscrew backelbow. Karagias continued on the attack, going for a powerbomb, only to have Helms reverse it with a rana. Suddenly Helms was finding a burst of energy to fight back. Helms dropped Karagias with a sitout sleeper slam for a two count. Helms continued on the offensive, going to the top turnbuckle and frog splash crossbody to Karagias which was another two count. Helms looked to finish Karagias off with the Vertebreaker, but as he was setting it up...Moore jumped onto the apron. Helms dropped Karagias, and took out Moore with the Sugarsmack superkick! He then went back to Karagias and picked up where he left off - VERTEBREAKER! Helms rolled Karagias over and made the cover for the victory to retain the Cruiserweight championship. WINNER - Shane Helms by pinfall (61/61/75) Shane Helms asked the Vertrebreaker girls to join him in the ring after the victory as they all celebrated while Moore helped Karagias out of the ring. WCW Tag Team Titles Match The Filthy Animals (c) (w/Konnan & Torrie) vs. Palumbo & O'Haire Next up we had our second title match of the night as former champions Palumbo & O'Haire are looking to regain the titles from the current champions - Kidman and Mysterio. As the competitors made their way to the ring, we are reminded via video package of Sean O'Haire's recent lapses in sanity. Tonight, O'Haire seemed calmed as the match got underway. Kidman and Mysterio used their speed to their advantage to start the match, keeping Palumbo and O'Haire on their toes and managing to keep either man from getting any significant offense in. But soon Kidman found himself in trouble as he stayed in the wrong corner too long and was blindsided by a cheapshot from Palumbo on the apron. O'Haire stomped a mudhole into Kidman in the corner. O'Haire and Palumbo kept at it, keeping the fresh man in against Kidman while Rey was just itching to get the tag in the corner. Palumbo kept on the attack, going for numberous pinfalls only to have Kidman kick out or Mysterio make the save. Palumbo would eventually set up Kidman for a powerbomb, only to have Kidman reverse it into a faceplant that left both men down! Kidman made it to the corner to get the hot tag to Rey, as Palumbo tagged in O'Haire. Rey came into the ring with a springboard seated senton. O'Haire was right back up to his feet, but the speedy Ray hit a sliding dropkick to O'Haire's new to slow the big man down. Off the ropes, Rey spun around O'haire's arms and dropped him with a spinning DDT. Palumbo attacked Rey from behind, but Kidman made the save to even the odds. Kidman and Rey worked together and sent Palumbo out of the ring with a double dropkick! But when they turned around, O'Haire leveled them with a high impact double clothesline! O'Haire picked up Kidman and tossed him over the top rope to the floor. Rey fought back against O'Haire when he turned around and staggered the bigger man with punches and kicks, backing O'Haire into the corner. Rey picked O'Haire up and set him on the top turnbuckle...but Chuck Palumbo entered the ring with a chair and laid it right into Mysterio's back! Referee Billy Silverman immediately called for the DQ. WINNERS - The Filthy Animals by disqualification (70/73/83) - The WCW Tag Team titles have gained in image. Palumbo kept slamming the chair down into Rey's back and even laid out Konnan when he entered the ring. O'Haire, realizing what had happened and that they had lost the match because of this, came up behind Palumbo and pulled the chair from him. O'Haire's eyes were wide with anger as Palumbo tried to encourage O'Haire to take out his anger on the Filthy Animals...but instead, O'Haire swung the chair and nailed Palumbo in the side of the head with it! Palumbo dropped to the mat as O'Haire slammed the chair repeatedly into Palumbo. The Animals silently disappeared from the ring as O'Haire continued his attack until WCW officials were able to pull him off of Palumbo. Backstage, Scott Hudson was still waiting on Shane McMahon, but he said for now he has the entire Gentlemen's Club with him to discuss their matches tonight. Curt Hennig did the talking first, promising victory for the Club against Sting and his 'merry men.' Hennig promised that tonight would be a 'perfect' night for the Gentlemen's Club. Flair spoke up next, delivering all his classic lines while building up the cage match tonight against Booker T. WOOO! Hudson wanted to know if Flair was worried about the cage match and what it would mean having The Gentlemen's Club not able to interfere on his behalf. Flair seemed offended by Hudson's question - assuring Hudson that he had everything under control. In fact, he even had an insurance policy lined up just in case things started to turn for the worst. When Hudson tried to get more information about this "insurance policy" - but Flair just left us wondering as they headed off camera. (90%) Loser Leaves WCW Match Andrew Martin vs. Jeff Jarrett Jarrett came to the ring armed with his trusty guitar and boos from the crowd while Martin came to the ring with a mild face reaction. The two started the match off by trading some heated words before Jarrett shoved Martin, only to have Martin come back with a hard right hand to knock Jarrett to the mat. Martin went on the attack right away, not giving Jarrett an inch to fight back. After being on the wrong end of Martin's onslaught, Jarrett saught refuge at ringside...but Martin followed him to the outside. Martin grabbed Jarrett from behind and tossed him into the ring post before lifting him up and dropping him down across the guardrails. Jarrett stumbled to the apron to try and pull himself up, but Martin continued on the attack. But Jarrett managed to reach up and get a thumb to Martin's eye to slow him down. Jarrett rolled back into the ring to recover as Martin tried to shake his vision back. Martin began climbing back into the ring, but Jarrett jumped on him and suplexed him over the ropes back into the ring. Jarrett climbed ontop of Martin and began unloading rights and lefts to Martin until he was pulled off by the referee. Jarrett continued on the offensive, picking up nearfalls after a swinging neckbreaker and a snap suplex. Jarrett locked in a sleeperhold to Martin in attempt to put him out that way. Martin seemed to be dazing out and a check of his arms resulted in his arm falling the first two times...but on the third time it stayed up. Martin powered his way to his feet and snapmared Jarrett over his head to the canvas! Jarrett rolled back to his feet but ran right into a tiltawhirl powerslam from Martin! Martin made the cover but only picked up a two count. Martin kept on the attack, getting a few more nearfalls of his own before Jeff Jarrett started to get frustrated. Jarrett fought back and laid out Martin with an enziguri. Jarrett ducked to ringside and grabbed the guitar before re-entering the ring. He shoved his way past the referee and swung the guitar at Martin, but Martin ducked and the guitar shattered over the top turnbuckle! Jarrett turned around...BIG BOOT from Martin! Martin pulled Jarrett back up to his feet and brought him to the center of the ring...PUMPHANDLE SLAM! Martin made the cover - One, Two, Three! Andrew Martin wins and sends Jarrett packing from WCW! WINNER - Andrew Martin by pinfall (64/73/72) After the match, a defeated Jeff Jarrett had to deal with the fans waving him "goodbye" as he stormed up the aisle. WCW United States Title Match Shane Douglas (c) vs. Dustin Rhodes From the opening bell, these two went head on at each other as it looked like it was going to be a good old fashion slugfest. This style seemed to fave Rhodes, who took an early advantage in the ring...but the fight quickly spilt to the outside and even up the ramp. Douglas took his turn on the offensive, throwing Rhodes into the guard rail and lighting his chest up with some stiff chops. Referee Charles Robinson tried to get the men back in the ring, but they kept right on fighting on the outside. Douglas brought Rhodes back closer to the ring, driving his head into the ringsteps before rolling Rhodes back into the ring. Douglas went for the cover but Rhodes kicked out at two. Douglas got up, not about to let Rhodes get back to his feet and stomped into his back. Douglas continued to dominate the offense - but had could not put Rhodes away. Rhodes kept kicking out of everything Douglas had to throw at him, and the fans were solidly behind Rhodes as he began to find a second wind. Rhodes fought back with rights, lefts, and some elbows ala his old man to lay out Douglas and finish off his comeback. Rhodes road his wave of momentum into firm control of the champion, working Douglas over into the corner - climbing and performing a ten count punch before jumping down and hitting a running bulldog out of the corner onto Douglas. A pinfall attempt netted a two count with Douglas kicking out right at three. Rhodes got up and continued on the attack...getting Douglas back in the corner and hitting him with several shoulder thrusts. Rhodes backed up and charged in for a running shoulder thrust, but Douglas moved and sent Rhodes threw the turnbuckles - his shoulder colliding with the ring post. Douglas took advantage, focusing his attack in Rhode's shoulder. Douglas would eventually go for the Pittsburgh Plunge, but Rhodes fought free. Rhodes hit a sidewalk slam to Douglas - but was slow to make the cover due to selling his shoulder. Douglas kicked out after two, and Rhodes lifted him up to attempt the Final Cut, but his shoulder was in too much pain to lift Douglas. Rhodes stumbled back, selling the shoulder again - giving Douglas enough time to recover and hit the Franchiser to Rhodes! Douglas made the cover and picked up the three count victory. WINNER - Shane Douglas by pinfall (67/77/71) Shane Douglas celebrated with the United States title as Mike Tenay kicked it back to Scott Hudson in the back for Shane McMahon's special announcement. Shane McMahon commented on he felt the first month of the return of WCW to television under his control had gone smoothly. Behind the scenes he had already been working on getting WCW Thunder back on the air - with his aim to compete directly against WWF Smackdown on Thursday nights. Not only that but he wanted to get onto one of the major television networks outside of cable to get more exposure to the WCW product. That's why he's proud to say that beginning June 7th - WCW Thursday Night Thunder would be airing on the WB network in direct competition with WWF's Smackdown on UPN. And he wanted to make sure the return episode was a big one...so the first Thunder on WB will feature the return of WCW's Battlebowl! 10 teams will be picked by Lethal Lottery and pit against each other in 5 matches. The 5 winning teams will advance to a 10-man battle royal with the winner receiving a shot at the WCW Title! He also wanted to thank the fans for buying Slamboree and wanted to go ahead and start hyping the next WCW PPV in June which is The Great American Bash. He has already planned the main event for The Bash to be a Four-Way match for the WCW Title! Whoever walks out champion tonight will defend against three other competitors in an all out war! This week on Nitro, he will announce how we will find the first challenger. (75%) Six Man Tag Match Sting, Diamond Dallas Page & Hugh Morrus vs. The Gentlemen's Club (w/Stacy Keibler) Sting started the match out against Curt Hennig, the two circled the ring before finally locking up. From the lock up the two traded hammerlocks until Hennig sent Sting into the ropes only to get a shoulderblock off the ropes from Sting. Hennig recovered and went back at Sting - the two trading holds back and forth until Hennig made the tag to Jindrak. Jindrak and Hennig sent Sting into the ropes, but Sting ducked a double clothesline and leaped into the air taking both men down with a double clothesline of his own. Hennig rolled to the outside and Sting took control of Jindrak, tagging in Hugh Morrus. Morrus picked up where Sting left off, keeping Jindrak on the mat. Morrus dropped an elbow down onto Jindrak and went for the pin, but Stasiak broke it up. Morrus fought off Stasiak, but Jindrak had recovered and hit Morrus from behind with a back suplex. Jindrak took control briefly, tagging in Stasiak and the two hit Morrus with a double suplex. Stasiak went for the cover, but only picked up a two count. Stasiak attempted to pick up where Jindrak left off, but Morrus began to fight back, and caught Stasiak off the ropes and powerslammed him to the mat. Morrus tagged in Page, who went right to work on Stasiak, sending him into the corner and firing away with rights and lefts. Stasiak stumbled out into a tiltawhirl slam form Page. Page made the cover but only got two on Stasiak. Page continued on the offensive until Hennig snuck in a cheapshot from the apron to Page to allow Stasiak back into the fight. Stasiak tagged Hennig back in, and they double teamed Page until the referee forced Stasiak out. Hennig went to work on Page - driving his knee repeatedly into Page's back. The heels began to take turns tagging in and laying out the punishment to Page while Sting and Morrus kept trying to rally Page back so he could make the tag. Hennig would again find himself in the ring with Page and went for the Hennigplex, but Page countered with an armbar takedown! Page rolled to the corner and made the tag to Hugh Morrus! Morrus came in and cleared house of Hennig and then took on Stasiak and Jindrak as they entered the ring as well. Morrus turned his attention back to Hennig, sending him into the corner and running in with a splash before walking out with a sidewalk slam to Hennig. Morrus tried to ride the momentum into a No Laughing Matter, but Jindrak entered and rolled Hennig out of the way! Morrus hit the canvas hard and both men were down and trying to make the tag. Morrus tagged in Sting as Hennig tagged in Jindrak. Jindrak came in and was met with a huge chop from Sting that laid out Jindrak. Stasiak came off the top turnbuckle, but Sting met him with a fist to the midsection and dropped him with a jumping DDT. Sting went back to work on Jindrak, but when Hennig tried to attack him from behind...Page cut him off and it was two-on-two in the ring. Page and Hennig spilt out to ringside as Sting hit a pair of Stinger Splashes to Jindrak and laid him out on the mat. Sting stepped in and turned Jindrak over into the Scorpion Deathlock! It looked like Jindrak might type out, but Stasiak broke it up! Morrus stepped in to save Sting from the Stasiak attack. Morrus lifted Stasiak up into a Military press and tossed him over the top rope to the floor! Morrus stepped onto the apron and dropped an elbow off the apron to Stasiak! Hennig rolled back into the ring, but Page came up behind him, spun him around and laid him out with the Diamond Cutter! This left just Jindrak stumbling to his feet...Sting pulled his head back...Scorpion Deathdrop! Sting made the cover - One, Two, Three! WINNERS - Sting, DDP, & Hugh Morrus by pinfall (63/73/69) The faces celebrated in the ring - but the Gentlemen's Club was not satisfied with a loss..and attacked the faces in the ring. All six men brawled out of the ring as the cage began to lower for the main event. Sting, DDP, and Hugh Morrus fended themselves and chased the heels to the back, keeping them from being at ringside for the main event. WCW World Title Cage Match Ric Flair (c) vs. Booker T As the competitors made their way to the ring by themselves, Mike Tenay and Glenn Gilbertti couldn't help but remind us of the 'insurance policy' Flair had brought up early in the evening. What could Flair possibly have meant? In any event, Booker T and Flair entered the cage and it was locked behind them by referee Nick Patrick. The rules of the match were such that you had to escape the cage to win. Flair and Booker T started the match off by trading chops, which Flair got the upperhand in and took control early. Flair was looking to use the cage to his advantage early, tossing Booker head first into the steal and grinding Booker's face up against the side of the cage. Flair dropped Booker in the center of the ring with a back suplex and started to climb the side of the cage. Flair didn't get far before Booker recovered and caught up to him...and Booker came off the cage with a back superplex! Both men were slow to recover, but Booker recovered first and took control over Flair. Booker gave Flair a taste of his own medicine, throwing him head first into the cage repeatedly. Booker laid out Flair with a bicycle kick and then began to climb the cage himself. Booker also didn't get far before Flair caught him and raked his back before throwing him off the cage to the floor. Flair retook control of Booker and began pounding his fist repeatedly into the fallen Booker's forehead. After some more offense from Flair that seemed to have Booker T down, Flair began to scale the cage again. Flair slowly climbed the cage as Booker began to recover. Booker also climbed up the cage and caught up to Flair...both men sat atop the cage and began trading chops back and forth. Both men teetered uncomfortably towards falling off the cage, but it was Flair who got the last chop in that was able to give him the momentum he needed to toss Booker T off the top of the cage to the canvas! Booker landed on his back, but Flair was unable to capitalize as the force of tossing Booker caused him to lose balance himself. He fell crotch first across the top rope! Flair hit the mat and both men were down. Booker began to crawl for the cage door, which Nick Patrick opened as Booker began to make his way. Booker had his head out the door when Flair grabbed his foot and pulled him back to the center of the ring. Flair locked on the Figure Four leglock, which Tenay noted was just to cause more punishment to Booker as a submission here does not matter. While having Booker in the leglock, Flair began to scoot towards the cage door. Once he was in the ropes, Flair began trying to scoot himself out of the cage while still having Booker in the leglock! Flair was literally hanging out of the cage, with his head inches from touching the floor, but Booker was grabbing the ropes and not letting Flair get the extra couple inches he needed to touch the floor and win! With the crowd behind him, Booker T muscled his way backwards and pulled Flair back into the ring while still being in the leglock! Booker T then rolled over, putting the tension on Flair's own legs! Flair immediately pulled himself free of the leglock. Flair hobbled to his feet as Booker T very slowly tried to recover as well. Flair met Booker with a pair of chops before sending Booker off the ropes, but Booker held onto the ropes to stop himself. Flair charged in, and Booker lifted him up into a backdrop that sent Flair crashing into the side of the cage! Booker T stumbled to the mat, but recovered back to his feet with a spinaroonie to a pop from the crowd. Flair stumbled to his feet and walked into a kick to the midsection. Booker bounced off the ropes and hit the Scissors Kick. Flair was down, but so was Booker, selling the effects of the Figure Four to his leg. Booker began to crawl for the cage door. Nick Patrick opened the door and waited as Booker inched his way towards victory...but as Booker stuck his head out the door...Curt Hennig came from the crowd and pushed passed Nick Patrick. Hennig slammed the chair into Booker's face! Booker T rolled back in the ring, holding his face in pain as Nick Patrick yelled at Hennig. Hennig yelled for Flair to make his way out of the cage with Booker T seemingly out of it now....but suddenly, from the back came...GOLDBERG! The crowd popped huge for his return. Hennig spotted Goldberg and immediately shut and locked the cage and ran around ringside as Goldberg gave chase. Hennig, looking for refuge from Goldberg, began climbing the cage to escape. Goldberg paced around ringside as he watched Hennig climbing into the ring while Flair was also getting to his feet, leaving Booker T alone in the cage for a two-on-one. Goldberg began violently shaking the cage door...until it came off it's hinges! Tenay marveled at Goldberg's strength and power as he entered the cage. Flair and Hennig stood in shock as Goldberg measured them up while Booker T was getting to his feet...Goldberg charged in and...HIT BOOKER T WITH THE SPEAR! Tenay shouted an bleeped obscenity as Goldberg stood up and suddenly found the deafening pop he got earlier turning into loud boos. Flair and Hennig smiled, shook hands with Goldberg to the disbelief of everyone else involved. Goldberg and Hennig walked out to the door of the cage as Flair dropped to the mat and pretened to have to CRAWL to the cage door. Hennig and Goldberg helped pulled Flair out the door and set him on the ground. Nick Patrick didn't want to call for the bell, but when Goldberg screamed in his face to call for the bell...Nick Patrick had no choice. He rang the bell, officially ending the match. WINNER - Ric Flair by cage escape (78/97/67) The show came to a close as Mike Tenay and Gilbertti continued to share their disbelief at what they had just witnessed. Goldberg lifted Flair's arm up in victory from the stage as the show faded out. OVERALL 67% |

Great PPV Dubb. The return of Goldberg, the return of Battlebowl, the antics of a crazed Sean O'Haire, and the retirement of Jarrett were all great. |

WCW Tuesday Nitro May 29, 2001 Announcers: Mike Tenay & Glenn Gilbertti The show opened up with the highlights from Sunday night's main event of Booker T Vs. Ric Flair inside the steel cage for the WCW Title. The highlights focused on Booker T's near win but the arrival of Curt Hennig and then the turn by Goldberg to align himself with the Gentlemen's Club to help Ric Flair pick up the win to retain the title. Mike Tenay and Glen Gilbertti continued the discussion right off the top of the show - still in shock from what transpired at Slamboree. The Gentlemen's Club made their way down to the ring to open the show, each man dressed in fancy suits and ties including the newest member, Goldberg. Ric Flair took the microphone and immediately began gloating over the victory and the fact that Goldberg has aligned himself with the group. He was sure EVERYONE wanted to know "WHY GOLDBERG WHY?" - so Flair gave the microphone over to Goldberg to answer that for himself. Goldberg took the microphone and smirked as the crowd greeted him with deafening boos. Goldberg egged the crowd on, just asking for more boos. Goldberg claimed that the boos were music to his ears. Goldberg explained that he had sat on the shelf for the last several months, just itching to get back into action...but while he was gone, he couldn't help but notice the lack of attention he was getting. No one was asking where Goldberg was. No one was talking about how much they want Goldberg back. Goldberg resented the lack of attention...claiming that if someone like Sting were out of action, the crowd would probably spend the entire show chanting "WE WANT STING!" But where were the "WE WANT GOLDBERG" chants? Goldberg claimed the fans never cared about him, so why should he care about the fans? Furthermore, Goldberg has already proven how great he is. He went undefeated 173 wins in a row, something NO ONE had ever done before him. And to align himself with Ric Flair, a 17 time World Champion...something NO ONE has ever done or probably will do ever again...well unless Goldberg himself gets to, he joked. And yeah, Flair offered him some money too...he wasn't afraid to admit it. Being out of action for a few months leaves you low on the income. Flair was proud to welcome Goldberg to the Gentlemen's Club, and said Goldberg would fit right in and provide the 'muscle' the team needed. Flair proudly displayed his WCW Title and commented on the announcement Shane McMahon made Sunday night that he would be defending it in a four-way match at The Great American Bash. Flair found this highly unfair, and said that if he's going to have to defend his title against three people - he should get to determine the 3 challengers. Out came Shane McMahon to respond. Shane said that he appreciated the input from Flair on what he wants to do, but as he's told him before - he doesn't make the decisions around here anymore - HE does. But since he brought up the Four-Way match, Shane does have an announcement to make concerning that match...by the end of the night tonight, the first challenger for that Four-Way would be determined. Tonight, there will be three qualifying matches with the winners advancing to a triple threat match...the winner of that match will be Flair's first challenger for The Great American Bash. In fact, the first match will get started right after the break as Booker T will take on Hugh Morrus! Flair did not seem happy that Booker T would have another opportunity at the title, but Shane McMahon had spoken. (88%) ----- Qualifying Match Booker T vs. Hugh Morrus Morrus and Booker T showed their mutual respect to start the match off with a handshake. The two went back and forth from the opening bell, as Mike Tenay ran down each man's history with the Gentlemen's Club and how Booker T deserves another title shot while Hugh Morrus was so close to winning the title against Flair last week on Nitro as well. Morrus overpowered Booker T and picked up a couple nearfalls before Booker T began to fight his way back into the match. Booker T used an assortment of kicking offense to stagger Morrus and drop him to the mat. Booker T went for the Scissors Kick, but Morrus moved out of the way and hit Booker with a belly-to-belly suplex! Morrus used a lot of energy to hit that last move and was slow to recover...while he crawled to the corner to go for the No Laughing Matter - Stacy Keibler and Curt Hennig came down to the ring. Keibler distracted the referee while Hennig entered the ring behind the ref and Hugh Morrus' back. Morrus was busy slowly climbing the top turnbuckle as Booker T had started to recover, but Hennig attacked Booker T and laid him out with the Hennigplex! Hennig rolled out of the ring as Keibler jumped down. Morrus made it to the top turnbuckle, looked behind himself to verify Booker T's position - NO LAUGHING MATTER! Morrus made the cover, still unbeknown to him what had just happened. Morrus picked up the three for the win to advance to the main event. WINNER - Hugh Morrus by pinfall via interference (70/71/69) Tenay remarked how low the Gentlemen's Club have gone to make sure Booker T does not get another title shot against Flair. Tenay said he knew once Morrus found out what happened, he will wish he didn't win that way. Gilbertti defended Morrus' win - claiming a win was a win, and this win gets Morrus closer to a title shot. ----- I Think Sean's Gone Crazy Backstage, Scott Hudson was standing by with one half of the former tag champions, Chuck Palumbo. Hudson wanted to get the 4-1-1 on what was going on with Sean O'Haire after Sunday's vicious attack, from his own partner! Palumbo said he has no idea what's going on inside that guy's head...he has seriously gone off the wall coo-coo. Palumbo said he was tired of trying to help him, only to have something like what happened Sunday. He's done being there for Sean. He has told him time and time again he needs to get some mental evaluation, but he doesn't believe there's a problem. The guy has issues, Palumbo explained. But, as far as their team goes...after Sunday night - they're done. He can't team with someone so unstable. It's not good for his OWN health. So whatever mental issues O'Haire has...as far as Palumbo is concerned, they are not his problem anymore. (64%) ----- Extreme Championship Tournament Terry Funk vs. Chris Candido (w/Tammy Sytch) The Extreme Championship tournament continued as the legend of hardcore himself Terry Funk went up against a man no stranger to extreme competition, Chris candido. Tenay reminded us that Candido is a former cruiserweight champion, but now is looking to add another belt to his resume. Unfortunately for Candido, Terry Funk may be an 'old-timer' - but he certainly came prepared. And there's no one in this tournament with more experience that the Funkster. Candido managed to get some offense in against Funk, but Funk took everything Candido threw at him and just kept getting up - asking for more. Funk fought through the chair shots and showed Candido how you really deliver a chairshot - leveling Candido to the floor. Funk continued on the attack, finishing Candido off with a piledriver for the victory. WINNER - Terry Funk by pinfall (68/60/76) ----- Qualifying Match Lance Storm vs. Sting Lance Storm may still be alive in the Extreme Championship Tournament, but that doesn't stop him from going all in to try and earn a shot at the WCW Title as well. Tenay went over Storm's title resume, which is an impressive one...Tenay mentioned that Storm has held every singles title in WCW except the World Title and was the first ever triple champion in WCW history when he held the Hardcore, Cruiserweight, and US Title's all at the same time. Storm would love to make it a clean sweep and have held all four singles championships in WCW...but getting past Sting would certainly be a tall order for any man. Sting came prepared as well, looking as focused as ever as he took on Storm. Sting was in control early, but Storm fought back and began to wear down the former WCW Champion. Storm looked impressive as Sting was truly putting him over with his offense during the match. After taking firm control over Sting and getting a few nearfalls, Storm ran into trouble when he tried to take the risk up a notch by putting Sting on the top turnbuckle. Storm tried to superplex Sting, but Sting fought back and tossed Storm off the turnbuckles. Storm stumbled to his feet as Sting measured him up from the top rope - Sting came off with a flying crossbody, but Storm rolled through! One, Two, Thre...Sting kicked out! Both men rolled to their feet at the same time, but Storm struck first - hitting Sting with a dropkick. Storm went back on the attack, and after laying out Sting with a superkick - Storm went for the cover again but once again only got two. Storm began to grow frustration, sensing he was so close to advancing to the main event...but he just couldn't put Sting away. Storm would eventually lock Sting into the Canadian Maple Leaf - but Sting refused to submit! With the crowd cheering loudly for the Stinger, Sting managed to pull himself to the ropes to break up the hold. An attempt of a Northern Light Suplex by Storm would turn into the turning poitn of the match, as Sting reversed it and dropped Storm with a DDT. Both men were down, and a ten count ensued. They both reached their feet at about 8 and Sting began unloading rights and lefts to Storm as the crowd cheered every punch. Sting sent Storm into the ropes and hit him with a Stinger Splash followed by a second Stinger Splash in the opposite corner. Storm tried to fight off Sting as he went for the Scorpion Deathlock, but Sting was able to hold him off and turn him over! Storm fought off the pain as long as he could - but had to tap out. WINNER - Sting by submission (87/91/81) After the match, Sting celebrated while Lance Storm vented his frustration at ringside and up the aisle. ----- Do What Ya Gotta Do Backstage, Scott Hudson had caught up with Booker T to get a follow up on his loss earlier in the night. Booker T voiced his frustrations with the Gentlemen's Club, most noteably Curt Hennig, in the way he always seems to be there - no matter what. He compared Hennig to an annoying gnat and said he couldn't wait for his chance to squash Hennig like the little gnat he is. Hugh Morrus entered the shot and wanted to apologize to Booker for how he won the match. He wanted to make sure Booker knew he had no idea what happened. Booker T shook Morrus' hand and told him that he doesn't need to apologize. He told Morrus that he should go out there tonight and concentrate on winning a title shot and taking the belt away from Flair. Morrus said that he was looking forward to being the man to do just that. (91%) ----- *From this point forward, I had typed everything up and accidentally closed out before saving...so the results won't be as detailed as they originally were out of frustration* Extreme Championship Tournament Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Crowbar Bigelow dominated the majority of the match with his overall size and power, taking the fight to ringside and using whatever he could find as a weapon. But no matter how much punishment he dished out to Crowbar, Crowbar just kept smiling. Crowbar would eventually take the fight back into the ring, bringing along his crowbar. He smashed the crowbar across Bigelow's kneecap and then used the crowbar to wrap around Bigelow's throat and deliver a reverse DDT to pick up the three count victory. WINNER - Crowbar by pinfall 62/48/76) ----- Qualifying Match Diamond Dallas Page vs. Shane Douglas In the final qualifying match of the night - it would between the three-time WCW Champion and the current United States Champion to determine who will go on to the main event to wrestle for a spot in the Great American Bash Main Event. Page looked good early, taking control of the US Champ - but Douglas began to outsmart Page and took control of the match. But Douglas was unable to put Page away, and began to grow frustrated. This allowed Page to fight his way back to his feet and retake control of the match. Page looked to be riding the momentum to the finish, but suddenly Kimberly Page showed back up in WCW as she walked out from the back and taunted Page from the aisle. This instantly grabbed DDP's attention and he was demanding to know what she was doing out there...all this provided Douglas with enough time to recover. Page turned around right into the FRANCHISER for the three count. WINNER - Shane Douglas by pinfall via interference (75/78/71) ----- She's Back! Backstage, Scott Hudson caught up to the returning Kimberly Page and wanted to know the story of what she was doing back and what was going on between the two spurned lovers. Kimberly explained that she would give us all the answers in due time, but for now she just wanted to deliver a message to her 'husband' to let him know that he could not just push her out of the business that easily. She's back and she has replaced Page with someone younger, stronger, and a lot better looking. Hudson wanted to know who, but Page just smiled and said we would find out soon enough. She blew a kiss to the camera before walking off screen. DDP's voice could be heard off screen yelling out for 'Kim' - but as he walked by the camera, he turned and shoved the camera out of his face before continuing after his seperated wife. (72%) ----- Eyes on the Gold Elsewhere backstage, The Filthy Animals were hanging out with Torrie Wilson when Stacy Keibler approached the group. Wilson wanted to know what Keibler wanted, and Keibler just said she couldn't help but admire the belts from across the room...said the belts lookd good in this light. Wilson retorted, saying of course they look good around the waists of Mysterio and Kidman. But Keibler just laughed and responded that the belts actually look a little 'greasy' with those two holding the titles. They would look better around the more sophisticated, more clean-cut, and more professional waists of the Gentlemen's Club. Kidman and Rey took offense, but they were attacked from behind by Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak. Rey and Kidman began to fight back, but WCW officials stepped in to break up the brawl. (79%) ----- Main Event - Great American Bash Contender's Match Hugh Morrus vs. Sting vs. Shane Douglas The first challenger's spot was on the line in tonight's main event and it would be either one of these three who would be in the four-way match at Great American Bash against Ric Flair for the WCW Title. Mike Tenay found the match interesting because only Sting has tasted WCW Championship gold before of these three - so no doubt the other two would be hungry for that first taste. After trying to match up with Sting and Morrus early, Shane Douglas quickly became aware that the numbers were not in his favor in this match...so after being on the receiving end of Sting's right hand...Douglas fell to ringside where he would spend the majority of the match feigning injury - while Sting and Hugh Morrus wrestled in the ring. Morrus was definitely eager to get his first WCW Championship title, as he was looking determined as he went toe-to-toe with the iconic Sting. Morrus was demonstrating his ability as he stayed in control of Sting from pillar to post, picking up several nearfalls along the way - but Stinger, not one to roll over and give up a title shot, kept kicking out. Morrus lifted Sting up into a military press, but Shane Douglas entered the ring and decided to make his move - he hit Morrus with a chopblock, sending Sting and Morrus both crashing to the floor. Douglas went on the attack to Morrus, pounding his first repeatedly into Morrus' head. Douglas sent Morus to the outside so he could focus on the already weary Sting. Sting was just starting to pull himself up when Douglas went on the offensive, hitting Sting with a big side belly-to-belly suplex. Douglas began to grow more and more confident as he continued on the offensive - he could just see his arm being raised already. However, when he went for the Pittsburgh Plunge, Hugh Morrus climbed back into the ring and put a stop to Douglas' offense! Morrus overpowed Douglas and sent him into the corner. Morrus backed up and charged in with a running spash to Douglas before whipping him into the opposite corner. Morrus charged in for a second splash, but Douglas got his boot up. Morrus stumbled out of the way..as Sting suddenly came out of nowhere and hit Douglas with a Stinger Splash! Sting whipped DOuglas back into the opposite corner and gave him another Stinger Splash! Douglas stumbled out of the corner into a clothesline from Sting. Morrus got to his feet and went after Sting but was met with some right and lefts from Sting before Sting clotheslined Morrus over the top rope to the floor. Shane Douglas was staggering to his feet, but Sting grabbed him and dropped him with the Scorpion Deathdrop! Sting made the cover - One, Two, Three! Sting advanced to the Great American Bash main event and will be one of the challengers for Ric Flair's WCW World Title! WINNER - Sting by pinfall (73/77/66) After the match, Sting celebrated his victory as Hugh Morrus re-entered the ring and showed good sportsmanship as he raised Sting's arm up in victory. However, Shane Douglas was not such a good sport as he attacked Sting from behind! Hugh Morrus made the save, fighting off Douglas and sent him packing from the ring. Shane Douglas grabbed his United States Title and huffed and puffed his way back up the aisle in frustration as Sting and Hugh Morrus continued to celebrate in the ring for the fans. OVERALL - 75% |

WCW Tuesday Nitro June 4, 2001 Announcers: Mike Tenay & Glenn Gilbertti Welcome to WCW Tuesday Nitro! Mike Tenay welcomed us and immediately began hyping up the show as tonight there would be a 10-man Gauntlet match to determine who would be the second challenger in the four-way WCW Championship match at The Great American Bash. Last week, we determined that Sting would be the first challenger...but who will it be tonight? Mike Tenay explained that no-one even knows who the 10 people competing in the gauntlet are! Maritial Problems To kick the show off, the returning Kimberly Page made her way down to the ring to scattered boos. She climbed into the ring and sarcastically thanked the crowd for their reaction. She apologized for her absence, but assured us it wasn't because she didn't want to be out here for 'her' fans...but her awful husband Dallas Page was doing everything in his power to keep her from 'us.' She didn't want to burden us with their maritial issues, but let's just say Page isn't the ideal husband. Honestly, she's not sure what she ever saw in him. "I mean, have you seen ME?" she asked as she flaunted herself, "and have you seen HIM." She was looking forward to when she get rid herself of his last name and make their divorce official. Out came Diamond Dallas Page to cheers from the fan, but Page came out with no music and was very serious as he entered the ring. He wanted Kimberly to come backstage so they could talk about this. He said she doesn't need to be out here airing their laundry for the world to see. This is personal, he said. "There he goes" she yelped, "he wants to hide who he truly is from you people!" Kimberly said it the fans knew what kind of person DDP really was - we certainly wouldn't be cheering for him. Page, calmly, told Kimberly to relax and they would talk about this backstage. Kimberly argued, saying whatever he had to say to her he could say infront of 'all his fans.' Kimberly said she wasn't interested in going backstage and she was glad he came out here because she had been meaning to admit something to him. She said that since they seperated, she had started to 'see' someone. Page began to have a hard time hiding his anger as his blood began to boil. He wanted to know who, but Kimberly kept on - telling Page how great he was and how he was 5 times the man he ever was. How much younger, stronger, and better looking he was than Page. Page once again wanted to know WHO. But Kimberly ignored him, and continued to gloat about his 'replacement.' As Page began to grow more and more frustrated, his question would soon be answered as Johnny the Bull slid into the ring with a chair and whacked Page across the back! The crowd booed as Kimberly enjoyed watching Johnny lay a few more chair shots to Page's back before picking Page up and lifting him up into a Military Press and dropping him with the Fuh-get-a-bout-it! Kimberly introduced us to the 'new man' in her life - Johnny "The Bull" Stamboli! She brought him in for a big kiss over the fallen body of her husband. (74%) ----- Chris Kanyon vs. Andrew Martin As the match got underway, Mike Tenay reminded us that we should be thanking Andrew Martin for finally getting rid of Jeff Jarrett for WCW. He said not many people in the back were sad to see Martin win that match at Slamboree. Martin was back in action tonight against Kanyon, who wanted to know if anyone was better than him - well, apparently Martin is as while Kanyon got in some limited offense, it was Martin who dominated Kanyon and finished him off with the Pumphandle Slim for the victory. WINNER - Andrew Martin by pinfall (70/71/70) The Legend of Jarrett? After the match, as Martin was having his arm raised in victory Mike Sanders made his way out from the back. Sanders congratulated Martin on his victory and his victory at Slamboree...he wanted to know how it felt to be the man responsible for putting a 'legend' out of a job. Sanders called Jeff Jarrett one of the greatest wrestlers to ever grace the WCW ring...a former champion and future Hall of Famer, put out of work by some nobody like Andrew Martin. Sanders could not express in words how upset it made him that Andrew Martin was responsible for his good friend Jeff Jarrett no longer being with wCW. Andrew Martin took the microphone and told Sanders if he had a problem with him and what he did - then by all means come on down to the ring and do something about it. Martin was ready for another fight, but Sanders clearly was not interested. Sanders said he would love nothing more than to come down there and put Martin out of the wrestling business COMPLETELY. But why do something yourself when someone else is willing to do it for you. Martin seemed confused, but Sanders told him to turn around. When Martin turned around he was met by the huge clutch of The Wall! The Wall lifted Martin up and CHOKESLAMMED him to the mat! Sanders walked down to the ring and joined The Wall in the ring. Sanders said he inlisted the help of The Wall to make sure that Jeff Jarrett was AVENGED. He would not rest until Andrew Martin suffered the same fate as Jeff Jarrett. (82%) ----- Destined for Greatness Stacy Keibler led the Gentlemen's Club duo of Mark Jindrak & Shawn Stasiak down to the ring to loud boos from the crowd. Mark Jindrak was dressed to wrestle while Stasiak was dressed in a suit. Keibler took the microphone and wanted to announce that soon Ric Flair would not be the only member of the Gentlemen's Club wearing gold around his waist. At The Great American Bash, Jindrak & Stasiak would become the WCW Tag Team Champions. That's right, after last week...the match was made and the titles will be on the line. She explained that Jindrak and Stasiak are destined for greatness, and that the tag titles are just the beginning for them. Tonight - they were going to make an example out of Billy Kidman, and show them what they can expect when they do face off for the tag titles. (83%) ----- Billy Kidman (w/Torrie Wilson & Rey Mysterio) vs. Mark Jindrak (w/Stacy Keibler & Shawn Stasiak) Despite the loud reactions the crowd was giving Keibler in the ring, once she left and it was down to Jindrak and Kidman - the crowd seemed to check out. The match itself didn't do much to draw them back in...Kidman used his speed early to have the upperhand, but soon Jindrak muscled his way into control. Kidman spent the majority of the match selling Jindrak's offense while Rey cheered him on from ringside to try and get him back into the match. A backsuplex attempt from Jindrak resulted in a back flip from Kidman. Kidman landed on his feet and hit an inverted facebuster to Jindrak! Kidman started to rally and went for the Kid Krusher, but Shawn Stasiak jumped to the apron! Kidman threw Jindrak into Stasiak! The two collided and Kidman rolled up Jindrak - One, Two, Th..kickout by Jindrak. Kidman dropped Jindrak with a sitout facebuster and went for another pin, but Keibler put Jindrak's foot on the rope behind the referee's back. The referee noticed at two and called the cover off. Rey Mysterio argued on the apron, which actually only managed to distract the referee while Kidman was climbing to the top turnbuckle. Keibler jumped to the apron and shoved Kidman off the turnbuckle to the mat! An upset Rey ran around the ring but was cut off by Stasiak! Back in the ring, Jindrak recovered and hit Kidman with the Mark of Excellence for the win! WINNER - Mark Jindrak by pinfall via interference (67/59/76) Post match, Stasiak & Jindrak retreated with Keibler before Rey could fight back. Rey entered the ring and tended to his partner while the Gentlemen's Club celebrated on the stage and headed to the back. ----- The Lethal Lottery Backstage, Shane McMahon was ready to announce the teams for BATTLEBOWL which would take place this Thursday on the return of WCW Thunder. McMahon reminded us that the five winning teams would advance to the BattleBowl Battle Royal and the winner will earn a title shot...and the winner won't even have to wait long to get the title shot. Because the winner will get the shot right here on Nitro NEXT WEEK! So without further adue...here are the 10 teams facing off in BattleBowl on this week's return of Thunder. -Mike Awesome and Diamond Dallas Page -Billy Kidman and Andrew Martin -Shane Helms and Hugh Morrus -Sean O'Haire and Crowbar -Shane Douglas and Konnan -Lance Storm and Mark Jindrak -Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk -Rey Mysterio and Shawn Stasiak -Dustin Rhodes and Chuck Palumbo and finally -Booker T and Curt Hennig! McMahon was excited and reminded us to tune in to the WB network this Thursday for the return of Thunder AND BattleBowl! (81%) ----- Extreme Championship Tournament Mike Awesome vs. Jamie Noble As the competitors made their way out, Mike Tenay and Glenn Gilbertti continued to hype up BattleBowl. Mike Awesome would be one of the competitors in BattleBowl, and Tenay was interested in the dynamics of some of the teams like Awesome and Dallas Page having to coexist to earn a shot at the WCW Title. In this match there wasn't much coexisting at all as this was about as big a mismatch as you can find. Awesome didn't even resort to much use of weapons as he just overpowered Noble and tossed him around the ring like a ragdoll. Awesome did break out a table and set it up, rolling Noble onto the table before climbing out to the top turnbuckle and coming off the top rope with the Awesome Splash through the table! Awesome made the cover and picked up the easy victory to advance to the semifinals. WINNER - Mike Awesome by pinfall (67/61/74) After the match - not satisfied with the dismantling he had already done - Awesome set up a second table at ringside. He went back into the ring and picked up Noble's seemingly lifeless body...and hit a Running Awesome Bomb that threw Noble out of the ring through the table at ringside! Awesome threw his arms in the air, satisfied with the carnage he left as paramedics rushed to Noble's aid. ----- A Franchise Champion The United States Champion, Shane Douglas made his way down to the ring, dressed to wrestle with his title around his waist. Douglas took the microphone and gloated about his victory over Dustin Rhodes at Slamboree. He said it was shame he was screwed out of a WCW Title shot last week, but he was looking forward to BattleBowl, so he could become the next great superstar to win the World Title while also holding the US Title. He said not even teaming with Konnan can stop him from becoming WCW's Franchise Champion. He repeated his previous declaration that there were no qualified challengers for his US Title, and no one worthy of holding the belt but him. BUFF....DAAAAADDDDYYYY Buff Bagwell answered the call, coming down to the ring to scattered boos and a few cheers. Bagwell climbed into the ring and said Douglas may think there's no one who can challenge him...but he hasn't stepped in the ring with the Buff Daddy yet. Bagwell told Douglas he may be 'the franchise' but he's not BUFF, and he's certainly not the STUFF. (71%) ----- United States Title Match Shane Douglas (c) vs. Buff Bagwell The crowd had no idea what to do here as they disliked both men, and had no interest in cheering for Bagwell over Douglas...so they just pretty much sat on their hands and watched the match. Unfortunately for them, the match was nothing to write home about, so that didn't help their excitement level either. Bagwell and Douglas traded offense back and forth, both sneaking in cheap shots to the other. The crowd let out a collective yawn as Bagwell laid out Douglas and began climbing to the top turnbuckle, signalling for the Blockbuster, but Douglas recovered and shook the ropes, sending Bagwell crotch first across the top turnbuckle. Douglas climbed up with Bagwell and hit a super belly-to-belly suplex. Both men were down as the referee began the ten count. Both started to stagger to their feet at around 7. A weary Bagwell took a wild right hand at Douglas, but Douglas ducked it and hit the Franchiser to Bagwell! Douglas made the cover and picked up the three count victory. WINNER - Shane Douglas by pinfall (58/55/61) - The WCW United States Title has lost image ----- Keep Dreamin' Pipsqueak Scott Hudson was standing by with WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Shane Helms to talk to him about the upcoming BattleBowl on Thursday. Helms was honored to be able to take part in the BattleBowl. He talked about his career thus far and his success in the Cruiserweight Division, and while he loves what he does in that division - he's always dreamed of following in the footsteps of the likes of Shawn Michaels and Rey Mysterio who have had such success beyond just one division. This was his first real opportunity to even get close to a WCW title shot...and sometimes chances like these are once in a lifetime for guys like him. And opportunity is what you make of it...and he plans to run with it. Ric Flair walked into the shot wearing a suit with the WCW title draped over his shoulder. Flair seemed to be holding back his laughter. He said he couldn't help but overhear the interview. He gave Helms a pat on the shoulder while laughing and said he admires him for his aspirations, but told him to 'keep dreamin' pipsqueak' and that he may want to reconsider stepping into the ring with the big boys. As a veteran, no a living legend in this business and a 17-time World Champion, Flair had this advice to offer for Shane Helms - stay in munchkin land because out hear in his territory - he will get eaten alive. Flair gave a big WOO right in Helms' face before heading off screen. Shane Helms smirked and said he's heard that all his life. He's never been afraid to step out of his comfort zone and enter unknown territory...and now's no different. He looked forward to Thursday night. And to Flair, he will keep dreaming - he will keep reaching for the stars...because you never know, one day you might grab one. (88%) ----- World Title Contendership Gauntlet Ric Flair made his way down to the ring to loud boos from the crowd before the first competitor even took the ring. Flair took a seat at ringside with Mike Tenay and Glenn Gilbertti. Gilbertti sucked up to the champion, welcoming him to the announce booth and offering to get him anything he wanted. Flair voiced his frustrations over the Four-Way match at Great American Bash, but wanted to get a closer look at who could be a 'contender.' Curt Hennig was the first man out for the gauntlet. Flair was VERY pleased as his Gentlemen's Club teammate made his way down to the ring. Flair said Hennig is a true champion and it would be an honor to defend the title against him if he won. DUstin Rhodes made his way down to the ring as Hennig's challenger. Flair talked about Rhode's father Dusty and his history with him...but then he cut Dustin down by saying Dustin couldn't lace up Dusty's large shoes. In the ring, Hennig and Rhodes went back and forth, with Rhodes starting to take control. Rhodes got in a few nearfalls over Hennig - including one after a running bulldog out of the corner. However, when Rhodes went for the Curtain Call - Hennig blocked it and snuck in a knee to Rhodes' groin that went undetected. With Rhodes doubled over in pain, Hennig hit the Hennigplex to pick up the three count to eliminate Rhodes. Flair applauded Hennig for his victory. Next up... Rey Mysterio! One half of the tag team champions sprinted down to the ring and immediately charged at Hennig. Hennig went for a clothesline, but Rey ducked and springboarded off the ropes with a backelbow to Hennig. Hennig was staggered and Rey continued to use his speed to get the upperhand on Hennig. Flair gave his thoughts about Rey, which will similar to his thoughts about Shane Helms. Rey looked firmly in control, until an attempted rana was countered by Hennig with a powerbomb. Hennig immediately went on the attack to keep the speedy Rey from being able to use that advantage. Hennig grounded the tag champion briefly, but Rey fought back and scored a sunset flip on Hennig for a two count. However, Hennig would sidestep a charging Rey in the corner, sending Rey crashing into the turnbuckles. Hennig rolled up Rey and grabbed a handful of tights to pick up a three count to eliminate Rey! Flair once again applauded Hennig, and liked seeing him taking some plays out of the dirties player in the game's playbook. Next up... Tommy Dreamer! Ric Flair acted like he didn't even know who Dreamer was, but an offended Tenay went over Dreamer's resume and his impressive run in the Extreme Division thus far. This was not the Extreme Division however, and it was all wrestling here as Hennig went after Dreamer. Dreamer had the advantage in that Hennig was showing signs of being in two matches already before this. After Dreamer took control with the offense, Hennig ducked to ringside to try and get a breather. Dreamer followed Hennig to ringside, as did the referee. At ringside, Flair tried to help Hennig out by taking Tenay's water bottle and splashing Dreamer in the face! The referee warned Flair, but the distraction allowed Hennig to hit Dreamer with a low blow and roll him back into the ring. Hennig climbed back in, picked Dreamer back up and hit the Hennigplex as the referee slid back in. A three count from the referee gave Hennig another victory and eliminated Tommy Dreamer. Next up... Booker T! Ric Flair was beside himself - Flair wanted to know how many chances Booker T was going to have before Shane McMahon realized Booker doesn't deserve another shot at the WCW Title. Booker T slid into the ring and immediately began brawling with Hennig. Hennig fought back, but with Booker T being a lot fresher than Hennig...Booker T was able to fend off Hennig's offense and lay out Hennig with the Scissors Kick! Booker T made the cover and picked up the three count, eliminating Hennig! Flair was visibly upset as Hennig rolled out of the ring. Stacy Keibler came down to check on Hennig. Next up.... Chuck Palumbo! Palumbo jogged down to the ring and was met right away by stiff chops from Booker. Palumbo fought back and get in some brief offense against Booker T. Palumbo laid out Booker T with a sidewalk slam and began to showboat, only to have Booker T get back to his feet with a spinaroonie! Palumbo turned around into a bicycle kick from Booker T! Stacy Keibler climbed onto the apron, distracting the referee while Hennig slid back into the ring with Flair's title...Booker T turned around and was laid out by a shot from the belt from Hennig! Hennig rolled out of the ring as Keibler climbed down as well. Flair was delighted as Palumbo rolled over and made the cover on Booker T...One, Two, Three! Palumbo was delighted to beat the former champion, but once Booker T recovered...he gave chase to Hennig all the way to the back. Next up... Sean O'Haire! Palumbo was ready for his next opponent...until he saw it was his former partner, O'Haire. O'Haire slowly made his way down to the ring, giving an odd smile as he rubbed his knuckles. Palumbo nervously watched as O'Haire stalked his way to the ring and slowly climbed the apron. Palumbo, apparently fearing for his safety, decided it wasn't worth it and ducked out of the ring and escaped through the crowd. The referee counted Palumbo out giving O'Haire the victory. O'Haire, slightly confused, simply shrugged his shoulders. Next up.... Evan Karagias! As Karagias hit the ring, Ric Flair admitted that 3 Count's music was a guilty pleasure of his. He said he has their CD playing in the Gentlemen's Club limo. Unfortunately, being a fan of 3 Count wasn't going to help Karagias out here. He tried to match up with the bigger and stronger O'Haire, but O'Haire put an end to any offense Karagias was going to mount with a short arm clothesline that literally flipped Karagias head over hills. O'Haire lifted Karagias up into a fireman's carry before swinging him around into a DDT. With Karagias down, O'Haire climbed to the top turnbuckle and came off with the Seanton Bomb, which was enough to pick up the three count to eliminate Karagias. Next up... Shawn Stasiak! With just two men left, Stasiak came out as man number 9. Flair was delighted and called Stasiak a true star in the rising. Much like Hennig, it would be an honor to defend the title against Stasiak. Tenay brought up that Stasiak and O'Haire have some history together as former groupmates...but that's all in the past as the two went toe-to-toe for a shot at the WCW title. Stasiak took control as Flair cheered him on from the announce booth. Stasiak picked up a couple nearfalls before O'Haire began to mount a comeback...only to have it ended as Stasiak took the cheapshot of yanking O'Haire to the mat by his hair. However, O'Haire popped back to his feet as he yelled out in anger...Stasiak looked around, confused about what was going on as O'Haire's eyes seemed to be popping out of his head. Suddenly, O'Haire unleashed a wild barrage of offense to Stasiak that caught Stasiak offguard. O'Haire worked Stasiak over in the corner with right and left jabs repeatedly into his chest and midsection until Stasiak was slumped over in the corner. O'Haire kneeled down and began choking Stasiak furiously until the referee stepped in. O'Haire stopped before he could be disqualified. Stasiak staggered to his feet only to get taken down by a superkick from O'Haire. O'Haire picked Stasiak back up again and this time dropped him to the mat with a rolling fireman's cary slam before climing to the top turnbuckle...another SEANTON Bomb and Stasiak was eliminated! O'Haire was just one elimination away from challenging for Ric Flair's WCW Title! The final competitor is.... Goldberg! The crowd immediately lit up with boos, while a joyous Flair got to his feet and gave Goldberg a standing ovation as he made his way down to the ring. Flair said he couldn't be more thrilled...Goldberg would be an excellent challenger and perhaps the only man he would be worried about losing to. A wildeyed O'Haire was up to the challenge as Goldberg entered the ring. O'Haire immediately met Goldberg with rights and lefts - which seemed to take Goldberg off guard. O'Haire sent Goldberg into the ropes and took him down with a big clothesline! The fans were solidly behind O'Haire now as he tried to stay on the attack to the manbeast known as Goldberg. Tenay built up the suspense as O'Haire surprisingly continued to be on the offensive attack to Goldberg, and lifted Goldberg up into a fireman's carry..but Goldberg broke free and slid down O'Haire's back. Goldberg shoved O'Haire off into the ropes...SUPERKICK right to the head. Flair gloated, called that the kick that ended Bret Hart's career. The crowd was roaring with boos as Goldberg measured up O'Haire in the corner...O'Haire staggered to his feet...SPEAR to O'Haire! Goldberg pulled O'Haire to his feet by his hair, lifted him up...JACKHAMMER. One, Two, Three! Goldberg becomes the third man in the fourway, leaving one spot left! WINNER - Goldberg by pinfall elimination (71/76/62) Ric Flair entered the ring and congratulated Goldberg on his victory. They shook hands and Flair lifted Goldberg's arm up in victory as the two celebrated to end the show. As the show came to a close, Mike Tenay took the opportunity to once again hype up BATTLEBOWL this Thursday on Thunder. OVERALL - 73% Edited by Dubb, Jul 1 2011, 11:55 AM.
